Here we are again, gaining sequels even more rapidly than the Fast and the Furious...

Dd asked her Ghanaian uni flatmate if he wanted to build a snowman. He said he had a onion for the mouth. I don't think he was joking Grin

Reedwarbler · 24/01/2021 10:19

Don't know how to link, but the Telegraph is saying that the government has just extended the corona virus regs for local authorities until July 17th. Can you believe this?

I once lived and studied in a uni with a lot of international students, particularly Nigerians and Indians. The winter I was there it snowed, and watching these adults gleefully build their first snowmen and have their first snowball fights was brilliant.

Yes, Telegraph are reporting this and other papers have it too. I cannot fucking believe it. Apparently they are about to rule a return for schools after half term too.
ISaySteadyOn · 24/01/2021 10:59

Rule out or rule in? I think I know the answer but I live in hope

SirSamuelVimes · 24/01/2021 11:04

Wanksock has apparently said he hopes schools will be back after Easter.Sad

Iheartmysmart · 24/01/2021 11:09

I’ve just been out in the snow with DDog. Had forgotten how much he loves it! Lots of people out and there was actually a brief interlude when things didn’t seem quite so bloody awful.

Haven’t dared venture onto MSM this morning. Yesterday they were a tiny bit positive so today is bound to be full of proclamations that the end is nigh.

What do you think would happen if we all just said enough and went back to living again?

I really feel for all of you waiting for a decision on the schools reopening Flowers

LivinLaVidaLoki · 24/01/2021 11:24

I honestly think Hancock should be stopped from opening his trap on television when not accompanied by scientists or professionals.

At the briefing on Friday they were asked about Hancocks claim earlier that day that one of the new variants reduced the efficacy of the vaccine by 40%.

I forget which one but Whitty or Valance had to do some serious back pedalling and a lot of "we don't have enough data" that even the biggest fucking idiot could see they thought he was spouting shit.

He is now looking more and more like the kid at the party who doesn't want it to end, and is kicking and screaming and stamping his feet that it may soon be over.

For the first time in his limp dick existence he has power and he is loving it.

ISaySteadyOn · 24/01/2021 11:28

DH thinks that they keep ramping up fear and variants cos they know there will be a reckoning and are dreading it.

DrRamsesEmerson · 24/01/2021 11:37

Your DH may well be right, @ISaySteadyOn. The sky will be thick with chickens coming home to roost in the next couple of years, between this and Brexit. I imagine they know they’ll have to hold a public inquiry once the pandemic is over.

ISaySteadyOn · 24/01/2021 11:43

It's snowing though. Here in London. And the DC are the happiest I have seen them. Take that, doom mongers. You can't destroy all joy!

wanderings · 24/01/2021 11:55

@ISaySteadyOn I agree, they're desperate to keep the plebs in obedience school now, to stop them rioting; they know they're on borrowed time, as it is. The post-Christmas lull has well and truly worn off, people are getting restless, Saint Boris's fear is palpable that he will have riots on his hands for the second time on his watch (the first time when he was London mayor). Sooner or later, the public will see through the lies, spin and scaremongering. As far as I am concerned, every "illegal rave busted" is a victory for the people; and those are just the ones that are found out. I bet there are many other party-goers sticking two fingers up to Saint Boris and his merry men, probably holding a massive "Boo for Boris" as part of it.

NastyBlouse · 24/01/2021 12:17

Morning all. Snowing here! Although it's easing off already. Sad

Fantastic news Jourdain 🥂

I too echo the comradeship onboard the AD bus. Although if anyone needs to step away for a bit, I do hope you at least keep reading and come back soon. I feel very fond of you all. These threads have done more for my sanity over the last few months than my prescribed medication and I am not being facetious there.

The tide is turning, I think. FIL has been one of the biggest fear-merchants going. He does drive-bys via WhatsApp, plopping scare story links on the group family chat and then doing one.

But today he remarked that Friday's presser on the 'deadlier' new variant was misleading, vague and felt like half-finished research. Shock This is a big shift.

