Here we are again, gaining sequels even more rapidly than the Fast and the Furious...

I just watched the programme about Katie Price and Harvey. At the beginning of the programme there was a reminder that some people are mask exempt. So the fact that the BBC felt the need to put that caveat in at the beginning is surely an acknowledgement that mask exemption hatred is a thing.

Arrgh, back has gone all spasmy. But no one needs funds or swimming pools to be open because we can all go for a walk!! I'm in desperate need of a swim but I think I've been out of cold water for too long now to do that, and it'd be harder to do without leaving DD for too long. We could manage with the pool - if required we could just all go and DH have DD in the kids pool while I swim.

110APiccadilly · 26/01/2021 03:00

*gyms or swimming pools

bakingcupcakes · 26/01/2021 07:31

Those are rather scary articles Reed. I'm still not reading any news (other than what's posted on here). The 'look me in the eyes' adverts are awful. I haven't seen one in RL. Anybody know if they're on the telly?

Usually I don't watch anything with adverts but last night I started watching 'It's a sin' (about HIV/AIDS in the 80s) on channel 4 and I don't think I can wait for it week after week so that would mean watching with adverts (and shit internet). It's some of the best TV I've watched in a while - it really made me think about how things would have been different for me and my friends had we been out then rather than the noughties. Even with all the safe sex campaigning I've still got a few close friends now living with HIV. The outcome would have been so different if we'd been born 20 years earlier.

TabbyStar · 26/01/2021 08:13

I worked supporting people with HIV in the 90s. It was awful, I haven't been able to face It's a Sin yet. There's still a lot of focus on HIV safely in the gay male community that I think completely passes by other people.

NastyBlouse · 26/01/2021 08:23

I can't watch It's a Sin yet either. I want to, I just need to be in the right headspace for it. I was around the gay scene in Manchester and Liverpool in the 90s with my older brother and even then there was so much loss, so many funerals.

Tabby you're right, gay men seem to have frank conversations about HIV and safe sex as a matter of course that many straight people don't seem to. It's just an accepted part of life the testing, the checking of status, the risk assessment. (Two of my brothers are gay and aren't shy of sharing.)

[quote 110APiccadilly]Is the BBC starting to change their tune? (Maybe they've been infiltrated by the far right and their keenness for education?)

Or they've had the results from the survey they sent out. I certainly let them have it

ISaySteadyOn · 26/01/2021 09:59

Or it's because Biden is safely in office now. Sorry, have just read a whole slew of articles about the US opening up and the harms lockdown has caused. And, though I was not a fan of Trump and never voted for him, the timing seems awfully convenient.

Bollss · 26/01/2021 10:08

morning all.

not much to say really! urgh!

Lostinacloud · 26/01/2021 10:14

NY Times are running a story about how a Las Vegas school is being pushed to reopen as a result of a worrying increase in student suicides, substance abuse and self harming. One mother in the comments has ended a rant asking why it has taken MSM so long to highlight this and ends the rant with “again, we’re not saving lives now, we’re trading lives” Great point!

I'm finding that on phone calls or meeting people. Walked with a friend for an hour- 90 mins a few times in the last few weeks and conversation was drying up towards the end.

I have one more episode of It's A Sin left to watch. It is truly excellent, but tough to watch. The acting, dialogue, all of it... Extremely witty, powerful and moving. It has been a strange experience watching it under current circs.

TooManyPlatesInMotion · 26/01/2021 10:25

@wanderings the alternative posters you shared above are infinitely more moving than the originals. The originals leave me feeling nothing other than cold rage at our gov.

flower11 · 26/01/2021 10:35

I think most people will ignore the official posters, people are being careful anyway and those that aren't won't change because of a poster. The alternative are much more thought provoking.

In other news I've had a haircut, colleague did it at the end of work. Feels so good to get rid of those extra inches.

I'm not a fan of Trump but I do think the media (and some others) have been manipulating their stories in order to disadvantage him in the election. IIRC there was a vaccine announcement with rather suspicious timing. This sort of stuff does democracies no good in the long run - you need to win honestly, even if you're the better candidate. (Although I'm sure Trump would have done the same if he had the resources!)
Lostinacloud · 26/01/2021 10:39

Trump has been whisked away very quickly and as far as I’m aware his twitter account has still not been restored. Maniac leader of the US or not, I was half hoping he’d break silence and tell us what this is really all about in his outrage at losing his position!

They're so dramatic and narrowly focused they go right past me. I wear a mask as much as I can ( I have a up to about 20 mins before the panic attacks start) but not because I believe it helps. I'm not sure what else I can do. I've had ten months of being told I have to act like I have a virus I don't have.
Those very few people I see face to face, are able to make their own decisions.

CruCru · 26/01/2021 10:51

Crumbs. I’ve just checked out the Coronavirus topic.

Reedwarbler · 26/01/2021 10:58

@justasking111 I, too, got that BBC survey this morning. I had a very pleasant 20 mins telling them what I thought of them. I would love to be a fly on the wall when they collate the responses!

LivinLaVidaLoki · 26/01/2021 11:44

I also let the BBC have it on that survey...........

ElizabethG81 · 26/01/2021 11:56

Long time lurker, hope it's OK to join in.

I'm horrified by the way controls are being escalated and the general public opinion seems to be "good, give us more". 10 day quarantine for people entering the country? "No guarantee" that schools can open before Easter? This is horrific and I can't believe people are accepting it.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 26/01/2021 12:01

I think people have hit threat fatigue level and just tune out anything in yellow and black now. And the hands face space one just made me think of the "welcome to duloc" song in Shrek.
