These are my hazelnut cupcakes from the baking kit. I'll sprinkle hazelnut powdered sugar on them when they are cool.

I had a nap earlier and DDog joined me mid way through. She looked mightily peeved that I'd snuck off to nap without her. So we had a snuggle and napped for a bit longer together.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 30/01/2021 20:53

@Missconductus - Look tasty - what is is "hazelnut powdered sugar", exactly, apart from calorific and nice?

Silkiechickscat · 30/01/2021 21:07

We've just had roast dinner which was really nice and a glass of coke.

Had cheese and crackers and chocolate cheesecake for lunch.

DH is playing the piano. He went to Pets at Home earlier and got hay for the chickens and rabbit and the cat's renal diet food.

Sunbird24 · 30/01/2021 21:18

I stripped my bed at lunchtime and washed all my bedding. Still waiting for the mattress topper to dry properly as I’m not making the bed again without it!

MissConductUS · 30/01/2021 21:41

Here they are with the sugar. It came with the kit @Prokupatuscrakedatus . It looks like regular sugar to me.

I had one. It was really good. 👍🏻

Welcome, @Jasperjosephjulian, and thanks for your canine news. I had a nap too, but neither of my Dcats could be arsed to join me.

We cleaned out the gerbils today.

Then we dismantled some kitchen cupboards to sell on eBay.

Then we had a Chinese takeaway delivered. Now I'm going to read a Cadfael novel in bed.

MissConductUS · 31/01/2021 00:13

Welcome, @HearMeSnore, and thanks for sharing your news.

We just had dinner, burgers on the grill and mac and cheese. I'm going to watch a very British period drama on Netflix called The Dig.

Silkiecat cried for her first breakfast at 2am which she had. Then at 4am she was crying a lot as she had eaten it all and no-one had put a second breakfast out. She now has a second breakfast and all is well, spoke to soon, she is howling again and DH is on his way down.

Silkiechickscat · 31/01/2021 04:52

DD is now also on her way down to see Silkiecat she is very high maintenance tonight.

The girls that are missing still not home and police think they are in London. Sad

DH just brought the cat to our bed but the cat looked very confused and ran off downstairs.

Spudlet · 31/01/2021 07:58

DH’s turn to lie in this morning, which is a bit unfortunate as I was awake since 4.30-ish for no particular reason. Hoping DS will let me snooze a bit on the sofa after breakfast. He is currently on the third course of breakfast, having demolished weetabix and fruit, a cracker with cheese, and now he’s having a slice of toast and jam...!

Long run day today, it looks like the ground is frozen which is good as it should deal with some of the mud. Hopefully it won’t have thawed when I get out there. I have to remember to take a face mask and hand sanitiser as I’m popping into the butchers on the way home for some sausages.

@MissConductUS DH wants to get Netflix again to watch that. We live about an hour away from Sutton Hoo, and DH lived in the village where Ralph Fiennes grew up for years. In the trailer for the film, his accent sounds exactly like a lot of the older people I know in that area, including DH’s dad - at least when he gets together with his brother. The two of them go full Suffolk, and DH picks up a twang as well Grin

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 31/01/2021 08:00

Good morning,
bright sunshine and -3C.
DH is making hummus and I need cotton wool 50g in a skin tone for a doll. I cannot bring myself to order this online and I don't need anything else.
So I have to wait.

HelenaJustina · 31/01/2021 08:00

@HearMeSnore love a bit of Ellis Peters, such comforting but beautiful fiction.

Frownette · 31/01/2021 08:38

Prok that's superb :)

I spent yesterday catching up with study (2 months before exams) and feel much better. Went for an early morning walk before sunrise which was nice albeit a little cold.

Frownette · 31/01/2021 08:41

Have you got mass today Helena? Think you've finally got time off, which is good.

Squirrel26 · 31/01/2021 09:40

Busy day coming up here. I need petrol, cash for the dog walker and dog food. Plus long walk so the dog is pleasant to live with this evening.

I remember my brother doing what seemed like an interminable project on Sutton Hoo at primary school, and our mum asking him questions about it in the car.

HelenaJustina · 31/01/2021 10:06

@Frownette indeed we did have Mass, we all went to actual Mass in our actual church this week which was nice. We were safely accommodating up to 45 adults (plus additional small children/babes in arms) before Lockdown 3.0, today there were 15 people including children and our priest. Just picking up some porridge oats before heading home for croissants.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 31/01/2021 10:35

helenajustina I can't wait for actual mass to resume again and I hope for a proper Easter celebration, but we'll see.

Apart from that, my chores are done and I can put my feet up and do what I enjoy. I lost to DD at Quirkle by a 30 point margin.

HelenaJustina · 31/01/2021 11:07

@Prokupatuscrakedatus I’m praying for ‘proper’ Easter celebrations this year. Last year didn’t feel right at all, I love the Easter triduum Masses best of all liturgies.

sproutsandparsnips · 31/01/2021 12:22

HelenaJustina we were 6 in church today Shock
Just about to go and start writing the assignment I have been putting off for 2 days. It is snowing but not sticking.

Sunbird24 · 31/01/2021 12:36

It’s snowing here too, but only lightly.
I’m out of bed, showered and dressed, and planning on washing all the towels. I’ve hung my Suncatcher Crystal in the window but there’s no sun so no rainbows yet!

MissConductUS · 31/01/2021 13:12

Good day, lovely people of the thread.

I'm pretty far into my Sunday routine. It was a tiny bit warmer this morning, about -9, so I ran and have showered, had breakfast and done a load of laundry. I saw a coyote on my run and from very close up too. I only see them a couple of times a year, at most. It was pitch dark and when my headlamp caught him I thought it was someone's dog who had gotten out, as it was right in front of a group of houses. It saw me and ran up someone's driveway, triggering their motion-activated floodlights. Not a dog, definitely a coyote. I thought about turning back but decided that if it was running away it wasn't really a threat. I circled back to the same spot about 10 minutes later, but no sign of the creature. I also saw a skunk but those are much more common.

My church's annual meeting today, so we'll have that instead of prayer services (mass, but no communion). It's to go over the 2020 and annual report and elect new vestry members. I'm a bit glad they haven't asked me to join the vestry as it can be a real time commitment. I served as a vestry member at two prior churches and was a church treasurer as well, so they may ask at some point. I've only been going to this church for about a year. We're still on Zoom for church and likely will be for a while.

@Spudlet - I watched the first half of The Dig last night and it was fabulous! Great cinematography, interesting characters and beautifully acted. I love that period too. My favorite British television series is Foyles War, which was also set during WWII. I found out about The Dig by reading this review:

Stream It Or Skip It: ‘The Dig’ on Netflix, a British Period Drama About Archaeology and Aching Hearts

I get a weekly email newsletter from decider.com with links to reviews of all the new offerings on Netflix and Amazon Prime and check it often before deciding if I want to stream something. It's a great resource.

Lots of the income tax paperwork has come in so I may have a go at putting it into the tax software I use. I have to determine if DD has to file for 2020 given her part-time job.

I've done the monthly accounts and refilled the pepper grinder.

MissConductUS · 31/01/2021 13:27

I also did a bit of on line shopping this morning. I received a catalog in the post yesterday from a company called the Victorian Trading Company. That sounded quite British, so I took a look at their website and ordered these:

The Bearer Of Love Tea Towels (Pair)

They're a bit expensive but are really cute and I need some new tea towels. I'll probably give them to DH for Valentine's Day. Grin
