KOKOing everyone.

Checking in! Thanks for the new thread.

Can't sleep, been in bed over two hours Sad

Plonque · 19/01/2021 02:30

Cracking thread title, by the way Grin

Ladywinesalot · 19/01/2021 06:10

Morning!
Place marking...

InTheseUncertainTimes · 19/01/2021 06:49

Morning everyone, and thanks for the new thread HP.

I hope you got some sleep eventually Plonque. I seem to have slept okay; up several times, but managed to drift off again quickly enough.

Day 19. I have a bit more to do today, so I hope that will distract me from getting down and ruminating on either drinking/not drinking or anything else too much! Good luck, everyone!

itsme7 · 19/01/2021 07:24

Shiny new thread - thanks @HPLikecraft!

Hepzibar · 19/01/2021 07:39

Day 19! Nearly 3 weeks - astonishing.
Last night was the best nights sleep I've had since starting (and before). I have lost some weight, people have commented on it so it must be true 😀. I've dared to buy some scales now so determined to keep this up.
App says I've saved 11.3K calories - amazing (no wonder I'd piles on the pounds over last few years) and £177? Can't say I've noticed that!

I have a day off today and the 'old' me would have definitely over indulged last night "because I can" and I would have felt terrible today even though I have something really important to do.

Hepzibar · 19/01/2021 07:39

And thanks for the new (and old) threads OP!

Tomcullenisahero · 19/01/2021 08:13

Thanks for the new thread!
Hepzibar, i'm glad you slept well. For me it took ages to fall asleep without having a drink but now I sleep so well.
Can't believe there were so many posts that a new thread was needed!

Dugee · 19/01/2021 08:22

Morning, just reserving my place 😃

Dugee · 19/01/2021 08:26

I've just realised I've been sleeping really well for the last week or so. Deep constant sleep. I won't say I'm diving out of bed feeling really energetic each morning (because I like my cosy bed too much) but I feel well rested, not groggy and switched on.

Spacecudet · 19/01/2021 08:35

@HPLikecraft thanks for the new thread, love the title.

CrystalE · 19/01/2021 08:47

Morning all. Terrible nights sleep here. But day 19 - it's almost Day 20 isn't it and that is very satisfying.

Spent the wee small hours thinking about drinking at weddings which then lead to a whole rabbit hole of googling the cost of wedding packages.

katmarie · 19/01/2021 09:13

Morning, checking in :) love the new thread title, thanks for the shing new thread @HPLikecraft

I've lost about a pound a week since starting DJ, so I'm very happy with that. Less happy with my app saying I have 60 pounds to go, but never mind. Under 2 weeks left of January now,

buzzofthebumblebee · 19/01/2021 09:23

Thank you for the new thread & do hope that things at home are not so difficult for you @HPLikecraft. Sounds tough. Keep strong and stronger knowing what you have done for all of us Flowers

That is quite some calorie-save statistic @Hepzibar - I can quite believe it for myself too Blush.

Pleased to hear good sleep for many / most. Rubbish night for me, but down to stuff going on. Have a good day today everyone!

Amdone123 · 19/01/2021 09:25

Morning all. Thanks for the new thread @HPLikecraft. I sleeping badly but I'd have slept worse had I been drinking.
Overall I am feeling great. Bursting with energy, skin clear, feeling lighter.
In week 1,I ate my body weight in jelly babies ( dont have a sweet tooth), week 2 not so much and this week much better. Am glad about that as I eat healthily and don't like how sugar makes me feel.
Its.strange that apart from when getting my though down ( here or journaling),I've not been thinking about it as much. Week 1, I was not looked forward to the weekend,.week 2 a little anxious and now I'm not worried absolutely this weekend at all. Am looked forward to it. Tbh, I used to waste the weekend. Getting drunken Saturday then bed all day Sunday. It was no life x

Amdone123 · 19/01/2021 09:27

Sorry for typos - x

HPLikecraft · 19/01/2021 09:34

Morning all, good to see you a here in the new abode.

I didn't sleep well either, but will get caffeined up and get on with it. I'm also not eating so well... well I'll eat healthy meals, but have a metric hecktonne of crisps every day. I was supposed to be giving those up this month too!

So now, at 9.30, we're 59.3% of the way through! There is a very dim and distant glow at the end of the tunnel, but it's definitely within our grasp.

Stay strong everyone.

BrightSideRightSide · 19/01/2021 09:46

Morning all, thanks for the new thread!

According to my app I've saved 4303 calories, but I've definitely consumed all of that in snacks (and my dominos last night...). Trying not to weigh myself until the end of the month to see if I can get that under control!

thinkofablinkingnamewoman · 19/01/2021 11:15

Liking the look of 59.3%, thanks for that HPLikecraft

Poor night's sleep so have massively over-caffeined myself. Still waiting for the feeling better thing to happen - but I remain hopeful! It must surely be making a difference.....!

TeaRose29 · 19/01/2021 11:29

Thanks @HPLikecraft for the new thread, and sorry that you've been having a difficult time Flowers.

Love the new title! I'm on a roll now - Dry Hard with a Vengeance! 💪💪

It looks like many of us have turned the corner from sleeping badly and having withdrawal/detox/brain rewiring issues, to feeling genuinely much better. I'm beginning to realise what a crock of shite my previous "evening routine" was Blush. Monotonous, dulling, boring. Read the other day that "alcohol is a depressant masquerading as a relaxant". How true.

Msfoxy17 · 19/01/2021 11:30

Thanks for the new thread, OP.

May I ask those who have mentioned calorie counter which app you are using? I'm using Sobertime but it doesn't really show you much apart from days/hours etc without drinking and money saved..Thanks :)

thinkofablinkingnamewoman · 19/01/2021 12:04

Hi Msfoxy17 I'm using Alcohol Change's Try Dry app. You put in your average (ha!) week's drinking and then it tells you units, money and calories saved. I've found the calories part the most motivational as I'm trying to get rid of lockdown pounds!

Madcats · 19/01/2021 12:11

Thank you for the shiny new thread, HP and I hope that those of you in testing times are having a better week. I am finally sleeping better (this might have something to do with shutting the cats out of the bedroom and weeing before getting into bed).

I've been using TryDry (it's a yellow icon with a teacup, complete with cocktail umbrella). It isn't especially scientific about calories saved (you simply enter how many glasses of various drinks you reckon you were drinking per week). Still, it reckons DH and I have probably saved 20,000 calories between us and £300+ (in fact it is probably underestimating the cash saving because we aren't eating out/visiting pubs).

We both have activity watches with heart rate sensors, The most striking thing for both of us is the extent to which our resting heart rate has dropped (and my blood pressure). It has been rather a wake up call.
I am rather hoping that monitoring this will encourage me to stick to a glass of wine once in a while, rather than cracking open the wine every night. It will give me something to focus on (hopefully).

I read somewhere that the 3rd quarter of a "journey" is when we are most likely to cave to temptation. I'm not sure what to suggest, but later meals and not watching TV all evening seem to help us.

RaisinsRuinEverything · 19/01/2021 12:16

Thanks for the new thread. Day 19, "Dry Another Day"! Assuming I can make it to the end of the month I'd like to do Dry February too!
