Just checked the weather in Chicago and it's -18C. Hoping our mid-west MNers are doing OK.

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 07/02/2021 16:09

You've got way more snow than us here in Maine MissConductUS.

I just checked the fridge and cupboards. We have chips, dips, wings, ribs, and... fruit?

Taswama · 07/02/2021 16:11

So are bookshops counted as 'essential' in Germany (or your state), Prok ? Or are you a lot less locked down than the UK?

I am just enjoying a cup of tea and chocolate biscuits after a 5 mile run this morning and a 4 mile walk this afternoon.

halfpasteleven · 07/02/2021 16:14

@Frownette don't! If he's worth it he will understand you were genuinely busy with work.
I too believe what's for you won't pass you.

MissConductUS · 07/02/2021 16:46

ZZtop, I've just done a check and we have loads of Late July brand thin tortilla chips and salsa, so I'll put those out during the game. Do you get that brand in Maine? They're a family favorite.

what's for you won't pass you.

Another Britishism for the folder!

@Taswama
Book shops have been open through all lockdowns. They are considered essential for mental health ('geistige Tankstellen').

forgetthehousework · 07/02/2021 16:58

Spent yesterday in a snit, being annoyed at everything for absolutely no reason, which was both upsetting and yet at the same time strangely satisfying, but today I feel back to normal, (lazy, eating too much and procrastinating Grin).

Squirrel26 · 07/02/2021 17:11

I have put more salt and rinse aid in the dishwasher. I'm excited to try it out and see if it's performance is improved.

I also cleaned the kitchen floor TWICE. Public service announcement - if you are putting in a new kitchen floor, do not go for shiny white tiles. They are very high maintenance.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 07/02/2021 17:18

@Spudlet, I’ve never knitted with circular needles before, but this is not knitted in the round, it’s just because there are so many stitches - 280.

It’s a ‘stashbuster’ scarf for a charity that sends them away to wherever warm things are needed.. Dead easy, a 4 mm needle, any DK, one row each colour, all garter stitch, knit about 7 inches/18 cm, no ends to sew in, just leave long ends, tie into tassels, trim to about 4 inches/10 cm.
As someone else once said, nice mindless knitting in front of the telly.

We had windy flurries of tiny snowflakes for most of the day. Dh and I went for a walk in it - quite enjoyable since hardly anyone else was out so no need to keep dodging those people who never seem to have heard of social distancing.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 07/02/2021 17:19

Squirrel I have white tiles in the bathroom and an overhead window, every speck of dust, corn of sand, eye brow hair is visible and screams at me to be removed. I ingnore them all until Saturday.

fadingfast · 07/02/2021 17:21

Do you mind me joining in? I have some very dull and mundane news. I am gradually working my way around the house, cleaning the inside of all the windows. I’m not really sure when I last did them probably never and I can honestly say it’s the highlight of my day. Such a satisfying job, especially when you see how dirty the water in the bucket it afterwards. I’ve got three windows left, but one of them is huge I’m saving that until last

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 07/02/2021 17:27

@fadingfast - Welcome, but tone it down. Your excitement over your dirty water might spur me into action. Smile

HildaTablet · 07/02/2021 17:33

We haven't had the Beast from the East yet, although it keeps being threatened (Home Counties here). It's very cold and windy but no snow.

Our veg box arrived again and lo! we now have two huge butternut squashes and three heads of celery - well, two now because I used one to make celery and blue cheese soup for tomorrow. Think we'll have to have some roast squash with dinner tonight and every meal for weeks

Re. circular knitting needles - Knitpick interchangeables are great. Sock-knitting is a very soothing lockdown activity, I find.

Sorry to hear you've been so unwell, DoctorTwo

Therainisback · 07/02/2021 18:02

I used my hair this morning. I normally have highlights done at the hairdressers. The result is passable but more yellow than I'd hoped, definitely not the same as the picture on the box.
I also veet-ed my legs while waiting for the hair dye. I was starting to look like a yeti.
We were promised "significant" snow - we've had a smattering. I am very disappointed. Weekend snow is the best kind.
I made omelettes for tea, but forgot to buy mushrooms.
On a positive note the battery in the scales had died so I couldn't weigh myself this morning, damn -not-

Therainisback · 07/02/2021 18:02

Dyed, not used. Grrr.

😂

Therainisback · 07/02/2021 18:04

& I've obviously forgotten how to do typethroughs😕

Sunbird24 · 07/02/2021 18:06

@Therainisback purple shampoo is your new friend...
No snow expected here, we’re too far west. I went to Sainsbury’s in my new leather jacket this afternoon, even put some eyeliner on for the occasion. That may be a bit much for here though!

HelenaJustina · 07/02/2021 18:07

I lost on the walk front but 3DC have played happily most of the day, a huge game of boarding school which has roamed all over the house and resulted in them actually doing some additional academic work! Disappointed in the 6 Nations results this afternoon, but happy that my COVID lateral flow was negative so I’m all good for work tomorrow.

MissConductUS · 07/02/2021 18:28

Welcome, @fadingfast, and thanks for sharing your suitably mundane and boring window cleaning news. One of my favorite words in the English language is defenestration. Be cautious that you do not accidentally self-defenestrate.

I'm actually getting some work done on the taxes while watching the snow come down through the likely very dirty window.

Sunbird24 - a bit of eyeliner news is acceptable here, as long as it's a discreet colour.

Taswama · 07/02/2021 18:32

What colour jacket did you go for in the end Sunbird ?

I’m afraid I had to look up the word ‘defenestrate’. Not danger of that when I’m having so much fun. If you like I could bore you further with my very detailed and thorough window cleaning method?
MissConductUS · 07/02/2021 18:42

If you like I could bore you further with my very detailed and thorough window cleaning method?

Please do! My primitive method involves spraying with Windex and wiping with paper towels kitchen roll.

I have just completed the income section of the tax software and confirmed that we have no Canadian pension income. Having never been to Canada I can say this with great confidence.

The word is from the French word for window, fenêtre.

I got a plain black jacket for now, but may add a red one in future... The eyeliner is just dark brown, although I do have a khaki one somewhere with gold flecks in, that is very flattering

I'm not sure if we get those but my favourites are Xochitl white corn chips. I just looked and DH bought A Different Brand faints

It's snowing here now. We've been predicted 3-5". This often turns out to mean 8-18" and yet somehow until the snow actually starts I manage to convince myself that we won't really get any.
