Gorgeous snow and clever you to have made a snow cat, Prok.

Silkie have you remembers to notify any pension schemes from previous employment? That’s the one that I forgot to notify when we last moved and then a few years later, I suddenly remembered so they have now been notified and I will get my £100 a year!

I slept in a bit and feel good for that. DH is going to try and smash up a toilet that needs replacing. I am not looking forward to the noise and these things always take a lot longer than he thinks they will. I am grateful not to be the one who has to do any smashing of toilets.

HildaTablet · 30/01/2021 10:53

Gosh, I turn my back for a day or two and you're already three pages into a new thread Smile

I have lots of exceedingly dull news so will spare you most of it. Yesterday I drove DH to our local (very small, no actual wards and no A & E) hospital to get a routine blood test that his GP wanted, and he discovered only after I'd dropped him off that they've moved the blood clinic from where it's always been to a completely different building, but not mentioned this on the letter he got.

After he walked home we then drove to the local garden centre to buy bags of smokeless fuel for the fire. This is all far too exciting for this thread and is literally the most we've been out in one day for months.

(MissConduct , I keep meaning to say that DH also had an implant/bridge failure - it broke, shortly after the implant was completed, to the disgust of our dentist, who found out it was a manufacturing cock-up on the part of the dental lab. She Had Strong Words and made them re-do the metal-work for free - luckily as it was many £ - then she replaced it all at no charge. But DH had a lot more hassle as a consequence)

Spudlet · 30/01/2021 11:02

I love the snow cat, Prok!

Squirrel26 · 30/01/2021 11:10

Massive tractor came back the other way. Again it did not take out my garden wall (there is no pavement and the road sign on the verge is wonky because a van ran it over, so this is an actual possibility.) It had a massive trailer so perhaps it was delivering (massive) hay. There are about 3 horse yards up that road.

I walked the dog in pouring rain. Then we got home and immediately the rain stopped. Hmm

Silkiechickscat · 30/01/2021 11:11

Thanks Nydj I have indeed got pension schemes on there - I think 5 out of 7 left are pension schemes.

DH went back to sleep.

One of the girls in DDs year has gone missing with another girl, left in middle of the night.

Champagneforeveryone · 30/01/2021 11:17

I have started matched betting which has kept me amused for hours already. I even forgot to do my Duolingo Italian and was forced to purchase a streak freeze as a result Hmm
DH is expecting an Amazon delivery of joint tablets some time today.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 30/01/2021 11:30

@Champagneforeveryone
Have you been visited by the little green bundle of guilt?

DD started Korean and to be on the safe side she chose to revise Russian bc of the heart and streak problem.

Champagneforeveryone · 30/01/2021 11:39

Yes prok, to make it worse it was crying Grin

Spudlet · 30/01/2021 11:41

I had to delete the little green guilt bundle. It refused to understand my Italian accent and I just got too cross with it (I have a degree in Italian, I’m a bit rusty but nowhere near as bad as the green twit was making me out to be!) 😑

Spudlet · 30/01/2021 12:06

Although having said that, I just put the green guilt machine back on again. I’ve started learning German. I was born there but don’t speak any German at all.

DH did GCSE German but is no help - he informs that ‘Meine Deutsch ist kaput’ (apologies for the spelling, I’ve only done the first basic level Grin)

HelenaJustina · 30/01/2021 12:54

DC3 had a basketball to the head yesterday which broke their glasses. I managed to get an appointment in a different branch of the opticians we usually see which meant an hours round trip for a 9.15am 15 minute appointment. But DC3 is happy with me...

I got a free ice needle facial during my run which was unpleasant but I’m feeling virtuous now. Will feed everyone else lunch shortly (not for me, I’ve just had breakfast!) and then I think a family movie this afternoon. The DC have gone out in the sleet to look at the flood again easily pleasedit’s the highest they can remember it ever being.

I booked the dentist for 5 family members this week, the earliest appointment they could give me was 15 March!