NastyBlouse · 24/01/2021 12:18

Blush Well it was morning when I started typing that. Kept being distracted...

Normandy144 · 24/01/2021 12:56

I don't often post here but dip in occasionally to keep me sane. Snow has been beautiful here and we are lucky to have a park on our street which is a great snow hill. We went early and enjoyed ourselves. Kids were so excited to try their sleds. About an hour after we got home the first dementory post on our local Facebook began. They're still moaning now. Enjoy your snow day everyone if you are lucky to have it.

It’s brilliant isn’t it? My two went utterly bonkers and gathered up every flake of snow in our tiny garden into a giant ball. It was lovely watching them (through the window, with the heating on and a cup of coffee).

apple.news/ASrngjeRVR4yIcAdFB9iikg I was pleased to see this story in the MSM this morning, about how school closures are affecting children with SN.

Worldgonecrazy · 24/01/2021 13:09

Just been sledging and it was soo normal. Only two people wearing masks (why?) and lots of people having fun. It was great.

@Jourdain11 so happy to read your news

wanderings · 24/01/2021 13:46

300-strong overnight party in Hackney, London, in railway arches. More defiance of the tyranny of Saint Boris. He's not succeeding in brainwashing all the public; and that is something I fear more than the virus.

Blobby10 · 24/01/2021 14:12

OH and I have been watching the Netflix series Designated Survivor and series 3 is all about a lab made virus that attacks people of colour 😱😱some of the phrases they are using such as ‘tell people to cough into their elbows’ and ‘ tell people to wear masks - they won’t do anything but might help’ !! It’s really spooky - almost as though the writers could see ahead to 2020

Curlygirl06 · 24/01/2021 14:20

@Jourdain11) fantastic news, hooray!

We've got snow here and on one of the local "Spotted in?" someone was moaning about people being out sledding, playing in the snow, don't you know there's a pandemic on etc. They had about 300 replies, all of them handing them their arse on a plate, good!
Bloody miseries.

@LivinLaVidaLoki I so agree with you. I've said before that Wanksock is the kid who was bullied at school, picked last for any team sports etc and now he's taking the ultimate revenge.

And good on you booking your holidays. We moved our Greece holiday from last August to this August and I'm keeping everything crossed that it goes ahead.

amicissimma · 24/01/2021 15:02

Great news, Jourdain11.

From The Telegraph (23 Jan):
"The changes to the Health Protection (Coronavirus, Restrictions) (England) (No.3) Regulations 2020 were made as part of a review of the third lockdown by Matt Hancock, the Health Secretary, earlier this month.

This law (originally introduced on July 18 last year) allows a local authority to close or limit access to premises or outdoor spaces in its area to prevent the spread of coronavirus, including stopping events.

The regulation, which applies to England only, was due to expire last week but has now been extended until July 17, around the date when school summer holidays begin, as part of a slew of other measures."

LivinLaVidaLoki · 24/01/2021 15:07

Oh my god this might out me, but I've just had the most epic sanctimonious Facebook post takedown. But I couldn't help myself, I've finally flipped and had enough.
Friend posts this meme...prompted this exchange:
Me "until you've had to accompany a teenage rape/abuse/suffocation survivor to the supermarket while they have an anxiety attack over potentially having to explain their experience to some security knob you should probably stop judging others"
Friend: "if it makes them uncomfortable maybe they can get a delivery"
Me "really, out of the 56 pounds they are expected to feed and heat themselves, they should shell out on delivery? Or a more expensive supermarket for delivery? Or be judged for taking a slot away from a vulnerable person? Maybe she should just stay home and starve? At least then you'd be spared the sight of another mask less "yoof" in the supermarket"
Friend "I really have nothing more to say to you"
Me: "Sorry does this make you uneasy? Do you not like being forced into uncomfortable conversations or situations? #irony"

Ddog is fuming about the snow - views it as a personal insult. She needed to go for a wee - looked out the back door, flounced off and checked the conservatory door and front window for more suitable weather options.
