Do you think people can just disappear?

Lots of missing cases with no explanation.

Aliens?
Assassinations?
Government coverups?
People needed for testing?

Very weird.

My DB went missing 15 years ago and there's been no trace of him since.

On the offchance he's reading this (long shot but you never know), I miss you and love you, Chips (not his real name obvs but he'll recognise it).

Fuckinellitsme · 30/01/2021 12:38

Flowers to everyone on this thread who has a missing loved one.

Pureandnotsimple · 30/01/2021 14:13

The case of Sneha Anne Philip is fascinating. She was last seen 10th September 2001, and while she didn't work in the WTC or have reason to be there, the timing of her disappearance has led to her being declared a victim of the attacks.

But who knows? She had marital and personal issues - it could be that she took the opportunity to disappear, or someone else 'made her disappear' at a very convenient time.

evouk · 30/01/2021 14:35

A lot of ppl that disappear do so because they want to, not all have been snatched!

@Rowenasemolina

16 year olds can and do live alone. Several in most schools, probably. I’ve had 16 year old pupils married with a baby. No one else’s business.
Yeah but most 16 year olds aren't living alone and supporting two siblings under 13 because their mother has disappeared. Of course the school would be interested if an 11/12/13 yo student was in that situation Confused

@notafanoftheman

Is it just me boggling at a head teacher randomly spilling the beans about witness protection? That sounds super unlikely and unprofessional to me.
I was thinking that too Shock
FoxgloveBee · 31/01/2021 09:29

No, there is always an explanation. We just don't always know.

My grandmother disappeared when my Dad was little and was never seen again (or so he thought).

When she died in her 80s in a different part of the world, we found out (one family member had kept her secret and never told anyone, even her children) and it turned out she had literally started again.

Noidea2114 · 31/01/2021 22:59

Regarding the area MM went missing it's to far from the seafront for a little child to walk.
But the actual area around that apartment is scrubland with lots of tunnels, holes in the ground.
After she went missing quite a number of local residents said it was too big an area for a child to be found.
Whether she was there accidentally or intentionally.

Bump

DerAlteMann · 23/08/2021 01:05

I knew of two guys who in the 1970s tried to cross Arabia on motorcycles. Never seen again.

DerAlteMann · 23/08/2021 01:11

Also in the old days of people having coal fires at home disposing of bodies would have been easier.

The history of crime is littered with murderers who discovered the hard way that a domestic coal fire is neither big enough nor hot enough to destroy an adult human body.

Bump

Why did an 8 month old zombie thread need a bump?!

Galassia · 23/08/2021 01:22

Quicksand may account for a tiny percentage of people disappearing.

I think it may have been an old black and white Tarzan show when I was a small child about someone disappearing and meeting their death in quicksand and I had nightmares about it!

DerAlteMann · 23/08/2021 01:25

Why did an 8 month old zombie thread need a bump?!

To enliven an otherwise boring Sunday night! I'm glad they did.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 23/08/2021 02:08

My friends dad went missing when she was young. Can't remember how long it was but around 8 years before they heard from him.

My nana always spoke about her great gran who's 4 year old went missing back in the days of outside toilets. She went out to the toilet before dinner and was never seen again

7thSojourn · 23/08/2021 02:19

My Dad disappeared 20 odd years ago. I was the last person to see him. He left my house to go home as he had a hospital appointment the next day, he never showed up at the hospital, and from all accounts never made it home the night he left my house. and was never seen again, not by friends, family or anyone else who knew him, No trace, like he never existed.

Gothichouse40 · 23/08/2021 02:42

This is the second thread on missing people, is this a journalist by any chance?

1forAll74 · 23/08/2021 03:43

I once read, that several hundred people go missing in the UK every year. Most are never traced, except perhaps people who have been murdered, and have the police fully involved with their cases.

RevolvingPivot · 23/08/2021 09:09

@sanityisamyth

Because I find the posts interesting and clearly others do too 🤔