Squirrel26 · 30/01/2021 13:27

I’m doing Latin on Duolingo, but it’s lack of explanation of the grammar is annoying me (I have a GCSE in Latin which I mainly got by memorising sections of Virgil). Plus I don’t think anyone from the Roman Empire ever said ‘I live in New York, not in San Francisco’. Hmm

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 30/01/2021 13:46

@spudlet
Go for it - German is much easier than you think.
DD disagrees with the Russian pronunciation. Her teachers were from Omsk and St. Petersburg.

@Squirrel26
Yes, but then it is aimed at Americans and Colonia claudia ara agrippinensium is probably not well known there as a place name. I, too, have an ancient Latinum - a prerequiste for studying languages at uni (last century) - and DB aced A-Level Latin and went on to become a geriatric nurse Grin

Champagneforeveryone · 30/01/2021 14:11

One of my most memorable Italian phrases was "Your snake has eaten my cakes"

Should I be in Italy and this eventuality occurs I will be the one you all come to Wink

Talking of easily pleased helenajustina, DS was fascinated by a frozen glass bottle of milk from the milkman. This ranged from calling me in to demonstrate, then texting a photo to DH and DM Grin

‘Il tuo serpente ha mangiato le mie torte!’ ?

Welcome, @Bassarid, @chichichibaby and @nearlynermal and thanks for sharing your news!

Prok, your snow cat is adorable and does look a bit like ALF.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ALF_(character)

I loved that show and had no idea it made it to the UK. It used to run on Monday nights.

@HildaTablet - Thanks, it's nice to know that I'm not alone. I've broken a bridge and several crowns. In my most recent dental diaster it was the titanium alloy screw inserted into my upper jaw that broke. It's so rare that all of the dentists in the office gathered around to marvel at the radiograph.

It's still really cold here, about -12 first thing now -8. I wore two pairs of sweatpants, two pairs of winter sock, two shirts and a jacket and I managed to run for 33 minutes. It supposed to snow from Sunday night to all day Monday. We might get a foot of snow for the second time this winter.

I've already been to the supermarket. I might make one of the baking kits I got for Christmas today.

I’ve just completed and paid my tax return. £6k less in the bank account now... 😔

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 30/01/2021 14:34

Miss
Alf made it to Germany, too.
I remember my DSis watching it in the afternoon. The series still got fans and merch.

halfpasteleven · 30/01/2021 15:33

Alf was great!
I remember enjoying German in school - it was my best subject.. don't think I remember much now sadly..
DP and DS and DD are out for a walk so I'm contemplating a nap and some chocolate first.

sueelleker · 30/01/2021 15:53

The dogs woke me at 2am, scratching at the dog flap. We get foxes taking a shortcut through the back garden at night (which is why we lock the flap, as otherwise the dogs rush out swearing at them) so I presume that's what they heard. Let them out to double-check, then closed the door again.

Spudlet · 30/01/2021 16:19

Brrrr, there’s an east wind here. It’s the sort of wind that reminds you that there’s not an awful lot between us and the Urals 🥶

We have survived our extremely bracing walk and now have the fire lit and are having a cup of tea and a ginger biscuit, while DS watches Kiki’s Delivery Service. I’d have preferred Howl’s Moving Castle, but DS would not be persuaded.

Squirrel26 · 30/01/2021 19:16

I'm watching Would I Lie To You because the dog has chewed on the Prime remote (again! FFS) so my options are limited.

HelenaJustina · 30/01/2021 19:39

We went for a family walk after lunch and hoovering, then warmed up with a family viewing of Shrek. Such a good one, even 13yr old DC was reluctantly entertained.
We’ve had fajitas for tea and I’m bracing myself to make a lasagna for tomorrow, it’s so much nicer the next day.

DH and I are debating using some of the Cointreau bought for New Years cocktails. I fancy a White Lady (because we have the necessary to make it!)

HelenaJustina · 30/01/2021 19:41

@Champagneforeveryone frozen milk in a bottle would be hugely exciting round here! We had to stop using the milkman a few years ago as he was arriving later and later. It’s no good my milk being delivered after we’ve all left for work and school, it’s not best after 6 hours on a south-facing doorstep!
