Update: Dinky cheese and onion rolls did not feed 10. They fed me.

Spudlet · 29/01/2021 12:46

@Squirrel26 They sound delicious 😋

DS is not in the mood for homeschooling today, so we did a shapes game then went for a bike ride to the shop for supplies, for some cake from the butchers / deli next door, and now we’re building Lego. he’d already partially dismantled the toilet before I even made it out of bed this morning....! I put a tiny splash of Baileys into my coffee at 11 though so 🤷‍♀️😂

Sunbird24 · 29/01/2021 12:48

My hay fever is driving me mad today. It’s not reacting to the antihistamine, and I can’t work out what’s even caused it

Frownette · 29/01/2021 12:49

Well Squirrel26 they were just asking to be eaten.

I'm a bit quicker than I thought, I finished my activities half hour ago whereas I thought I'd be finished 1.30pm. Lunch soon.

Frownette · 29/01/2021 12:52

Spudlet I remember someone on here saying that her colleague was always serene and happy at work. After colleague retired she confessed that she'd have a single Bailey's each morning before work. I think the poster said she never drank aside from that!

forgetthehousework · 29/01/2021 13:12

We've survived the fortnightly 'Supermarket Shop of Doom', it was quite busy and seemed to have a higher than usual number of people who obviously don't believe they breathe through their nose.
Now I just have to get everything put away. Before the plague struck we did a weekly shop and everything fitted nicely, but unfortunately the cupboard space has not increased in line with the amount we buy at one time.
Mind you, shopping half as many times is brilliant.

Squirrel26 · 29/01/2021 13:22

I listened to an episode of My Teenage Diary on radio 4 with Sara Pascoe where she said that when she was a student she had a phase of using Bailey’s instead of milk in her coffee. I think I might adopt that.

Well exactly, @Frownette. They weren’t going to keep.

EggyPegg · 29/01/2021 13:36

@Squirrel26, they sound lovely. I had a cheese and onion pasty as I drove home from work. Also as I drove home from work, someone rear-ended me as I was stationary at some lights. There is a small debt in my boot, just under the reg plate. He was very apologetic and has said to let him know how much it costs. Hoping it'll just knock out. No scratches or anything. DH was very concerned that I was okay. I'm fine. Mildly annoyed that now I need to sort it, but these things happen.

I spent some time looking at degree classification calculators at work this morning. I need to try to keep every module with an overall score of over 70 to achieve a 2:1. I should probably stop leaving my assignments to the last minute then.

Frownette · 29/01/2021 13:47

Eggy is over 70 not a first?

Nydj · 29/01/2021 13:50

Thread has been busy today!

I ran out of salad fir my lunch so had carrot and cucumber sticks with a dip of yogurt, sweet chilli sauce and peanut butter. I limited myself to one teaspoon of the peanut butter instead of half the jar which is what I really wanted.

The task I had put in my work calendar has not been done as other stuff kept intruding. this afternoon, I will try and do more of the stuff that was scheduled for this morning.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 29/01/2021 14:00

@nydj
It is always the case. At the end of every work day I make a list for the next and then stuff crops up of the 'urgent, I promised them now so could you' category.
DH started cooking.

If I have read the info correctly I may stop working in March 2025 without deductions. I sent an enquiery asking for clarification.

EggyPegg · 29/01/2021 14:02

Sadly not with the Open University. 85+ for a first with the OU.
My modules so far have been
75, 71 and 66.5.
The 75/71 don't count as they are first year modules but I look at them to see where my personal average is.
The 66.5 was last year and my final assignment was cancelled due to Covid so they averaged my score on previously submitted work. Had I been able to do that last one (with the heavier weighting), I think that I could have got it above 70. DH points out that I could have also stacked it, so it's if buts and maybes.

I got 60 in an assignment this year, and was very disappointed as that's the lowest I've ever got. However I got my mark back for the next one on that module yesterday, and I got 75. I went over the word limit so lost a couple of points there. The guidance said that it wasn't a strict word limit as it was recapping observations but that it was down to tutor discretion. Lesson learned. I've never been over or under the 10% before.

MissConductUS · 29/01/2021 14:12

Welcome, @pollyglot and @Peachee, and thanks for sharing your news!

Pollyglot, if it's hot where you are you much be in the southern hemisphere. Oz? NZ?

It was really cold here this morning, -12, so I cut short my run and returned home as my hands were getting numb, despite two layers of gloves. I also woke up in the middle of the night with a leg cramp, which is quite rare for me. I had to get up and walk around for a minute before it went away.

