Happy Birthday @Curlygirl06

According to Private Eye workfare is on its way back for those who have lost jobs as a result of this. So they stop people from working and then the answer is to put people on work "placements" When those who have never been unemployed before , who have owned their own businesses end up on what is basically workfare then a backlash to all this is more likely.

TabbyStar · 21/01/2021 16:10

He won't even look at the screen when we do zoom. It's frustrating when I know he knows the answers.

Tbh if he already knows the answers I'd use that as a good reason to go and do something more interesting where he's learning stuff he wants to! But then I failed to get my teen to home educate so I might not be the best advisor Grin

Happy Birthday @Curlygirl06

Someone at work shared in our meeting today that today is National Hugging Day.

I couldn't stop myself.....before I knew I'd said it, it was too late.....

"You taking the piss"

NI extends their lockdown till 5th March

Happy Birthday @Curlygirl06!

Happy Birthday @Curlygirl06!

@mightbealittlebitmad I would definitely email or send a letter to school. Switch the online lessons on (I guess you might have to, to register) but if your DS isn't able to engage, he isn't going to engage. I think I might sound a bit flippant, but having had a child who couldn't/ wouldn't engage with school work I can imagine how painful & stressful it is for both of you. Sometimes you have to take the path of least resistance, for both your sakes. Your life sounds so tough, sometimes you just have to do what works for you, & if that means not doing school work, then so be it.

NannyGythaOgg · 21/01/2021 17:24

Happy Birthday CurlyGirl

Mine next week and it's finally pay back time (I start getting my state pension)

I've joined a vaccine trial today.

One injection today and a further one in 2 months but I don't know if I have vaccine or water. Have to report back with temp and O2 saturation every day this week and then twice a week going forward.

Randomly the vaccine is called 'AD'26

TheOrchidKiller · 21/01/2021 17:39

Good luck @NannyGythaOgg. Hope you feel ok tonight. I felt like crap after my first trial jab but was fine after the second.
Love the name of the vaccine!
Congratulations on achieving your state pension too. I suspect I'll be 90 before they let me get mine. Can't imagine doing this work for another few years, let alone 17 or 18. On the other hand, it's a job, & I'm fortunate to have it.

NannyGythaOgg · 21/01/2021 18:09

@TheOrchidKiller
I'm kind of hoping I feel a little bit crap - then I can believed I've had the real thing. If I don't feel anything I won't believe I've had anything useful even though I know many people don't feel crap at all.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 21/01/2021 18:26

I had my vaccine today. Arm a bit sore but generally OK.
Anyone else noticed that hospital admissions are falling? Strange it's not been on the news that eh?

Iheartmysmart · 21/01/2021 18:30

Hmm I noticed that as well Livin when I had a quick look at the daily summary dashboard. It’s really annoying that the good news is never publicised and you have to actively seek it out.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 21/01/2021 18:37

Hope you don't mind me wallowing here a bit but work is now starting to get relentless. It physically hurts me seeing what we are doing to some of the most vulnerable people.
My workload is constantly shooting up and I give it absolutely everything but I am exhausted, shattered to the point that most nights I just want to cry and then crawl into bed. Then get up the next morning knowing what lies ahead and feeling the struggle. This is the only safe space I have where I can feel I can say this. To everyone else these kids are collateral damage, they'll "get over" all of this....and its breaking me.

You are all always so nice and non judgemental. And you always all cheer me up so I feel I can wallow here for a bit.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 21/01/2021 18:38

I daresay if we cried all over the news no one would give a shit.

smallandimperfectlyformed · 21/01/2021 18:51

Sorry you are having such a tough time at work LivinLaVidaLoki it's rubbish what is happening to vulnerable young people. I am in a bad place myself today because I am feeling a bit hopeless at the relentless nature of it all. Today has been a write off and I just want it to be bedtime!

ISaySteadyOn · 21/01/2021 18:52

Flowers Are there ways we can help? I may only be a SAHM but I definitely care a lot.

And I am furious at what is being done to children. I think no one did think of them and it makes me feel so angry.

MercyBooth · 21/01/2021 18:53

@LivinLaVidaLoki thats heartbreaking. You are giving all of yourself and more. You are doing a wonderful job. Flowers It makes me so angry that the prevailing attitude is "oh they will get over it" Angry

Iheartmysmart · 21/01/2021 19:10

Feel free to vent and wallow as much as you like @LivinLaVidaLoki. Unfortunately there’s a huge number of people who are under the impression that every child is wanted, loved and cared for but that isn’t reality. It bloody well should be though. FlowersCakeWine

TooManyPlatesInMotion · 21/01/2021 19:12

@LivinLaVidaLoki I am do sorry. It is shit. You are right - many people do regard young lives ruined as "collateral" damage, but not everyone. And I hope our voices will be heard.

Taswama · 21/01/2021 19:13

On the LSE interview that Tabby linked to the quote that really struck me was:

'The closing of schools has disproportionately affected disadvantaged kids in a way that is not proportionate to the risk of the virus' .

DrRamsesEmerson · 21/01/2021 19:15

I’m so sorry, @LivinLaVidaLoki. It really is shit how little children and young people have been considered in all this. So grateful that you and your colleagues are there and the most vulnerable people haven’t been entirely abandoned.

flower11 · 21/01/2021 19:19

Oh Loki I often think of you and how hard your work must be. I wish I could take you down the pub and buy you a big drink.

Are you getting supervision at work? My work is at least keeping up with supervision and recognizing how important it is at this time.

MercyBooth · 21/01/2021 19:23

MSM not interested in families being left without electric. Despite the need to keep clean re. Covid. I bet if they were having house parties they would be all over it though.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 21/01/2021 19:47

Thank you all so much for your kind words. I really do love you all. @flower11 when all this is over we all need to meet for a BIG DRINK I think. We are having regular supervisions and that's really helping me to just offload and to be able to raise my concerns and try and make changes to my work pattern. The hours I work some days are just unsustainable.
@taswama the worst bit isn't the school closures it's the having a place to live. A safe place.
@TooManyPlatesInMotion I'm determined that even if my voice doesn't get heard, theirs will.
@isaysteadyon there is no such thing as just a SAHM. Not sure there's anything you can do right now but we are starting to look at support for when this is all over, and considering we are also expecting funding cuts and service cuts, there's a chance we will be relying on volunteers.....

Really I've a tear in my eye reading this. 8ts amazing how much support you can feel from people you've never met.

BogRollBOGOF · 21/01/2021 20:33

Happy Birthday CurlyGirl Cake Wine
Enjoy blowing out the candles on your potato Grin

Livin, it must be so difficult seeing the real toll of all this and limited on what you can do to support. It amazes me how blind people are to the challenges that many families and young people have.

There was one day last week where it was cold. I clicked the heating on for an hour and grabbed a snuggly blanket. We've got a lovely snuggly fluffy one each. How many children don't have a safe space to work in, warmth, enough food, support (and that's not including emotionally supportive parents that are just struggling on time). People were quickto moan that their datlings were cold in school with the windows open. What about the children constantly cold with no change of environment.
There is nothing that can be cut from budgets involving young people that does not involve harm.

How can we fund public services if the economy is fucked? We're already paying for austerity with social mobility and public health.
