If name changing were as easy in real life as on MN? I can't decide myself but my dd chose Avery. What would you choose and why?

My name is horrible, a sickly sweet floral name so I go by my miff,ex name most of the time. The only thing I can say is good about it is that it's not Karen which must be grim right now.

Figgyboa · 17/01/2021 06:53

Evelyn, nickname evie.

AppleCinnamonVanilla · 17/01/2021 07:58

I’m a Julie 🙄 but I would love to have been called Julia or Juliet.
Or Antoinette.

Curlyshabtree · 17/01/2021 08:12

Xanthe. Love it! What a cool name.

MistleTOEboughski · 17/01/2021 08:52

@SaladBowlsAndBasinsAndBuckets I wondered if anyone would go for Balonz Grin

Georgia. When I was born, it was very uncommon, but my dad was a huge jazz fan and wanted "jazz" names for me and my sister - we would have been Georgia and Carolina! My mum thought they were totally unheard of, and instead picked two of the most boring names ever for us!

TwoHundredThousandTimes · 17/01/2021 09:05

@FiveShelties

I also would change to Anastasia, I think I am the third to pick that nameGrin

I wanted to call my Sheltie Anastasia, but my husband couldn't picture himself shouting that on the beach to get her to come back. Probably as well as she is selectively deaf so that would have been a lot of shouting.

My parents had a dog called Gwendolynne.

That was a PITA to yell out also. :)

I have a very very common name. I'd go for something really odd. I once read a book that had a character in it called Leveret and I really liked that.

TwoHundredThousandTimes · 17/01/2021 09:06

Also I went to school with someone who changed her name from Jenny to Wednesday. It went brilliantly with her surname and suited her.

MrsSmith2021 · 17/01/2021 09:18

It’s quite sad isn’t it, when you think of the amount of effort our parents make in trying to choose the perfect name.

FiveShelties · 17/01/2021 09:23

@TwoHundredThousandTimes love it Grin

whoamongstus · 17/01/2021 09:28

Romy. I know someone with the name and I've always liked it, plus I think it would suit my face!

Hortuslover · 17/01/2021 10:06

It would be Esther for me. Never got to use it for ours as we had all boys but I just love the name.

My name is very standard and has been mentioned on here, I’m not overly keen on mine!

grey12 · 17/01/2021 10:07

When I was a kid I wanted to be named Rosa.

Nowadays I wouldn't change my name

CoffeeAndCaramel · 17/01/2021 10:09

I'd love to be a Rosie or Charlotte!

My names Ellis which I don't mind, Altho often mistaken for my surname lol

It is a bit sad but it's so common to want to change I think we should make it easier to do.

Jill.

I think it suits a young girl and also a strong, capable, kind woman.

Classic but very under-used.

(Just Jill though. Not so keen on Jillian.)

MrsSmith2021 · 17/01/2021 10:18

@MistleTOEboughski it’s really easy to change your name. Unfortunately I can’t imagine telling all the people I know that my new name is Alex and stop calling me MrsSmith. Thankfully I don’t have to hear my name too often. My DH calls me Babe and my children call me Mum Grin

My parents, at least one of them, didn't like my name at all. They had two names picked out and then didn't use either of them because my Mum saw the name of the cleaner on the ward and for some inexplicable reason used that name for me instead even though she didn't like it.
Justcashnosweets · 17/01/2021 10:22

Laura. Which is the name my Mum almost gave me. Instead she gave me one that was popular in England at the time, but is not used at all anymore. I really don't like it.
@whenever i go to atarbucks - i give mu name as Vivienne 😎
Oh Id love to do that!! but I'd look behind me and see somebody I knew!

MagicSummer · 17/01/2021 10:25

I don't mind my name but always wanted to be called Alexandra - it is both lovely and a family name, or Victoria.

My parents chose the feminine version of the gynaecologist's name for my second name!

MistleTOEboughski · 17/01/2021 10:27

Yes that's what I mean really, it's just a big deal to change your name and your parents might be upset and so on, but why shouldn't you just change it?

Aggie

FreeChuro · 17/01/2021 12:36

LadyDique

My name is Cassie, short for something other than Cassandra though Smile

lljkk · 17/01/2021 12:45

I did rename myself, as a child, it became my legal name. I can't imagine any other.
It was fashionable name then & there were many others in some of my school years.

This name that I chose is routinely dissed on MN as absolutely awful.
Be careful what you wish for!
