A song that was written in 1974 just took my breath away, literally

I went out for a long walk and had Spotify making suggestions. This song came up, never heard it before, and it stopped me on my tracks. I had to slow down as I was crying. This song was written in 1974 and I am 50. How have I not come across this song before? The song by the way is Diamonds and Rust by Joan Baez. Has this happened to you and what was the song?

Colin Hay - I just don't think I'll ever get over you

It comes from a place that's far away
And when I'm done, I feel like talking
Without you here, there's less to say"

Loudon Wainwright - Homeless

"They say in the end, your good friends pull you through But everyone knows, my best friend was you."

So beautiful. Hibs are not a big club but they have the best song!

wishywashywoowoo70 · 19/01/2021 17:49

@notacooldad

I prefer Judas Priest's version if Diamonds and Rust. Joan Baez's voice is beautiful in this song though.
Me too. It's fabulous
Isisiris · 19/01/2021 17:50

Love diamonds and rust. Did she really write it about Bob Dylan?
Sundown by Gordon Lightfoot is one of mine. But I have many

maddiemookins16mum · 19/01/2021 17:52

Softly as you leave - Matt Monroe.
Had it at my mum’s funeral.
😢

MellowBird85 · 19/01/2021 17:52

Wish It Would Rain - Temptations. David Ruffin’s voice is incredible and the song epitomises raw heartbreak. The man who wrote it actually took his own life Sad

Also If I Believe You by 1975. A spine tingling, existential song that makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.

“I mean if it was you that made my body
You probably shouldn't have made me atheist
I'm a lesbian kiss
I'm an evangelist
And if you don't want to go to hell you better start selling this...”

wishywashywoowoo70 · 19/01/2021 17:53

@mamas12

I can’t live, was written by Badfinger Who also wrote No matter what,Baby Blue etc If you want heartbreak watch the documentary About them The song can’t listen to is Don’t let him touch me from porgy and Bess

A song called "Pretty U Ugly I" by an obscure US singer songwriter Peter Blegvad - a song written by his brother (Kristoffer).

It just described my situation at that time (it's about someone being with someone who no longer loves them).

ExitChasedByABear · 19/01/2021 17:55

I’m not usually moved by what I hear but Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol and more recently Galaxy by Ladies Code, I just get goosebumps and feel weirdly emotional Blush

LegoAndLolDolls · 19/01/2021 17:56

Take that Wooden boat.

Also colourblind ( the one sung by Amber Riley from glee but it foesnt talk to me about a romantic relationship. It's about my mum and her abuse.)

I love chasing cats. It takes me right back to my SEN appeals for my son. We had no support, felt like the world was against us. I have never felt so on my own

@QueenOfPain

I Will Follow You into the Dark by Death Cab for Cutie.

Incredibly beautiful lyrics about dying.

I walked down the aisle to I Will Follow You into the Dark because DH & I are both massive Emo kids 😂
DagenhamRoundhouse · 19/01/2021 18:00

Try the Judas Priest version!
