The latest corporate bullshit term I've noticed starting to increase

A year ago people used to want meeting 'minutes' or 'notes' .
As of about six months ago I started to hear the term 'meeting read out' and it's on the increase.

OP thank you for the warning as it has not reached me yet. I agree about silly words and expressions.

Iamanunsafebuilding · 16/01/2021 08:17

The one that's gathering pace where I work is 'deep dive' - so instead of 'at next week's meeting June will explain the changes to the system' it's 'look forward to a deep dive into the HR space'. Deep dive seems to equal look in detail!

KatherineJaneway · 16/01/2021 08:19

Never heard that term. Hope I don't in my workplace either!

StealthPolarBear · 16/01/2021 08:39

Ah we've had deep dives for a couple of years. They mean 'really long slide packs' where we are.
That's not a deep dive!

I've noticed an unfortunate rise in the verb "cascade" in my workplace; ie, "please can you cascade this information to your team."

I hate it.

Hoppinggreen · 16/01/2021 09:54

Everyone I know is “pivoting their business”

Cecily42 · 16/01/2021 09:55

Currently I hate “low hanging fruit”

nitgel · 16/01/2021 10:00

Does anyone send memos anymore, or shall I go back to 1987

nitgel · 16/01/2021 10:01

I hope 'drill down' is slowly being unused

umpteennamechanges · 16/01/2021 10:02

@nitgel

I hope 'drill down' is slowly being unused
That's been replaced by deep dive!
SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 16/01/2021 10:14

I’ve been a journalist for 25 years and “presser” has been in use for the entire time. It may be more an American media thing, though. Same with “staffer”.

SomethingNastyInTheBallPool · 16/01/2021 10:14

Also, deep dives have been a thing in US journalism for ages.

MrsRockAndRoll · 16/01/2021 10:28

Deep dive
Cascade
Meets - instead of meetings
Low hanging fruit
Publish (share on Teams)
Upstream
COVID secure environment
Digital geography landscape (my living room as I don't have a home office)
Pivot
Lean in
Trajectory
Ping

I'm always shocked if I can get through a meeting without all the above being used

Cecily42 · 16/01/2021 10:43

Yeah I have to do a deep dive next week so I can provide a post mortem to my boss by end of play Friday.

We don’t send anything anymore. We reach out!

dementedma · 16/01/2021 10:46

"Sighted/unsighted" and "space" very common in my world. Also "takeaways", "back briefs", and "bluf"

Barmbraic · 16/01/2021 12:15

My boss keeps asking me where I see potential pinch points during the year. I'm not sure he's talking about my trousers + covid pudge.

PlanetMJ · 16/01/2021 12:34

We get this shite where I am. Recently everyone is expected to be "in the detail". But my favourite is one DH came out if an online meeting laughing about. Someone said "Susan, you have a hand raised do you have a question?" Susan replied "oh sorry, no. Its just a legacy hand from before".

LEGACY HAND FFS.

x2boys · 16/01/2021 12:39

Ah these make me laugh ,Cascade has been around a while ,we were cascading information when I worked in the NHS over six years ago ,We also used to escalate things Ie tell a manager Grin
Does everyone still end emails with ,Kind regards?

ginandbearit · 16/01/2021 12:40

'At pace' ..well yes we all want to get things done as efficiently and quickly as poss but 'at pace' suggests a go getting super achiever no time for wasters type who inevitably causes more problems than they solve .

x2boys · 16/01/2021 12:43

One I have noticed a lot recently though is Transition ,kids don't just move up to high school these days they Transition and Transition between class,s ,my son is at a special school and is due to " transition to a special needs high school in September " so it's something I hear a lot

StealthPolarBear · 16/01/2021 12:44

What on earth is bluf?

I'm afraid legacy hand is so widely used now it doesn't even raise an eyebrow

OP posts:
dementedma · 16/01/2021 12:46

Bluf is Bottom Line Up Front. As in cut to the chase and tell me in one line what this fucking report is about so I can decide whether or not it’s worth reading.
It’s quite handy really - and military.

notacooldad · 16/01/2021 12:46

My favourite one.
"Are you picking up what I'm putting down?"

Nobody was sure if it was meant metaphorically or literally!
😂😂😂

Tazers · 16/01/2021 12:49

Not heard that one yet. Reach out and share with tend to piss me off as they are usually said by cold calling recruitment consultants. As in:

Recruiter who I've never spoken to before "I'm reaching out so you can share your recruitment plans with me".

Why on earth am I going to hand over confidential HR info to any old random cold caller?

Tazers · 16/01/2021 12:52

Everyone I know is “pivoting their business”

Are they all being disruptive as well?
