Sodding is back to wreaking havoc today, all part of his ‘closer to God’ expeditionary campaign. He knocked two houseplants off a high shelf, smashing the ceramic outer pots and sending soil and vermiculite half way across the room. In the time it took to get the broom from the kitchen the snapped aloe leaves had oozed all over the wooden floor, the soil stuck to it. He like butter wouldn’t melt, right? 🙄

@Spudlet - I've just finished watching The Dig. It was wonderful. It had courage, adventure, love, danger, a tiny bit of very discreet sex (in that way you Brits do so well), and a garden party with lemon drizzle cake. You and your DH will enjoy it immensely.

I've had a nap, done nothing further on the taxes, and am getting ready to Zoom with my lovely MIL and DD shortly. The men are doing BBQ ribs and chicken for dinner, with leftover mac & cheese.

@MissConductUS it really strikes me that you have the menfolk very well trained in the culinary department. Your son's future partner will thank you for it.

Silkiechickscat · 31/01/2021 22:08

The two girls are still missing so been trying to help find them.

DH changed the silkie chickens hay. DS still hasn't done his chemistry test.

Frownette · 31/01/2021 22:19

sodding is so beautiful you'd forgive him anything.

What two girls silkie? I have to read back, been out of sorts the last few days, not absorbing things properly. I was asked to advocate on this prison case but couldn't stop it, the police even told me I'd be arrested if I complained one more time, internally I was thinking 'go ahead punk, make my day' but I bit my lip. I'm all at sixes and sevens though, it comes to something when the police act illegally.

Silkiechickscat · 31/01/2021 22:27

It's a girl in DD's year at school and her friend, they've been missing 2 nights now. Sad

halfpasteleven · 31/01/2021 22:30

That sounds stressful @Frownette , I'm sorry you didn't get justice.

halfpasteleven · 31/01/2021 22:31

@Silkiechickscat how awful, I really hope they are found safe and well very soon.

MissConductUS · 31/01/2021 22:33

@dementedma - The last time we painted a bathroom we did sky blue and it's lovely. It was easy to find matching towels too.

@soddingkitten - I feel your pain. There was a time when Dboycat decided that the fireplace mantle was a catwalk. Lots of broken bits on the floor.

@Frownette - DH gets the credit. He has always been our primary cook and taught DS. DS learned from his example. I agree, his future partner will be pleased.

Thank you Frownette. He is pretty but he’s also naughty. He’s been eyeing the Roman blinds in the lounge from the top of the cat tower. I thought I’d pulled it far enough out to stop him launching himself at them, but he is hellbent on trying. I could tell he was thinking about attempting it from his body language. When I hissed to warn him off he back-chatted with the squirmy miaow he does when he wants to do something and we stop him. If he was a human teen it would be something like: “but I want to! Why? Why can’t I do it? You old fogeys spoil all my fun!” He does it when we stop him climbing in the dishwasher and the booze cupboard.

soddingkitten · 31/01/2021 22:35

Silkie, what a worry about the girls! How old are they?

Silkiechickscat · 31/01/2021 22:40

They are both in y10 so just turned 15 but they are both from villages and have gone to London not knowing anyone there or having been before. Hmm

soddingkitten · 31/01/2021 22:48

Their parents must be frantic. Perhaps they’ve made connections online, not that that would be any better. It is so cold too. 😞

I managed a mountain of ironing earlier watching a YouTube talk about neuroscience. The section on recent oxytocin research was interesting.

Silkiechickscat · 31/01/2021 23:16

Hopefully they just went for a day trip and came back to somewhere local but hard to know as last police trace of phone was Sat at 2.30pm in London and nothing since but they have been messaging friends since saying safe but not where. The one set of parents seem frantic (one DD knows), the other seem not that bothered.

Frownette · 31/01/2021 23:42

Seems like they're ok but still a huge worry, you just want to know they're ok.

I think I'll call the police again tomorrow but wash again very thoroughly beforehand unless they bung me in jail. I doubt they'd want to for kicking up a complaint about their negligence. By the time this is sorted person will be out of prison anyway, it was only 3 weeks.

littleloopylou · 31/01/2021 23:46

My neighbour had given me a car mount thing for my phone and I fitted it today before going to get my young one from her father.

I am not used to driving much, in the rain, at night, and it helped ease my stress.

Another great bonus is that I got two yellow stickered bouquets of narcissus for 19 p each, down from £4 each, and my daughter was over the moon with them when she came homeDaffodil

Sunbird24 · 01/02/2021 00:03

silkie I do hope they are home soon, knowing that someone has spoken to them won’t be the same for the parents as actually seeing for themselves that they’re safe and well.

I’m trying to decide whether buying a red leather jacket at the age of 43 will make me look like I’m having a mid-life crisis...

Or maybe a dark green one?

Welcome, @littleloopylou, and thanks for sharing your news. Those phone holders are very handy. Great score on the flowers. How old is your daughter?

We ended up with a foot of heavy, wet snow.

I shoveled my little heart out but still didn't manage to back my car out of its spot thanks to 'foot of snow' in the alley. I'm hoping they'll plough the alleys tonight, though this always results in a nice berm of compacted snow that is hard to shift, so I'll have to get up and out early to survey the situation. Best to get as much misery as possible out of the way before work even starts on Monday, so whatever poop hits the fan later in the day can be put in perspective Smile

HelenaJustina · 01/02/2021 06:36

@mathanxiety that’s the attitude Brew I find coffee helps shift the misery faster!

Frownette · 01/02/2021 06:42

They'd probably both suit you @Sunbird24.

Which colour would work best with your wardrobe?

I just woke up thinking I was being offered a cup of tea so said "yes please", or at least dreamt I did. I'm not sure where I thought I was.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 01/02/2021 06:59

Good morning, not more snow but -7C
I will take a shower and go to work, brr!

Frownette · 01/02/2021 07:02

Yikes, that IS cold. Think it must be around 1° here.

Wrap up warm!

soddingkitten · 01/02/2021 07:15

Sunbird - I prefer the styling of the green one, but it is really down to your body shape and wardrobe.

Frownette · 01/02/2021 07:36

@Sunbird24 when I was coming up to 30 I deliberated over buying a dress which was a couple of inches above the knee then I decided I didn't give a shoot and bought it anyway. I find you care a little less about what people deem to be appropriate as you get older.

I've had the weekend to think about the police/prison case and decided that as the timescale is only 3 days now and I've got evidence that the police lied, I should hold my horses. British idiom for wait.

I can't believe they had their minds made up from the outset that they were going to abuse a vulnerable disabled person no matter what anyone said or did. It was because they thought there were too many ambulance calls, waste of resources. I suppose they logged that as malicious but it was genuine.

I got the weather wrong, apparently it's 4°. Veritably Californian (well...almost).
