Here we are again, gaining sequels even more rapidly than the Fast and the Furious...

You aren't alone @LivinLaVidaLoki - we're all here.

Come and rant whenever if it helps. Flowers

TabbyStar · 21/01/2021 21:02

Sometimes it all feels awful but then something like this momentarily cheers me up!

Livin hugs if you want them.

Curly happy birthday!

Curlygirl06 · 21/01/2021 21:54

Thanks for all the lovely messages, I've had a fab day. My girls have surprised me with a tortoise, she's arriving next week! Gotta think of a name now but have been told Twinkle is not allowed. 😫Boring bunch!

SirSamuelVimes · 21/01/2021 21:59

Ooh what a fab present. A part of me has wanted a tortoise ever since I read Esio Trot as a child. Pictures when she gets there please!

TabbyStar · 21/01/2021 21:59

Didn't we already do tortoise names on another thread? Grin

Dowser · 21/01/2021 22:03

Happy birthday curlygirl 😁

Dowser · 21/01/2021 22:15

Went into tow centre today.
All very soulless
I counted 14 businesses open, including Halifax, post office, spec savers etc
It normally got a little buzz about it and nice and warm
But no the miserable fuckers won’t put the heating on..they just want to turn the thumbscrews
I had a good chat fo the staff in the shops
Let them know how much they are appreciated

TheOrchidKiller · 21/01/2021 22:20

You have to call the tortoise Twinkle! Just for the double-entendre potential at the vets when you ask if he can take a look at your Twinkle.

(I must stop watching 1970s sitcoms on ITV 3. Sorry).

Wishfulthinking1977 · 21/01/2021 22:33

Happy birthday @Curlygirl06! Have been off a couple of days as have been having to deal with elderly in laws completely abandoned by our local health care system! 1 collapsed very badly twice and refused any treatment unless a negative test!!! No Internet access and cannot do test themselves so had to do a mercy dash to administer test and deal with all the online faff!! Other one refused blood tests as cannot wear a mask due to a multitude of reasons and now they cannot access any shopping as 0 online slots for ages and supermarket will only allow 1 in at a time!! Going to have to bite the bullet take mil shopping we will both be mask less as both exempt plus my household has already had it and out of isolation! Ffs we are not only fucking up the country and our kids we are now throwing those we are supposed to be protecting under a bus as well!! Sorry for the rant just at the end of my tether and ready to hit something!! 😂😂

I too went into town yesterday just had to get out. Thought B and M might cheer me up. When I got there I thought what am I doing. Went in did a few aisles, bought a few food bits, my mask did not fit well, my glasses continually steamed up. Such a miserable experience I gave up and went to the checkout. Felt so beaten down by it all.
justasking111 · 21/01/2021 22:45

Noticed in B and M everyone is doing that weird side step dance, dodging around people who are coming towards you in case you frighten them.

Oh yes we did, that was me! The concensus was that Twinkle was not a good idea, due to the "connotations", but randomly out of the blue my girls vetoed it.

Yep will do.
NannyGythaOgg · 21/01/2021 23:09

I'e just watched 'The Chaser's Road Trip' which was unexpectedly brilliant. They aren't going up against humans but Bonobos, Chimps, Orangutans and Dolphins. All of which they lost against.

Very watchable.

Has anyone else seen the report in the Guardian that the government are thinking of paying £500 to everyone with a positive Covid test? They haven't mentioned the obvious possible effect... people tend to be incentivised to meet criteria they'll be paid to meet. Herd immunity here we come, I assume!!

MercyBooth · 22/01/2021 02:51

When we were kids the next door neighbours had a pet tortoise. He would often end up in our garden by getting under the fence
But of course DB and i never ever tempted him with lettuce. Grin

countrygirl99 · 22/01/2021 05:40

@dowser the heating issues might not be money. We have several branches where the heating has broken but the parts come from a warehouse in Belgium so they are stuck in a massive covid and Brexit courier backlog.

TabbyStar · 22/01/2021 06:11

Wishful that sounds really stressful, but also against the Equality Act of only one person allowed into supermarket at one time (did I get that right?)

I've got to take DM to hospital this morning, no idea if I'll be allowed in as carer, last time in theory I wasn't but as they just laughed at us when we asked for a porter to transfer her from the entrance to the clinic they let me in to take her.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 22/01/2021 06:58

Just read a thread over there where a poster is talking about her friend who committed suicide and the rises in suicide due to lockdown.

What I find staggering is that there are posters there saying that people who commit suicide during the pandemic will have had serious problems and issues before then, so it can't be all the fault of covid etc as it's not as if they were fine before all of this.
So, how is that statement OK but it is heartless to point out that many covid deaths had pre existing conditions and so "its not like they were fine before all of this".

Because lots of people know that their health isn't 100%. Look at how being obese in terms of increasing covid deaths just isn't highlighted now when it was briefly at the beginning. Even pictures of people in hospital when they are overweight are labelled as having no preexisting conditions. Oh and DH and I are looking at our weight and trying to lose some so it's not as if we are healthy as it applies to us.

This is why I think people are happy to gloss over suicide and MH as they think they will never suffer from that, or even worse that they look down on MH as people not being resilient like they are.

Blobby10 · 22/01/2021 07:56

@dowser they might also have been told to by Head Office to keep the heating off as 'Covid doesn't survive in the cold' or their air con doesn't have the required level of outward flow (or something!) like OH dental surgery which is currently 8 deg as he has to have the windows open to help air flow ! Our local Specsavers isn't allowing people collecting glasses to go into the shop! They have a gazebo up outside and the customer waits while the glasses are brought outside where they try them on for fit etc. One poor chap was there for well over half an hour (I walked past him on the way out on my walk and then on my way back!) He was well over the age when standing out in the cold for half an hour would do him any good. Its bordering barbaric!

My mum came out with a gem yesterday - shes heard that joggers and cyclists will be forced to wear masks because as they go past people, those people can smell their sweat therefore they must be shedding Covid. Is this REALLY what we are heading towards? Sad

Morning all.

Not much to say except same shit different day.

Actually looking forward to the weekend for reasons unknown. Won't be doing anything but I guess at least I won't be working.

The difference a weekend makes is not hearing DH on the phone permeating through the house, and not clock watching to battle the DCs onto live learning at a particular moment.
