Anyone doing this?

Got all optimistic last night and booked a week in Italy in July. Am I a fool?

I have in mid June. I'm expecting we might need private Covid tests before we fly. A friend had to do this to holiday before Christmas at it was £150 per person 😬 they had to use the company that the travel company suggested. Which makes it very expensive. I'm
Not sure on the quarantine situation after as already taking Ds out of school for a week for the holiday ( we are keyworkers)

poorbuthappy · 22/01/2021 10:10

We will be booking a UK holiday shortly. Taking the caravan. If it gets cancelled we will just move it until we can go!

rosie1959 · 22/01/2021 10:13

I have a rebooked UK holiday for the end of May quite honestly I expect that to be cancelled

theotherfossilsister · 22/01/2021 10:16

We just booked a week in the Hebrides. We did check all Covid cancellation policies a d precautions taken by accommodation first though. The fact we can drive there makes me feel better.

My parents live in France and I would love to see them but my dad has can we do is ecv and so far no offer of vaccine.

theotherfossilsister · 22/01/2021 10:17

Sorry that should say, my dad has cancer so is ecv.

CountessFrog · 22/01/2021 10:18

We have France booked for august. It’s

pumpkinpie01 · 22/01/2021 10:18

I would love to book a holiday for this Summer but just don't feel confident doing so. I'm thinking Turkey in early October could be more realistic will still be hot then too.

CountessFrog · 22/01/2021 10:19

...frustrating not knowing if exams are going ahead, as we’d like to do something at whit

purpledagger · 22/01/2021 10:20

We had a holiday booked for Summer 2020, which we rolled over to Easter 2021, but have now pushed it back to early summer this year.

I don't mind having to take a covid test, in theory, but the cost of a test on both legs of the journey for a family of 4 will make it too expensive for it to be worth it.

user1493413286 · 22/01/2021 10:20

We’ve got a U.K. holiday booked but I don’t think we’ll take the chance with a holiday abroad. DH can’t work from home so if we have to isolate after that would cause issues

SallyCinnamon3009 · 22/01/2021 10:22

Turkey booked for May which was rescheduled from last May . Then booked a "back up" holiday to Turkey in October as well.

I'm 50/50 about whether Mays will happen but I'll either reschedule till May 2022 or later in 2021 nearer the time. Trying to get as many in as possible before DS2 turns 2 as at the moment we can get both DS for free. Will have to start paying for one of them eventually which will mean a change in holiday type.

BasinHaircut · 22/01/2021 10:22

We got excited late last year and booked something for April. Needed something to look forward to.

I’m fairly sure that’s not happening now though.

I’m not booking anything else other than campsites in England, not too far from home.

ShanghaiDiva · 22/01/2021 10:22

Self catering in Cornwall in July.
Can cancel for free up to 10 days before.

AethelsWhiteGoose · 22/01/2021 10:22

Would love to visit our family in Europe this summer but so far nothing booked.

quarentini · 22/01/2021 10:24

We are going to book a uk break but last minute.
We are not planning on going abroad till 2023

shinynewapple2021 · 22/01/2021 10:24

Where in Italy are you planning to go @GetTheDebtGoneIn2021 ?

We have a holiday to Lake Garda booked for the beginning of June. We had to rebook our airline tickets from last September and just booked the apartment etc at the same time. I don't think I would have booked from scratch this year , although even at the time we booked last September we didn't expect things to be this bad. Cases in Italy were really low at the time .

I have no notion either way whether we'll be able to travel .

usernotfound0000 · 22/01/2021 10:31

No Sad I want to be optimistic but struggling to find any at the moment. We do have a UK break booked for May and a European break booked for September but starting to feel like they won't happen. I won't book anything for the summer until things become clearer. We couldn't justify the cost of private tests for 4 of us there and back and potentially another to be released from quarantine.

Happyrascalsmummy · 22/01/2021 10:32

I've got a trip to Las Vegas booked for August but am fully prepared for it to be pushed back to a later date. Booked with BA who seem to offer good covid protection, I can change the date or destination fee free if I want to.

peak2021 · 22/01/2021 10:36

I have booked the time off work, nothing else. Not committed a penny, though have ideas.

mindutopia · 22/01/2021 10:42

We have a week booked for may half term, but it's in the UK and a second home (not ours, family member). So if there are restrictions in place and we can't go, no big deal, because we won't lose any money and it will just be empty anyway.

I am going to book a UK holiday for August shortly. If we can't go and lose the money, I'm willing to take a chance on it. I personally wouldn't be booking any foreign travel at the moment as I want us vaccinated before that and I don't think that will happen very soon. We did look at a European break for October half term, but I just can't really justify doing it right now when it's hard to know if anything will be open again.

littlemisslozza · 22/01/2021 10:48

Have booked a UK holiday in July, with covid protection - refundable/moveable before certain dates.

Can't wait to go abroad again but there are five of us in the family, none of whom qualify for vaccination for ages and the children not at all. I imagine it's likely that they'll want tests which sound expensive. I would be surprised if we were able to get abroad in our situation for quite a while. Not sure if I'm being pessimistic or realistic!

jiggetyjig · 22/01/2021 10:49

Nothing booked yet.
We had 2 holidays cancelled and refunded last year(Lanzarote in March and Boston/New England in October).
Won't be rebooking for USA until we know for certain that we will be allowed into the country with an ESTA.
Once we know about Covid figures in a couple of months we will book somewhere in the UK for September.

Theotherrudolph · 22/01/2021 11:32

We aren’t booking anything until the last minute- but we would only be going on U.K. holidays to visit family or stay at the family second home anyway so they don’t need booking yet. I do also have a couple of U.K. short break/weekend away ideas but we won’t book until we know more about what facilities and attractions are likely to be open. We probably wouldn’t have gone fully abroad anyway but I did have a plan for Jersey which I’ve just decided to leave for next year.

easterattheready · 22/01/2021 11:53

Does anyone know how they are doing tests to fly now? I think everyone has to test first now ? Is it a week before or are they doing those rapid ones ?

easterattheready · 22/01/2021 11:55

I'm dreading a bit test bill if we are able to go abroad. Haven't been on holiday since before my oldest was born. He will be coming up 5 and this was delayed from last year.
