If name changing were as easy in real life as on MN? I can't decide myself but my dd chose Avery. What would you choose and why?

OP posts:
Agapinkus · 16/01/2021 21:25

Vivienne.

I have a common name for my age, love it on others but hate it on me. I grew up in a small rural Irish town and had a neighbour called Vivienne who was a few years older than me (probably about 53 now), oh to be blessed with such sophistication from the get go!

AnnaSW1 · 16/01/2021 21:28

I'd choose my actual name. I really love it

Agapinkus · 16/01/2021 21:29

Snap LiJo

My dh has one of the current top boys names (he is 55) which was very unusual when he was growing up, and he just wanted to be called John!

No pleasing people!

JMAngel1 · 16/01/2021 21:34

I love my name as long as no one tries to shorten it - it's French and very feminine.
I do love Lydia or Vivienne though
Also love Saskia but don't think I could pull it off

JMAngel1 · 16/01/2021 21:36

God just seen there's quite a few Viviennes - I'm in good company here.

wellthatsunusual · 16/01/2021 21:36

I like my name, I don't think I'd change it. I hated it when I was younger, I wanted to be called something more common.

Maybe now if I was changing it I'd choose something simple, a bit old fashioned but classic. Ruth or Edith or something.

ShrimpSymphonyofSeasonalSongs · 16/01/2021 21:36

Eve

Bloodhoundgang · 16/01/2021 21:37

I love my name too. Gets some interesting pronunciations from time to time but I wouldn't change it. Goes very well with my maiden name which I use.

jambeforeclottedcream · 16/01/2021 21:40

My parents almost called me Charlotte or Imogen. Sometimes think I'd prefer either of those to the name I was actually given

FelicityPike · 16/01/2021 21:41

Felicity 🙂 I think it’s very elegant & graceful (which I most certainly am not).

Ultimateblends · 16/01/2021 21:41

Ohhh another vote for Lucy here - I believe my father wanted to call me Lucy.

I dont love or hate my birth name. Have depolled my last name recently, and have considered changing my birth name!

But I cant imagine saying to people who already know me "im not ultimateblends anymore, call me lucy"

Does that even work?!

Ultimateblends · 16/01/2021 21:41

*deed poll

YellowandGreenToBeSeen · 16/01/2021 21:43

Susannah. With A’s and the ‘h’. I think it’s a beautiful, timeless name.

GrannyWeatherwaxsBroomstick · 16/01/2021 21:44

I would like to be a Susan. It sounds like someone you don’t mess with to me. 😁

DukeOfEarlGrey · 16/01/2021 21:45

Ive also ways fancied a name that lets me ‘pretend’ to be male on eg work emails to new people, appointments etc. I fancy Georgina/George

HelloDulling · 16/01/2021 21:45

Zoe.

rosyvalentine · 16/01/2021 21:48

I don't know what I'd change my name to nowadays but as a child, I aways wanted to be called Christabel Grin

elQuintoConyo · 16/01/2021 21:49

Maribel Winterpark.

I'd go the whole hog and change both.

My first name was popular in the late 70s/early 80s but it's fairly classic (Biblical). My surname is constantly misspelt and mispronounced Angry I could have changed to DH's surname, but it's a comedy name so eff that!

CamdenLurker · 16/01/2021 21:53

Joanna.

Growing up I always wished my name was Natalie, not because I like it particularly but because I think I look like a Natalie.

Wildswim · 16/01/2021 21:55

I see Kate is really popular on this thread but I prefer Catherine or even Cathy (a la Wuthering Heights). It's always been a romantic name to me.

I also like Rhia - I knew one many years ago at school and have never met another one.

Glenorma · 16/01/2021 21:58

Joanna nn Jo. It’s a bit posher than my real name which makes me sound like a stripper. Feels dishonourable to my parents to change it though.

Literallynoidea · 16/01/2021 22:03

I live my name. It's strong and it suits me. But if I had to change then maybe I'd go for Alice.

dayswithaY · 16/01/2021 22:11

I'd love to be Saffron, Sasha, Tara or Della. No idea why, just like them.

It's quite odd, changing your name as an adult. I once worked with a girl called Tracey. I left the company and bumped into her and said

"Hi Tracey"

She said

"Actually it's Lauren now, I changed my name by deed poll."

I just thought, hmm my brain still thinks you're Tracey. Good luck with that.

formerbabe · 16/01/2021 22:13

Some of these suggestions are so dull...Kate and Laura Confused

I'd go for it and call myself Beyonce or Madonna

goldentulip · 16/01/2021 22:14

Marianne ... I have a very common name for my generation. I wish I had a more unusual name.
