If name changing were as easy in real life as on MN? I can't decide myself but my dd chose Avery. What would you choose and why?

Hmm, I once met a fabulous woman called Cordelia but I think I'm much more of a Harriet. Sadly I have a plain, 70s type of name.

SapphireSeptember · 17/01/2021 00:45

I have a few I like
If I really wanted to go all out I'd call myself Severina Tabitha Snape. Grin
Sapphire
Amethyst
I don't know what my mum would say if I changed my name though, (and if I did I'd change my surname while I was at it, my ex-H pressured me into changing it when I married him.)

Noti23 · 17/01/2021 00:57

@MistleTOEboughski aw that’s sweet. My friend’s little boy is called Avery and it’s a lovely name.

I probably wouldn’t change my name now. As a child I wanted to be called Tom (I’m female 😂)

InvisibleMoonDancer · 17/01/2021 01:11

I have the most boring, over used name ever and although I dislike it I'd never change it as I'd feel I was (for lack of a better word) betraying my parents. I'd have loved to have been called Zara or possibly Marnie.

ZoeCM · 17/01/2021 01:15

I like my name, but if I had to change it, I'd choose Julia.

Will0wtree · 17/01/2021 01:24

I was named after my mother, and it was an "old person" name when she was called it, and she hated it. But she agreed with my father to calling me the same name because she was convinced I'd be a boy and she' wouldn't have to go through with it.

I've gotten used to it. Last time I looked only four people in the UK last year were called it. But it's not old enough to have come back into fashion like Mabel, So it's managed to be both boring, dull and ageing.

I'd quite like being a Claudia.........

Crapbuttrue · 17/01/2021 01:30

Avery reminds me of printer labels.

grassisjeweled · 17/01/2021 01:31

Astrid or Mallory.

kaleishorrid · 17/01/2021 01:32

Persephone or Serafina. I love them both. I wanted to call DD Persephone but DH vetoed it - wish I'd given it to her as a middle name.

OnGoldenPond · 17/01/2021 01:32

Towanda

LadyDique · 17/01/2021 01:36

I've always loved Anastasia and Odette.

And oddly, Cassandra. I always wanted to be a Cassandra as a child so that I could have the nn of Cassie 🤷🏻‍♀️

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 17/01/2021 01:50

i hate my name absolutely despise it.
I’ve never forgiven my parents for calling me it (Clare). I hate the fact There’s no shortening or friendly alternative or anything. In my family no matter how short your name is it get shortened. Therefore if you get your full time you know you’ve pissed someone off. Grin, but I’m always just Clare. My sister some times winds me up and calls me Clarie which I hate even more.
However I’ve never actually thought what I would like to be called. Good question.

SaladBowlsAndBasinsAndBuckets · 17/01/2021 01:51

Balonz Grin

My sister has an unusual name and mine is fairly dull (although mentioned upthread!) We used to say we wished we had had each other's names, I think that would have suited both of us better. But the names my parents wanted to call me were truly dreadful so I will stick with mine over them thanks!

JaneJeffer · 17/01/2021 01:59

Avery reminds me of Sylvia's mother. Sylvia is actually nice so I'll choose that!

Fudgsicles · 17/01/2021 02:08

I've always like Elizabeth but then I saw from my birth certificate that it was my estranged mother's middle name and it put me off. I still love the name though.

When I was younger I desperately wanted to be called Nancy.

I don't really like my name. It's not popular but not weird or anything. It's just a bit meh. I've never seen anyone on here say they wished they were called it or seen it on the baby names board.

TealSapphire · 17/01/2021 02:15

I've got a fairly standard name - think Jane/Sue/Rebecca type name.

I'd love to be something exotic - Sigrid, Imelda, Emmeline. I like a pp's suggestion of Elle too.

Stillamum3 · 17/01/2021 02:24

I'd like to be Dorcas - unusual but traditional

TiredAndGrumpy85 · 17/01/2021 02:56

I heard that women with men's names have more successful careers, especially if they are unmistakably men's names (rather than something neutral like Sam/Max/Alex).

I'd quite like to be Humphrey or Howard.

TiredAndGrumpy85 · 17/01/2021 02:57

Or Geoffrey maybe. I quite like that.

palmstar · 17/01/2021 03:10

I'm known as Lizzie but named Elizabeth. I'd like to be known as Elizabeth as I think it's a beautiful name. Lizzie is bleugh at my age.

Groundhog1 · 17/01/2021 03:56

Olivia, Ellie or Lucy

FiveShelties · 17/01/2021 04:03

I also would change to Anastasia, I think I am the third to pick that nameGrin

I wanted to call my Sheltie Anastasia, but my husband couldn't picture himself shouting that on the beach to get her to come back. Probably as well as she is selectively deaf so that would have been a lot of shouting.

SheldonesqueIsUnwell · 17/01/2021 04:05

Seren
Grace

Gilead · 17/01/2021 05:23

My name is here, I hate it!
I was often called Sophia as a child and teenager, I’d go with that!

CandyLeBonBon · 17/01/2021 05:35

@katesaregreat

Ooh Cleo is great! I want that one

The closest I got was naming my cat Cleo, unfortunately. Still she's very cute and she rocks it! Grin

Haha I named my dog Cleo!
