Who do you agree with- DH or me?

Bought toddler DS some new waterproof dungarees. Good company.

Everytime he has worn them they have ridden up so we've ended up with wet legs and feet. We.comtacted the company who apologised and said in future they are going to put stirrups on them. They offered us a discount on a future purchase. DH and I disagree:

Person 1 - chalk it up to experience, they've done the best they can

Person 2 - they arent fit for purpose, they should be offering a replacement or a refund.

So - we agreed to put it to MN...

Person 2. A discount is useless. You're not going to buy from them again if the products are not fit for purpose. It woukd have been better to receive a redund or for them to send you a pair of their newly altered waterproofs.

They don't fit your child? How does that translate into not being fit for purpose as an entire product?

Atalune · 20/01/2021 15:54

Would you buy something different from them?

If they're designed to go over wellies, how would stirrups help?

OhToBeASeahorse · 20/01/2021 15:56

@user1174147897 they do fit him. If anything they are too baggy. But when he say climbs on something they ride up.

Person 2

OhToBeASeahorse · 20/01/2021 15:58

@raspberrysundaes because u put the stirrup over the welly.

@Atalune I try to support small businesses where I can so possibly but at the moment we are £28 poorer and have a completely useless product.

As is becoming clear, I'm person 2

OP posts:
titchy · 20/01/2021 15:59

I'd be asking for a replacement (with stirrups!) free of charge too. They have sold a product which isn't fit for purpose, and admitted it, so should replace or refund in full.

OhToBeASeahorse · 20/01/2021 16:00

@titchy that's how I feel.

I dont have a sewing machine but a friend can put some stirrups on for me. It's just the principle

Person 2 technically but it depends how much they were and if I felt they were a good company, had listened to me and if it wasn’t going to break the bank buying an alternative pair - so whilst Person 2 is right, I would probably be Person 1.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 20/01/2021 16:05

@raspberrysundaes

If they're designed to go over wellies, how would stirrups help?
Because the stirrups go under the sole of the wellies.
OhCaptain · 20/01/2021 16:06

Person 2 is right.

They're not fit for their intended purpose. Company acknowledges that they need to be improved. They should offer a refund or a replacement that actually works.

AnotherEmma · 20/01/2021 16:08

Why don't you ask them to refund 20% as a goodwill gesture? For the inconvenience of sewing stirrups on.

You'd be within your rights to return for a full refund though.

senua · 20/01/2021 16:08

I don't have a sewing machine
Surely you can manage a needle and thread?

BearSoFair · 20/01/2021 16:09

Person 2. You're unlikely to buy from them again to use the discount if the experience you've had of their product so far is it doesn't work as intended.

OhToBeASeahorse · 20/01/2021 16:11

@senua right now I have a newborn with reflux and a mother on a secure unit for mental health patients. I didnt expect to have to make half the garment I paid for.

SEE123 · 20/01/2021 16:13

Person 2 - keep my money but send me a pair with the design alteration you've agreed would be better

SimonJT · 20/01/2021 16:15

Person 1 and just sew some stirrups on, it won’t take anymore than 30 minutes if you and your husband are complete novices.

OhCaptain · 20/01/2021 16:16

OP shouldn't have to sew anything. It's a design flaw. Company should replace with a product that's usable.

sofiaaaaaa · 20/01/2021 16:19

I agree with #1.

The items are not faulty and are as described, unless the listing said they would include stirrups to begin with.

There’s a wide range of reasons why they ride up, including height. Doesn’t mean the item is faulty.

If the stirrups are such a must have, you should have checked before purchase and a only bought an item that included them.

Randomrebel · 20/01/2021 16:19

2

TreacleHart · 20/01/2021 16:19

Person 2 . I'd go back and request refund.

OhToBeASeahorse · 20/01/2021 16:24

Thanks everyone. It seemed the majority agreed with me so I've gone back to them. 30 quid is a lot to lose and with lockdown and my current situation I really do need a waterproof to be waterproof.

OP posts:
cheeseismydownfall · 20/01/2021 16:29

Person 2. The fact that the company has admitted that they will be changing the design in future demonstrates that there is a fundamental issue with the design of the product, and that you are not the only person to have complained. It is unfortunate for the company but they clearly didn't do adequate product testing while developing the design.
