Bought toddler DS some new waterproof dungarees. Good company.

Everytime he has worn them they have ridden up so we've ended up with wet legs and feet. We.comtacted the company who apologised and said in future they are going to put stirrups on them. They offered us a discount on a future purchase. DH and I disagree:

Person 1 - chalk it up to experience, they've done the best they can

Person 2 - they arent fit for purpose, they should be offering a replacement or a refund.

So - we agreed to put it to MN...

@OhToBeASeahorse - nothing is designed for water over wellies though unless its an all in one combo with sealed shoes.

I work outdoors, in outdoor gear - that's how it works. Add garters if you want to the outside but it's not the case of elasticated trousers going on the outside of wellies - makes no sense at all.

OhToBeASeahorse · 20/01/2021 20:35

I'm sorry, you arent correct. I could send you pictures if you like?

MonkeyMooning · 20/01/2021 20:37

@OhToBeASeahorse I know i am correct - I have worked outdoors, in all weather, I know what works and what doesn't to keep feet dry, and what doesn't.

But it's your choice and you are welcome to keep your kid with wet feet.

Fwiw, if they're well designed, they should stay in place just with the elasticated ankles. I got DS a puddle suit that he wore for several winters (it was huge on him the first year, then the perfect fit, then a tad short Grin). It had both elasticated ankles and detachable stirrups, and stayed in place even without the stirrups.

OhToBeASeahorse · 20/01/2021 20:39

god alive. I'm not going to engage.

@notangelinajolie they've offered me a refund on another purchase.

Sorry discount, not refund

OhToBeASeahorse · 20/01/2021 20:40

@AnotherEmma was that being worn inside or out of wellies?

OP posts:
AnotherEmma · 20/01/2021 20:46

Outside the wellies obviously. You wouldn't put them inside because the water would get in.

We tuck trousers into socks (to stop them riding up inside the wellies), then put wellies on, then puddle suit / waterproof trousers over the wellies.

Obviously DS doesn't do a load of river wading in them or whatever adults need full on waterproofs for! But that does him just fine for heavy duty puddle jumping.

PaddingtonsSister · 20/01/2021 20:51

1 sew some elastic on

Fluffyhairforever · 20/01/2021 20:51

Not sure why you wouldn't avail of the consumer protections afforded to you?

OhToBeASeahorse · 20/01/2021 20:52

@AnotherEmma thanks. You best read @MonkeyMooning though. Apparently we are all wrong. Hmm

I don't understand how they are 'not fit for purpose' Confused

I have some waterproof trousers - they aren't for wading in, they are to keep the rain out. Obviously if I climb over a style or something that involves me lifting my leg, then they are higher up my leg when my leg is bent - basic maths really.

If these are long enough for your dc, and down by his ankles on the outside of his wellies, then surely even when they do rise up a bit (as you would expect) then they would still be on the outside of the welly, by your dc's calf / shin ?
I can't understand how his legs are getting wet Confused

After reading this thread I now realise how stupid I am for putting my toddlers puddlesuit cuffs inside her wellies... 🙈 how have I never realised this! Thanks OP 😂

OhToBeASeahorse · 20/01/2021 21:12

@peanacat I'm glad I could be of service!

DappledThings · 20/01/2021 21:29

Person 1. This isn't a defect, they just don't quite suit you. DS has waterproof trousers with stirrups and elasticated ankles. I've never used the stirrups but I do tuck them inside his socks and inside his wellies and never had an issue.

I'm interested to hear why you consider them a good company? You paid £30 for shit waterproofs.

OhToBeASeahorse · 20/01/2021 21:56

@smoothchange what I meant was I didnt have a fiver off amazon. I bought them from a company that supposedly specialises in outdoor gear for toddlers and children.

Person 1-it's impossible for anything to be 100% waterproof if it rides up and will only ride up on certain legs in certain positions/activities etc which the company can't control x

Enidblyton1 · 20/01/2021 22:24

I’d be person 1 - if I’d failed to research the product and ordered a pair without stirrups that’s not the company’s fault.
But some companies have a policy of refunding no matter what, so there’s no harm in asking for a full refund. I agree that spending £30 on a product that doesn’t do what you’d hoped is v annoying.

Next time get them from Lidl. Nowhere near £30. Around £10 I think. Best waterproof trousers with stirrups I ever had for my children. Indestructible. 1 pair lasted several children for a few years.
