To add to your vocab.: Fenster is the German for window, whereas fensterputzen is the activity I so stubbornly avoid.

My contributions to doing taxes is to hand over a printed sheet to DH that contains the information already known to the tax people and a number of donation receipts.

I washed the silk flowers in my bedroom. They were very dusty so put them in the shower.
I then spent the afternoon googling for new kitchen bin. Couldn’t decide on one. I don’t have any enthusiasm for online shopping anymore.

Squirrel26 · 07/02/2021 19:12

I've ordered some light bulbs. I'm sure light bulbs are more complicated then they used to be.

Champagneforeveryone · 07/02/2021 19:33

@Squirrel26

I have put more salt and rinse aid in the dishwasher. I'm excited to try it out and see if it's performance is improved.

I also cleaned the kitchen floor TWICE. Public service announcement - if you are putting in a new kitchen floor, do not go for shiny white tiles. They are very high maintenance.

I should also add, do not go for dark tiles with white grout. Particularly if you have dogs, cook a lot and live in the country.

I own a designated toothbrush for cleaning the kitchen floor grout - this is not at all how I pictured being an adult would be Hmm

soddingkitten · 07/02/2021 19:49

We had white floor and wall tiles laid when we refurbished the bathroom in our last house. Never again! Whoever said it showed every eyelash was being exceptionally diplomatic. 😆 Thankfully we did the bathroom up to sell the house and moved soon afterwards. We have grey tiles and grey grout in our new bathroom, lesson learned.

sueelleker · 07/02/2021 19:56

I think if we tile the kitchen floor I'll get something with a paw-print pattern. (Two spaniels bring in a lot of muck)

Silkiechickscat · 07/02/2021 20:04

I e-mailed the stamp duty letter then DH went out to post it and then came to update me on all the village's news. Apparently a road is blocked off and the supermarket is shut due to a power cut. This will be causing a frenzy on the village Facebook.

DH put up a box I bought to catch the post so the rabbit can't eat it, DS was concerned that rabbit won't be happy about this. Grin

Now having dinner though it'll be quite basic as shop was closed, we have Sunday lunch roast dinner and meringue, ice cream and fruit for lunch though so don't need much. I'm about to have yet another coffee as I'm struggling to stay awake and I'm supposed to be writing some more letters re move tonight. I've been collecting invoices for capital gains tax today though difficult as originally we wouldn't have had to pay anything but then they retrospectively changed the rules which means I have to try and find invoices from 10 years ago due to a 2020 rule change.

I just rocked my baby to sleep. He's all sleepy and lovely. I'm contemplating how to maneuver him into his bed without waking him, so I can sneak downstairs for a herbal tea and a biscuit. I might read a bit of my book as a treat.

Lelophants · 07/02/2021 20:09

We had some really nice nectarines today. They were from Tesco - really ripe and juicy.

Lelophants · 07/02/2021 20:10

We are also thinking of redoing our shower room. What kind of tiles would you recommend? It's not a very big room.

lurch3r · 07/02/2021 20:19

We didn't get any snow. One of the bread rolls is gone from the roof of the garage block. I suspect a seagull or a gust of wind took it.

The bigger the tiles the better, I would say. Less grout and less cleaning

Sunbird24 · 07/02/2021 20:32

I’m wondering if it’s too late in the evening for a Nutella sandwich

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 07/02/2021 20:42

It is never to late for a Nutella sandwich. Unless you are my DD, she never eats after 8pm.

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 07/02/2021 21:17

Halfway through a FaceTime call with my mum in the UK, she lost power. So I'm watching the Puppy Bowl instead.

Nydj · 07/02/2021 21:30

@Therainisback

& I've obviously forgotten how to do typethroughs😕
I can help explain that - I mentioned that I struggled to get strikethroughs to work on my post in one of the earlier threads and that seems to have started some sort of contagion. Now, people who could do strikethroughs effortlessly before are suddenly struggling to do them successfully on these threads. I apologise.

Oh the sleepy and lovely baby sounds like bliss. I hope you sniffed the top of baby’s head for extra bliss!

If I may add black granite to the things one might regret having in one's kitchen?

Our bathroom tiles are dust bunny grey. It’s a forgiving shade in an area where you have the heaviest towel lint and human shedding. What colour towels are you going to have? If you plan on dark towels, go for a darker grey is my tip. Wink

Slate shows the dirt more than I expected.
GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 07/02/2021 22:16

If there’s any Nutella in the house I eat it with a spoon. So I only ever buy it - a small jar - if Gdcs will be visiting and wanting Nutella pancakes. So its been around a year now.🙁
I do admire the restraint of anyone who’ll have any left for sandwiches.

mathanxiety · 07/02/2021 22:37

It's pretty cold here @ZZTopGuitarSolo - I'm going out to start the car and drive it around pointlessly before the Superbowl starts to get the engine warmed up. DD3 made me buy a can of La Preferida zesty nacho cheese dip last week along with some chips (Aldi brand blue corn and Frontera hint o' lime). I don't want to touch the 'cheese', it looks so ghastly. We have 3/4 of a jar of salsa too and I'll stick to that, plus leftover chili.

Dcat started her 'feed me' campaign early this afternoon by knocking stuff off the TV stand and scratching the screen, proceeding to the kitchen where she flapped a cupboard door open and let it bang shut for a few minutes before I broke down and fed her. Last night around 11:30 she ducked under DD4's bed and wouldn't come out until I fed her. DD4 hates her in her room at night because she prowls around and knocks things off her dressing table.

This with bells on! Every water mark throughout the day, not to mention every single crumb/foodstuff that is put on said counter will show up in such a stark contrast to the counter top that it feels like I'm constantly wiping down our counters. strange that nobody else in this house notices except me
littleloopylou · 07/02/2021 23:25

All this talk of corn chips is making me wistful for home. I basically just don't eat them in the UK.

Made chicken piccata for dinner, impressing my au pair, along with a lot of mash to use up a load of potatoes that were definitely about to succumb to mold.

Feeling drowsily weary of the onslaught of work that will be coming in tomorrow

NotanotherboxofFrogs · 08/02/2021 00:28

My migraine finally cleared today so now I need to spend the next few days clearing up the mess everything is in as I did nothing for days so it's all waiting for me.

Snow on the hills outside the town since yesterday so expecting quite a fall over the next few days as when it is on the hills its a sure sign. When snow lies its waiting for more.

NotanotherboxofFrogs · 08/02/2021 00:46

I did make the baked feta and tomato pasta from a recipe on tiktok. It was lovely
