@WaxOnFeckOff I love seeing your posts on here and always find myself nodding to them, and this is one is the best of all Grin Random assortment of different leftovers is food of the gods!

WaxOnFeckOff · 29/01/2021 12:06

Aww shucks @cheeseandworcestershireontoast, that's made my day Smile

Leftovers are indeed the best, another favourite is chopping up all the random bits of cold meat and chorizo and chicken etc and bunging it in pasta sauce - delicious! I've lazily recently started to buy bags of frozen chopped mushrooms and onions and peppers etc as it's not so easy to just pop out to the shops nowadays, it means that there are always things to add to leftovers to create something that you hadn't planned.

@praecantator

Why the fuck should I stuff my family full of carbs, the country is groaning under clinically obese folk as it is. Hence there's no need to add a 'carby' dish to another in one meal. (Hate the word 'meal' but needs must). Unless tomatoes are ripe, they are pointless balls of sour water thus unedible. Olive oil should be the best one can afford, especially in salads, etc., Makes the dish. Or breaks it if nasty rancid stuff. I am clearly a wankery apologist and unashamed for it. Ha.
That is another one! You can't just eat carbs, you have to 'stuff yourself full' of them. Some Mumsnetters ascribe so much value and judgement to food, it entertains me no end.
ThePricklySheep · 29/01/2021 12:11

Extra carbs are more for variety. They don’t have to be adding to the carb total. I mean, if you have garlic bread with your pizza, you’ll probably eat less pizza.
The horror around double carbs seems a bit excessive.

@WaxOnFeckOff
Sounds yum Smile

No huge salad though??Wink

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 29/01/2021 12:17

in the days before my gastric band 1 person, now I can only eat the small crust at the end if that.

Me too.Grin The horror of carbs!
Although it reminds me of my mum who used to talk in a disdainful and superior tone about people loading their trollies with crisps, sweets and nuts at xmas when she was shopping. As a household we ate all of those things but she had bought them in separate trips and not overloaded her trolley so obviously that made them healthier Grin

My DD would live off carbs given half the chance. However she is such a slow eater, we joke that the food has gone off by the time shes finished dinner. I'd never describe it as stuffing herself.

Oh my dear, salad isn't in season is it? Must ask cook.... :o

praecantator · 29/01/2021 12:41

Chef has announced that spinach is very much in season though, could be happily substituted for summery leafy things.
Grin

Ah that's good then, big mumsnet salad it is! Hurrah!
praecantator · 29/01/2021 12:45

Can feed multitudes, akin MN chicken and by the looks of it, MN garlic bread.
Marvellous stuff!

merrymouse · 29/01/2021 12:45

Maximum 4.

Realistically if fewer people are eating, the remaining garlic bread is still eaten.

merrymouse · 29/01/2021 12:47

Really everyone is going to have to weigh their pasta portions before the carbs debate can be settled...

HeronLanyon · 29/01/2021 15:17

I eat 250 gms of tortiglioni myself about once a fortnight. Baked with a lot of garlic tomato and mozzarella. On my own. I call it ‘massive pasta’.
I eat a little less weight spaghetti around once a week. Lots of Tom black olive and garlic.

It is exactly what I want and need and I’m hungry for it.
Not obese. Very much not obese.
No garlic bread with this ever.
In fact I may have a ‘massive pasta’ tonight - sounds perfect.

Slow eaters tend not to be fat.

Sceptre86 · 29/01/2021 15:40

We make one garlic baguette for the four of us, that is 2 adults and 2 children.

Deathraystare · 29/01/2021 15:44

1! Actually I try not to eat them as they give me gip.

LaurieFairyCake · 29/01/2021 15:59

People who 'can't' eat a whole ONE slice of garlic bread really ought to fucking try Hmm

I've had bariatric surgery, had 85% of my stomach removed and I can STILL eat a slice of garlic bread (just the one mind)

Yes, I've just updated my trolly for my supermarket order for the 3 adults in the house this week.

1 chicken
1 garlic bread
Big bag of spinach

That should cover us for the week surely?

If we get really hungry there is about 250g of pasta in a bag, that will do a couple of days.

praecantator · 29/01/2021 16:43

As long as you don't serve the pasta with... wait for it.... garlic bread! Or the carb-police ( here represented by your humble servant, clearly Grin ) will report you. To somebody.

That's way too much food, you'll all be obese if you eat everything on that list. Shock Try reducing your portion sizes, that much food should easily last you 2 weeks. Wink

ElizaLaLa · 29/01/2021 16:54

Reduce portion sizes and substitute a few meals for lentils 👍

WaxOnFeckOff · 29/01/2021 18:24

:o Probably also too much meat, no-one needs more than a thumb sized piece of protein a day - oh wait is that a thumb sized piece of ginger? I'm too confused and I need to finalise my order and DH has asked me to add soup! greedy bastard Confused

ElizaLaLa · 29/01/2021 18:33

He mustn't have soup. Soup isn't a meal and snacks are a no-no, unless for a 6'5" strapping rugby playing son.