I had a nice televisit with my GP yesterday and we came to a consensus on how to adjust my BP meds. It's nice not having to travel to see her when something doesn't require a physical exam or blood draws,

I'm taking the afternoon off today. I'm still going to lose about two days of annual leave carried over from 2020. Oh well.

Prok, I have about 4.5 years left before I get my full government retirement benefits. I could start taking them now but at a much reduced monthly amount. It's tempting sometimes. Smile

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 29/01/2021 14:20

MissConduct Yes, it is tempting (I could even pay in to balance the reductions) and the I calm down again and continue.

Deathraystare · 29/01/2021 14:26

Got up feeling happy on the way to collecting some parcels. Was wearing my new M&S Mom jeans and a new top. A friend had asked me to pop into Wilcos to get a pan rack.

I bloomin' well rained and I had to walk from the parcel place to Wilcos as the road is one way so cannot bus back. I was absolutely soaked!

I got the rack, got a few things for me and as I was going out the bleep went so I went back in , took stuff out of my bag (it was the Ariel colour stain remover). As I got out the shop I realised I did not have the pan rack! The security guys outside were asking people to leave as they were doing an evacuation so I couldn't go back in.

I got home to check I really had not got it and no idea what I did with the receipt. It is only £3. I will just have to go another day that's all.

I had planned to go back but did not fancy it in the rain. Also I was busy unwrapping my parcels before I went to work. The idea was I would put my make up on during this time but I didn't. Luckily I had already drawn on some brows and popped a lipstick on. But no liner or mascara. Aaaaah!

Silkiechickscat · 29/01/2021 14:50

DS just did his maths exam Shock

EggyPegg · 29/01/2021 14:51

Excellent @Silkiechickscat!

This made me chuckle. Mumsnet has a shout out on my module.

EggyPegg · 29/01/2021 14:58

Well done @Spudlet on contacting your dentist. My childhood/teen dentist also has a lot to answer for. I'm sure that my teeth are in the state they are now due to heavy-handed and poorly done dental care. I had two root canals at 14. My current dentist was horrified when he looked at the x-rays. They hadn't been done properly so it was little wonder that pieces of those teeth kept breaking off. I've had to have them both removed now.
However this new dentist is wonderful and there's a lot to be said for being in the hands of a capable professional. We're now with a private practice. I have a lot of love for the NHS, but experience has shown me that standards are not as high in the dental part of it.
Have you gone private?

Spudlet · 29/01/2021 15:02

NHS - I’ve been going to this guy for a long time and he’s good. But missing my checkup last year due to lockdown 1 has let all the old fears build up again Blush I’m so scared it will end up as a root canal or something awful.

Frownette · 29/01/2021 15:28

Spudlet you will be fine. Well done for taking the first step and booking.

EggyPegg · 29/01/2021 15:30

Glad you've got a good one that you've built a relationship with. It sounds like he understands your fears do will be mindful of them.

MissConductUS · 29/01/2021 16:42

Well done, Spudlet. I have had a huge amount of dental work done in the last 10 years or so and it can be very anxiety-producing. My dentist and periodontist are really focused on pain management. They use a topical anesthetic gel to numb my gums before I get the novocaine jabs. If I want more novocaine during the procedure I just raise my right hand and they stop what they're doing and give it to me, then wait for it to kick in.

Discuss your concerns the very first thing when you sit down in the chair. Your dentist will accommodate you and they see this every day, so there will be no judgement.

OP posts:
Prokupatuscrakedatus · 29/01/2021 16:50

Spudlet You can do this!
My teeth are the product of a phobic DM (she had reasons) and the time when dentists still thought those historic pictures were great for decorating waiting rooms. After I took the plunge to have it all sorted out it became easier and easier.

MissConductUS · 29/01/2021 21:22

I got home early and found a kitchen that looked like a bomb had gone off. DS had made himself a pizza for lunch, despite the fact that we're having pizza for dinner. DS does not grok "clean as you cook".

He used the last of the dried oregano for his lunch pizza, so I went to the close, smaller supermarket, got more oregano, some ginger ale, and lemonade. I'll still do my big shop tomorrow.

I'm on the thread about the EU meltdown regarding their vaccine supply problems. According to the EU, the UK is now the great Satan and the US is the lesser Satan in this drama. As a Yank, I find the whole thing quite amusing.

Spudlet - if the tooth needed a root canal it would hurt all the time, and it would hurt a lot.

We had pancakes - real ones not vegan ones Grin for dinner with ham and egg then another one with nutella and a glass of cider.

The planned trip out this weekend for DH is a trip to Pets at Home to get more hay and renal cat food, that's the most exciting thing we have planned.
