Here we are again, gaining sequels even more rapidly than the Fast and the Furious...

Heres the bad news. Here we are as predicted i now have three itchy sore little impetigo blisters on my bottom lip and the skin just underneath
DESPITE wearing disposable masks
i used to get it recurrently between 2005 and 2014. Last attack was late October 2014 After being clear of it for SIX AND A HALF YEARS its fucking back. Cheers Hancock and co. you fucking bellends.
Here is the good news. After seeing the state of it i was given a sunflower lanyard by a supermarket worker.

Fucking told them so on the other fucking board.

Made the mistake of looking at the news. I can't help but feel like we are never getting out of this. South African variant will knock vaccines efficacy right down, virus going to be with us forever, they're never going to let us have a our freedom back are they?? Someone talk me down please, I feel like I'm on a precipice.

Seriouslymole · 22/01/2021 23:09

@ISaySteadyOn

We watched The Empire Strikes Back tonight. I had forgotten how much I love those films.
I love the “first” three but have been lost ever since. DS - he of eaten volcano fame - is mad into it all at the moment and I feel totally out of it.

They won’t keep it going forever - I know it seems like it but honestly it will end. I know how you feel on your precipice but spring is coming. Whatever else happens, the sun will get warmer and the birds will sing louder. Sending Flowers

It is a coronavirus - like some varieties of the common cold. It is new so many of us don't have enough of the right immunity.

It will, in one form or another, be with us forever but will, eventually, just be one of the viruses that can infect us. The flu kills thousands every year, because this is new, it has killed a bigger proportion, it won't continue to do this. The vaccine, like the flu vaccine, will be adjusted annually to suit whichever version of the virus is currently on the rampage. It will also continue to be perfected to reduce the side effects that are currently far too frequent.

Variations of the Spanish flu are still around but we are not locking down every year because of it. People somewhere in the world are still catching the plague - but it is rarely fatal these days.

MercyBooth · 22/01/2021 23:25

@SirSamuelVimes Sorry you are feeling like this. Flowers I feel fucking furious.

justasking111 · 22/01/2021 23:42

@SirSamuelVimes. I deliberately did not watch Drakeford, nor Boris today because I have had enough of their rending of garments. When you pick up on individual words they spout you get the following.

COULD - MIGHT - MAY - PERHAPS - etc.etc. They are like a fish out of water flapping around in the bottom of boat gasping for the right verb, contradicting themselves daily.

AcornAutumn · 23/01/2021 00:09

Mercy glad you got a lanyard.

Would Sudocreme be any help?

MercyBooth · 23/01/2021 00:35

Hi Acorn. Flowers Pharmacist at Boots told me just to cleanse it as usual but not to put anything on it. I mentioned i use Simple and she said that was fine. Its not itching all the time like it used to in the past and is stuck at the blister stage and isnt developing as fast as it normally does. Pharmacist said i might be lucky and it might not go any further. When it does itch its unbearable though. Scared im going to scratch it in my sleep. Fingers crossed i wont have to go for a GP appointment as its a struggle to get one. I usually get given Fucidin cream and antibiotics.

AcornAutumn · 23/01/2021 00:42

Mercy good that it's not itchy

If you're worried about scratching in your sleep then something like Germolene - with a teeny bit of anaesthetic - might help. Fingers crossed it goes away fast.

MercyBooth · 23/01/2021 00:51

Thanks @AcornAutumn Flowers My dad always swears by Germolene He always had a tin of that in the house in the 80s

TabbyStar · 23/01/2021 06:48

I haven't had the old-fashioned smelling Germolene for ages, go they still do it (the pink stuff in a round metal pot ?) - I think we had some white cream in a tube, but it wasn't the same DD didn't like it anyway.

I too am really frustrated by refusal to acknowledge that the current situation is driving more people into poor health which in turn is making us more vulnerable

Yes this is the thing that really incenses me too it's absolutely ridiculous at a time when we should be improving our health.

Checking in!

Bollss · 23/01/2021 08:21
@TheOrchidKiller - well I'm glad it's achieved something - even if it was just to make you laugh!

We have rebuilt the volcano - it is now on top of a wardrobe. The dog has done a perfectly normal poo so we await tomorrow's offering and pray for no blockage.

I'm not watching or looking at the news today. I can do without it after the day I've had.
When I was little I was making a paper mache robot with my dad. He had put it on a high shelf to dry out in the "wash house" with the door shut. To this day, I don't know how, but our bloody Yorkshire terrier somehow managed to break in, get the thing down and eat it. Little shit bag he was. He was fine though and he was usually on a special diet Grin

Bollss · 23/01/2021 08:23

Checking in. I'm ill. I genuinely feel horrendous. However no cough or temp so I'm not covid ill. Well I suppose I could be but I'm not going to find out. I'm half vaccinated but only a few days ago so fuck knows. It feels sinus-y and they are the bloody worst.

SirSamuelVimes · 23/01/2021 08:24

Thanks for the calming words ladies. I feel better this morning.

DrRamsesEmerson · 23/01/2021 08:28

Checking in. Mercy, really hope the impetigo clears up quickly.

Sorry you’re feeling ill, @TrustTheGeneGenie. One of my team at work has had flu this week (you know that ‘just flu’ that is nothing to worry about) and has been horrendously ill. He lives alone and I’ve been really worried about him, and of course no-one can visit. He says he has friends checking on him, which is something. But it’s not Covid (he had a test) so no-one gives a damn.

110APiccadilly · 23/01/2021 08:30

I do imagine (perhaps wrongly) that a dog line a greyhound would need a lot of calories and so would be frequently hungry, if less so than a Labrador!

Anyway, I think I'm now a fully-fledged mumsnetter - I have a MiL issue (she wants me to get involved in sorting out something which isn't actually an issue anyway between DH and his brother). Should I LTB or go NC? It's clearly one or the other.

(Disclaimer: I am very fond of my MiL, who is generally great but I think is a bit socially stifled by lockdown, so is making a mountain out of a molehill. Also, no mockery is intended towards those who have genuinely difficult in laws!)

Could it be a vaccine reaction? If you don't had it a few days ago. Hopefully it'll pass soon whatever it is.
110APiccadilly · 23/01/2021 08:32

*only had it

Bollss · 23/01/2021 08:38

Thanks!

Yes could be! A few people have said they've felt a bit rough for a few days after. Urghhhh.

@justasking111 absolutely this.
I watched the presser and each time they talked scary variants and mortality rates it was always caveated "we don't have enough data".
Then what the fuck are you honestly standing up there for? Then carrying on about the new variant being 30 to 70% more transmissible.....hasn't it been shown to be closer to 30-40% now?

ISaySteadyOn · 23/01/2021 09:13

I just want this to be over and I see no end to it. I feel like SirSamuelVimes did yesterday. Could I ask for some hopeful words too?

BogRollBOGOF · 23/01/2021 09:26

I'm feeding my soul on the little bits of nature. The bulbs poking through, the daylight stretching out a bit more each week. We're towards 4;30pm now and a month from the shortest day.

2020BogOff · 23/01/2021 09:27

It's no wonder most of us are struggling.
Any time there is a glimmer of hope they snatch it away. Vaccines are here but lockdown will continue as we lied and now we say they won't be a way back to normal. Rates are going down but there is a tiny possibility that maybe it is more deadly in a study not peer reviewed so lockdown continues. Summer is coming but expect restrictions to continue and as winter follows summer lockdown will continue. So sick of the reporting in the news.

Jeez with sod all to look forward to it's no wonder we all feel shit.
