If name changing were as easy in real life as on MN? I can't decide myself but my dd chose Avery. What would you choose and why?

Agatha. Nickname Aggie.

I'd just think of that Bugzy Malone song "Aggy Wid It" Grin

I think about this way too much!

My name is Lucy and I feel like I have the name of a five year old...

I LOVE the name Lucy, it's so ethereal!

hiptobeasquare · 16/01/2021 19:51

@ncbby Grin

Definitely Kate.

Or Molly. I nearly was one (after DM’s mum whom I never met). Would have been very unusual at the time.

carlaCox · 16/01/2021 19:52

I think I'd probably go for Cleo, or Diane. I like strong names.

Ooh Cleo is great! I want that one

The closest I got was naming my cat Cleo, unfortunately. Still she's very cute and she rocks it! Grin

Jane or Janey, I'm sure either would refer to the other eventually anyway.

I don't mind my name, but it's one that people shorten quickly and it really annoys me, especially if it's in a professional capacity.

Pebbledashery · 16/01/2021 19:56

I'd like to call myself Dionne or Dominique. I love those names.

niceupthedance · 16/01/2021 20:04

Mercedes nn Mercy or Sadie 😈

CormoranStrike · 16/01/2021 20:14

I like Orla, though as a child I wanted to be called John Grin

DS changed his name at 23 years old!

I'd like to try a male sounding name. All the research and anecdotal evidence of women being treated less favourably when it's just a name on an email signature makes me want to adopt a male sounding nickname for work.

I've got a male name.

When they find out I'm a woman they are evoked to shit. And yes, how they speak to me and treat me changes.

Professionally and with medical care etc. It's terrible.

WankPuffins · 16/01/2021 20:43

*shocked to shit. Not evoked. Bloody phone

Gurufloof · 16/01/2021 20:48

Having thought a lot about changing my name, I hate my name so no shock. but i have an extensive list

Top of my list Anastasia. But its so very different to my actual name i may struggle.

Others to be considered or used as middle names

Benoite
Rochelle
Honourine
Gabrielle
Reagan
Quinn.

I'm old now and still never changed my name, wish I had.

whatnow41 · 16/01/2021 20:49

@WankPuffins exactly! But is it worse to feel the difference when you are known to be female and knowingly treated differently, whilst getting male privilege the rest of the time; or is remaining obviously female and being consistently treated as a lesser person easier overall?

Should I live in 'ignorance' and be happier never experiencing the male privilege?! Or will it wind me up so much to get the female treatment that I lose my shit every 10 minutes!! Grin

Serena1977 · 16/01/2021 20:54

Serena hence my username so I'm Serena here but I actually don't mind my real name.

Dh hates his name and I do a little bit. He always wanted to be Matthew.

midsomermurderess · 16/01/2021 21:00

I'm happy with my first name. I might consider changing my last name to Halliday.

LiJo2015 · 16/01/2021 21:11

Vivienne

BillywigSting · 16/01/2021 21:12

I love the name Lucy, one of the best women I know is called Lucy and she is just so on the ball and properly lovely she's brilliant.

I quite like my name and love how it gets shortened by most people. If I could choose a new name for myself though I think I'd pick francesca, nn Frankie.

Though according to my slightly woo dm I picked my own name because she had a dream that an unborn baby (like in the music video for teardrop by massive attack) introduced itself to her as my name. Her and my df apparently couldn't agree on a girl's name before this, and in the morning she recounted the strange dream to him and so that is my name. This was in the early 90s before the sex of a baby could be found out before they are born. I doubt she would have remembered such a dream if I had been born a boy mind you.

LiJo2015 · 16/01/2021 21:13

@whenever i go to atarbucks - i give mu name as Vivienne 😎

luckylavender · 16/01/2021 21:14

Lucy

Retrievemysanity · 16/01/2021 21:17

I met a lady years ago called Melody and when she married her surname was Nightingale. I’ve always thought Melody Nightingale is the best name ever!

MorvaanReed · 16/01/2021 21:22

LiJo2015 me too. If I look in the mirror I can definitely see a Viv.

FreeChuro · 16/01/2021 21:24

My name is very uncommon but I quite like it, I never use my full first name but go by a shortened name which most people think is short for something else.

I wouldn't change it but if I did I think I would go for Ingrid as it sounds really strong.
