There's a couple of birds singing outside my window. It's too dark to see them but they are very loud. Grin

Peachee · 29/01/2021 07:07

We’re about to have pancakes for breakfast for a change. Ds has a rash all over his body because of his jabs.
Up at 5.30.. I’m currently watching GMB for the 500th day in a row.
DP just had a little moan because DS (13 months) ‘accidentally’ kicked him in the balls whilst I was trying to show him the rash and he was trying to have a !!! lie in !!! X

pollyglot · 29/01/2021 07:11

It was too hot today to go out in to the garden, so we watched the America's Cup races on TV - Italy and the USA. How can any sailing boat do 53 knots?? That's like 100 km per hour! Hoping that the final will be UK and NZ. Brit DH will be happy as long as he sees the UK in the final, whatever the outcome. Ben Ainslie's team are a bunch of gents, and really good sports. There's something really exhilarating about these huge boats flying freely on the blue Pacific, though I'm not a sailor and don't know a tack from a grinder.

Frownette · 29/01/2021 07:11

Silkie are they melodic? Hope for your sake it's not gulls.

I am not a good tea strategist, what I should do after the first cup is refill the kettle and boil so when I next come downstairs for my second cup it takes minimal time to reboil.

Silkiechickscat · 29/01/2021 07:24

I can't see the birds but in the past we've had lots of greenfinch that sing and it sounded like one of them calling, one singing.

DS is just out giving the silkie their food and opening their coop.

EggyPegg · 29/01/2021 07:25

Welcome @pollyglot and @Peachee!

@Silkiechickscat, that sounds like an amazing place to stay! Puffins you say? We went to Reykjavik in January 2019 to see the Northern Lights. One thing that we saw on every menu board dotted around, was puffin 😱. We did not try it.

@HelenaJustina, book that half day for next week today! Smile and ignore the huffing and sighing about your cover.

@Frownette, there was a thread on here recently about re-boiling vs fresh water every time. I am firmly in the fresh camp. I'll wait longer as it's a better cup of tea.

Silkiechickscat · 29/01/2021 07:31

Eggy Poor puffins of Iceland. These are the Lundy puffins - its seasonal:

www.visitdevon.co.uk/northdevon/discover-north-devon/nature-in-north-devon/puffins-in-north-devon#:~:text=The%20puffins%20you%20see%20in,Jenny's%20Cove%20on%20the%20island.

Lundy means puffin in norse and at one stage they had their own currency with puffins on and stamps with puffins on. Think they may still do the stamps but the coins got them in lots of trouble with the crown.

pollyglot · 29/01/2021 07:33

Thank you, eggypeggy!
Loving these details of everyone's lives.
My coleus cuttings have taken root in a glass of water, and have turned the most glorious shade of rusty-reddish-brown. Plumbago cuttings have taken too. Yay!

Frownette · 29/01/2021 07:35

Eggy it's fresh vs expediency and I'm impatient :)

EggyPegg · 29/01/2021 07:35

. Great article, thanks. Also, I don't think it gets any cuter than 'pufflings'.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 29/01/2021 07:50

I was woken by birdsong at 6, too. Definitely no gulls, those are down by the canal en masse (no tourists, no easy food)

soddingkitten · 29/01/2021 07:56

It is wet and wild outside, wind still rattling down the chimney. It’s too wet for a walk and I’m working from home today, so I’ve had a rebellious lie-in. I will be at my desk for 9am, but only just. Smile

Sodding and I just had a lovely morning cuddle. The day is off to a good start.

Frownette · 29/01/2021 08:20

Soddingkitten does appear to like cuddles.

I ordered a box for £10 incl p&p, I chose shea butter soap, peel mask, health gummies, hand sanitiser, face wash and dry shampoo. Looking forward to its arrival.

Is its it's when it's possession? My grammar is slipping Blush. Off to read about the Lundy puffins now silkie

soddingkitten · 29/01/2021 08:49

He goes through phases Frownette. The last couple of days have been lovely, but he’ll be back to the “urgh! Geroff! Too much!” grumble grumble phase soon. We’ve noticed he has a special complaining miaow when he wants to be put down or is cross about being picked up.

