Who do you agree with- DH or me?

Bought toddler DS some new waterproof dungarees. Good company.

Everytime he has worn them they have ridden up so we've ended up with wet legs and feet. We.comtacted the company who apologised and said in future they are going to put stirrups on them. They offered us a discount on a future purchase. DH and I disagree:

Person 1 - chalk it up to experience, they've done the best they can

Person 2 - they arent fit for purpose, they should be offering a replacement or a refund.

So - we agreed to put it to MN...

Person 1

Atalune · 20/01/2021 17:03

I’d ask for a refund then.

Sorry to hear about your mum- that sounds very stressful. Flowers

BombyliusMajor · 20/01/2021 17:07

I’m with person 1. Who has time for endless negotiations with clothing companies? Or sewing stirrups on, for that matter? Some clothes just don’t fit, and you can never keep toddlers clean and dry anyway.

  1. The older I’ve got the more I’m likely to complain. I would just say to the company I’d like my money back please they don’t meet their intended purpose.
TheOneLeggedJockey · 20/01/2021 17:32

This is one of those situations where...

Do you really need to put it to Mumsnet?

Does it matter if you and DH disagree?

If one of a partnership feels strongly about something, then that person just picks up the phone and deals with it.

I would be 1 in this situation, but if DH was 2, he’d just call up.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 20/01/2021 17:33

Hope you get a refund & can buy some that do the job properly!!

Sorry to hear about the baby's reflux & your mum!!

But sit down for 5 minutes & give both the kids a cuddle, it'll make it all seem less horrible!

Anon22 · 20/01/2021 17:42

Just buy some glove/mitten elastic clips to use as a detachable stirrup. Or johdpur clips which are designed for that purpose.

OhToBeASeahorse · 20/01/2021 18:21

@TheOneLeggedJockey apologies, I didnt realise there was a list of things that one should or shouldn't consult MN for. Thanks for steering me.

Person 1.

Unless the dungarees leak or something then they aren't "not fit for purpose". The style just isn't a good match for your ds, and that is an issue for you, really.

MustardMitt · 20/01/2021 18:27

Get DH to do the sewing if he thinks it’s ok. You just need a needle and thread and some thick elastic.

Same4Walls · 20/01/2021 18:30

Clearly the company thinks the dungarees are not fit for purpose otherwise they wouldn't be changing the design. As another poster said I highly doubt that the OP is the only one who has complained about them.

OhToBeASeahorse · 20/01/2021 19:17

No they said other people had said the same. I was a bit surprised at how cavalier they were

Do stirrups actually last if they're worn outside the wellies? I'd have thought they'd get wet and worn through pretty quickly from being constantly walked on - or am I missing something?

OhToBeASeahorse · 20/01/2021 19:31

@Tal45 our last pair did, really well - I expected them to go

@OfficerHops I had reservations but the one review was glowing (which is odd, given they have said about other people now) and I've seen other kids without stirrups so thought it should be ok. Lesson learnt though!

HeronLanyon · 20/01/2021 19:40

Person 1 and add your own stirrups. We’re all going through
Feet will be wet as water will run down inside the wellies
If they ride up.

HeronLanyon · 20/01/2021 19:41

Oops poor editing. Was going to say we’re all going through so much I’ve lost much ‘fight’ for demanding refunds etc - think company have replied properly.

OhToBeASeahorse · 20/01/2021 20:09

@HeronLanyon I think I'm a bit fed up of poor service. In the last week I've had a toy that was 59 quid for xmas break, a stool arrive that was marked (they gave me a discount), then horrendously wobbly (they have sent me new parts) then today they have arrived but they havent sent me all the bits. Then a wayfair delivery that they are claiming had arrived and it hasnt.

HeronLanyon · 20/01/2021 20:20

Oo er that is a bad run. Understand fully !!
Btw I wear ronhill runners. Some I bought recently had unexpected stirrups which I promptly cut off. If only I’d known of your troubles you could have two sets for your dh to see on !!!

MonkeyMooning · 20/01/2021 20:21

These were elasticated round the ankle

No, they are designed to go in the wellies...

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 20/01/2021 20:22

I'd want a refund

OhToBeASeahorse · 20/01/2021 20:27

@MonkeyMooning as somebody else has said if you tuck them in the water just runs in to the welly. And I'd have thought the company would have said that if it was the case.

OP posts:
OhToBeASeahorse · 20/01/2021 20:28

@HeronLanyon haha we should create a swaps thread!

OP posts:
ImnotCarolineHirons · 20/01/2021 20:28

I'd be person 2 allllll the way. Anyone making clothes for toddlers should know they'll be climbing up, over and into every bloody thing they can see, so should make clothes that work when legs are moving up over and into everything!

OhToBeASeahorse · 20/01/2021 20:31

I've just checked the website again. All pictures are worn outside wellies and the product detail says 'tightly elasticated cuffs to snugly fit outside wellies'
