Garlic bread scrimpage....

Is it a full moon?

HeronLanyon · 29/01/2021 04:46

Well a hummus thread came close to being a scrummage the other day. We managed to ‘keep it classy’.
Btw GADDay was about to pull you up in peak mn style on your spag (not the type some of you have a side of gb with) but then realised what a delight your ‘scrimpage’ was.

@HeronLanyon

👌🤣👌

GrumpyHoonMain · 29/01/2021 04:51

Depends what we’re eating it with. If it’s with pasta then 1 will feed 3 with slices leftover. If it’s with soup then even two baguettes might not always be enough

maddiemookins16mum · 29/01/2021 05:02

How big are the baguettes that are feeding whole families with some slices left over?

It’s just the asda smart price ones. The portion of 3 slices is a lot when we eat pasta as our pasta sauces tend to be loaded with veg and protein and so fill us up. Can barely manage 1-2 slices sonetimes. So we always have a couple of slices left.
IHaveBrilloHair · 29/01/2021 05:36

Loaded with veg and protein sounds so wanky!

It’s meant to. The poster wanted you to know it’s not just any pasta sauce, it’s a Mumsnet pasta sauce!
IHaveBrilloHair · 29/01/2021 06:34

Ah, of courseGrin
Bloody wanky wanksters.

BlackDogBlues · 29/01/2021 08:17

Wanky pasta sauce....yum. You’d need the extra crunch.

Bluesheep8 · 29/01/2021 08:53

it’s not justanypasta sauce, it’s a Mumsnet pasta sauce!

Grin brilliant!

LagneyandCasey · 29/01/2021 08:53

Wanky pasta sauce doesn't sound very appetising Grin

ElizaLaLa · 29/01/2021 09:14

Half a baguette each in my house.

And all that too many carbs nonsense, does no-one ever triple carb?? Lasagna, chips & garlic bread anyone?

ElizaLaLa · 29/01/2021 09:16

We do do a bastardised pan con tomato though, had it in a fab little place in Barcelona; slice of sourdough, toasted, rubbed with garlic and then rubbed with ripest tomato one could find. Perfect with jamon serrano and a glass of rosado.

Now this sounds wanky.

Only Mumsnet could turn a basic Spanish breakfast into three lines of wankiness.

I make not at all bastardised pan con tomate all the time, usually when I have some stale ciabatta style bread and past their best tomatoes that need using.

cheeseandworcestershireontoast · 29/01/2021 09:37

@BarbaraofSeville completely agree, pan con tomate was mine and DP’s ultimate ‘we’re skint, wtf shall we eat?’ meal when we were living in Spain Grin Delicious but hardly fine dining Grin

praecantator · 29/01/2021 09:42

@BarbaraofSeville and @ElizaLaLa

Wanky food is the only kind worth eating [gavel]

Now the ubiquitous beans on toast I find so fucking boring, pointless, revolting and eminently unedible that have placed it to the shitty end of the scale on 'wanky things could one do to a slice of bread'.
Bastardised pan con tomato sits firmly in the middle. Hmm

Wanky enough for you?

HeadNorth · 29/01/2021 10:23

It is not the food that is wanky it is the wank descriptions - always 'good' olive oil, 'ripest' tomato, 'fab little place' (never a cafe, heavens no!). That plus the 'I could never eat 2 carbs with a meal' brigade are classic Mumsnet - and why Iove it Grin

praecantator · 29/01/2021 10:39

Why the fuck should I stuff my family full of carbs, the country is groaning under clinically obese folk as it is.
Hence there's no need to add a 'carby' dish to another in one meal. (Hate the word 'meal' but needs must).
Unless tomatoes are ripe, they are pointless balls of sour water thus unedible.
Olive oil should be the best one can afford, especially in salads, etc., Makes the dish. Or breaks it if nasty rancid stuff.
I am clearly a wankery apologist and unashamed for it.
Ha.

BarbaraofSeville · 29/01/2021 10:53

Maybe you should go and sniff some jamon serrano con tomate with @ElizaLaLa, @praecantator. Sounds like you two would get on.

I'm perfectly capable of having some garlic bread with my spag bol without becoming clinically obese or 'stuffing myself full of carbs'. All part of a balanced diet.

Fizbosshoes · 29/01/2021 10:56

Our family loves carbs (we probably have no place on MN) but we're all well within healthy bmi.
As an aside I cant bear olive oil if not cooked in a sauce. Any sort of oil or dressing ruins a salad for me.

ElizaLaLa · 29/01/2021 10:59

You can have triple carbs without becoming obese 🙄

Just dont do it very often. That's the point. It's a treat.

BarbaraofSeville · 29/01/2021 11:08

Or you could just have a smaller portion of each carb.

Just because there's more than one type of carb on the plate, doesn't mean a person is eating more carbs than someone who sticks to one.

WaxOnFeckOff · 29/01/2021 11:33

I was using up leftovers yesterday - we had quiche, wedges, macaroni cheese and garlic bread (and broccoli and carrots and corn on the cob)

I think I win something? :o

Anyway as PP said, it was small portions of each as we all fancied a bit of everything rather than each having different meals

Spacecudet · 29/01/2021 11:38

2 adults and 3 DS, 13, 11 and a 6 year old. I would only eat 1 piece myself. It is always a side dish, so plenty of other things to eat with it.