Sunbird24 · 29/01/2021 08:55

Its is only it’s when it’s it is Frownette 😂

DFC and his sister went back to their real mum, I only had them for 6 months while she dealt with a personal tragedy. I did miss them but was glad for her and them too

Spudlet · 29/01/2021 08:59

I’ve just been very brave and booked myself into the dentist. I’ve been having a bit of a problem with one of my teeth and ignoring it for ages in the hope it would go away, as I’m frightened of the dentist at the best of times, never mind during a pandemic. I burst into tears on the phone, poor receptionist having to deal with that before 9am Blush My childhood dentist had a lot to answer for - DSis and I are both scared of dentists thanks to his lack of treatment and stinginess with the anaesthesia.

Hoping it will be a simple enough matter to sort out and it won’t need anything too drastic. Im bricking it, frankly.

Frownette · 29/01/2021 09:20

Oh that's good Spudlet. Did you manage to get the correct coffee in the end?

@Sunbird24 that's nicer than I thought, I just assumed cats were from a cat rescue. How lovely they're back with their catmum and she's in a better place :)

I don't normally buy processed stuff but have a bag of diced root vegetables with pearl barley for lunch, you just add stock. I was at the till and the shop assistant asked if I wanted the discount stuff on a trolley so I took a glance and picked it up (17p).

Then he asked if I wanted the lovely fresh bread (20p) so I said "oh alright then" and picked it up. He's good at clearing the discount trolley.

Champagneforeveryone · 29/01/2021 10:14

Fear not kind people of this thread, DH has returned from the opticians. His looking (reading) glasses need upgrading, but his seeing (driving) glasses don't.

We are now able to embark on the purchase of the water filter with open hearts Grin

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 29/01/2021 10:42

My boss sent en e-mail round to remind us to log our wishes for vacation time into the calendar. As I am still waiting for my foot OP (now tentatively scheduled for the 3rd March) and bc. of plague nothing I could possibly want days off for is happening. So what am I supposed to do? There are 20 days = 4 weeks to dispose off.

Squirrel26 · 29/01/2021 10:43

I’m eating M&S ‘handcrafted dinky cheese and onion rolls’. The box says it serves 10. I can tell you right now it isn’t going to.

Frownette · 29/01/2021 10:55

I need to get dressed shortly, phone doctor, then head into the centre. The weather sounds bad out.

So England may come out of lockdown 8 March? I'm dying to stay at one of my best friend's, we're stocking up on chocolate for when that's permitted so we can have tea and a good bitch about everything :)

Silkiechickscat · 29/01/2021 11:02

Yesterday the art teacher said now how do you feel about not being back in school until after Easter and I thought oh no there's been another announcement already.

I said 8 March and she replied oh is that before Easter then. Grin I think 8 March is just the earliest possible date that schools may go back though infection rates and hospital rates are going down and getting lots of vaccines done so hopefully at least a few things will be eased.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 29/01/2021 11:34

I am reading up on when I may stop working and claim pension with or without reductions - it seems it is 2024 at the earliest. They send you an update to check for any missed times every two years.

We'll have a Japanese style of stir fry today.

And our local Woolworth has finally closed down.

Silkiechickscat · 29/01/2021 12:06

I've done tutor time, French and English with DS, well for him a bit and he started stomping so I let him go downstairs and read through rest of English really fast. He is supposed to also do a maths and a science exam today but think there's more chance he will leave them for rabbit to eat than do them. DD has offered to do them for him for £10 an exam. Hmm

Phoned to book orthodontist for DD and they gave me 3 appointments for her Shock Phoned the bank and they did my change of address. Phoned my bank about chargebacks I made last summer and after half an hour I got through to someone who was Shock we haven't dealt with this. Then I said I think you have filled in that form and she said she'ld call me back in 45 minutes. She did and they had filled in form and 1 out of 3 contested and they will reply to me in 10 days or so to say who has won. It's some of my AirAsia flights from last summer.

Few more e-mails re house sale.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 29/01/2021 12:10

silkie That sounds very productive.

Schools are officially on vacation for the week, and of course, DS takes full advantage of this.
