What boring shit have you been excited about in lockdown?

I have a sinus infection and have antibiotics for it. I always get thrush despite trying probiotics and yakault. Anyway so I'm going to have to go out to buy a thrush treatment.

I'm just thinking to myself I'm actually excited to leave the house and buy a thrush treatment. Just wondering what really sad stuff other people have got excited about in lockdown which might otherwise be mundane.

I bought an electric throw.

That's all.

BlowDryRat · 15/01/2021 21:10

I successfully retrieved an unopened bag of Minstrels from under the built-in fridge freezer this morning. I was well chuffed with myself. I'd accidentally dropped them down the ventilation hole on top of the cupboard where I was hiding them from the DCs and thought I wouldn't be able to replace them until next Friday's Sainsbury's delivery.

During first lockdown we had a power cut. Turns out a house down the street was a weed farm and had blown the electrics in the whole street. At 7am the police arrived to raid the house, cops everywhere, pulling apart a van outside my house looking for evidence. Huge excitement with all the neighbours out in their drives watching it all and having a chat. One neighbour brought up a petrol generator and we all plugged in our kettles and made tea. Was brilliant craic. Everyone was giddy with excitement at seeing each other for the first time in weeks.

Was the highlight of lockdown by miles!

Trip to Waitrose for elderly parents ‘essentials’ so treat bits and the Waitrose Weekend newspaper for me! 👊🏻

The postman gave us a parcel which was meant for a different local road. It was hidden in a bundle of our parcels. This meant baby and I had to go on a mission to return it to its rightful owners.

Yesterday: finding an out-of-date packet of Hotel Chocolat chocolates.

Today: going in the car with DH to Halfords in the next county to buy some car touch-up paint not even for an actual car, so not essential at all . We then went for a possibly-illegal walk.

Living on the edge, that's me.

SaigonSaigon · 15/01/2021 21:34

This thread has made me laugh.

The whole family went out in the car last Saturday to buy a sack of potatoes from a farm shop. It was slightly exciting. This is what my life has come to right now ...

RoseMartha · 15/01/2021 21:35

To have a walk without the dc moaning it is too far after five minutes. I only walked for about 50 minutes as it was freezing. I also decided that as my fingers were numb with cold with gloves on, I needed a better pair. And ordered some when I got indoors.

Chutneymaura · 15/01/2021 21:37

Today, I worked at DH’s desk upstairs because my office was freezing. I felt like I was on a site visit, it was brilliant

Serena1977 · 15/01/2021 21:37

I get so excited when the DC have a teams meet for school. So great to see other humans!

I squeegeed the stair carpet, and made everyone come and look at the ball of dirtfluff and took a picture of it.

Fairydustrust · 15/01/2021 22:39

Oh, I have oiled the wooden dining table. Was looking so much better. Dh came to see the excitement, then we both watched it dry....

Whichname98 · 16/01/2021 03:12

Using a new fabric conditioner that came with my Morrisons delivery this morning

@RoseMartha what gloves did you go for? I too have returned from walks with freezing hands despite wearing gloves and also having to listen to DC complaining about it being too far
LunaNorth · 16/01/2021 04:04

This weekend is going to be immense.

Saturday I’m cleaning the stair carpet with my new Bissell carpet cleaner.

I’ve been saving that job, but the time has come.

I’m buzzing.

Clevererthanyou · 16/01/2021 04:13

Ooh I'm torn between replacing my old grey kettle with a brand spanking new... Grey hot water dispenser Hmm (why is everything grey?).
Or the thrilling visit I made to a different Spar store because they have a new line of "natural" products! I actually sent a message to DH to tell him about this new line of products not currently available in our local branch Hmm

I’m getting a radiator moved. This will need a thorough clean out of the room and a spring clean! Smile

JustAnotherUserinParadise · 16/01/2021 05:02

My chiropractor appointment was cancelled yesterday, I was so disappointed! (pregnant and struggling with back pain and pgp). But... I did think "at least it was a trip out" lol... To stand outside for 5 minutes and then get sent home!

Saw a mouse in the garage yesterday, considered putting traps out (or at least putting the chicken food in a mouse-proof container) but it was cute...

We now get a fruit box from DHs work delivered every month - he doesn't really eat fruit so it's basically just for me! I don't even wait for him to open it anymore!

hamstersarse · 16/01/2021 05:37

I bought an ‘occasional chair’ to go in my new wfh office. With a footstool.

Now, in the daytime, in between the avalanche of Teams calls, I ‘occasionally’ step away from my desk, walk 1m across the room, and sit on my new chair and put my feet up.

This activity and very slight change of perspective in my very small home office, brings daily excitement.

MinnieMountain · 16/01/2021 06:56

Getting my medication every month from Boots.

@halfpasteleven DH and DS swear by Hestra gloves.

halfpasteleven · 16/01/2021 07:49

Thank you @MinnieMountain! I will look those up.

FreeFallingFree · 16/01/2021 08:33

I agree my hygienist's appointment was like a proper day out. I got to go inside a different building and have a sit down and chat with a new person. She was very nice and gentle, which was a bonus.

This week I bought a new kettle as my old one cooked out and blew all the fuses. It boils a lot faster than my old one, and I have a pleased 'this is a much better kettle' moment every time I make a cup of tea.

Today's excitement is I'm going to walk to a further and different supermarket. And possibly have an illicit takeaway coffee. Very envious of those of you who have had tree surgeons to watch. During first lockdown I lived near an urban farm and 'standing on pavement looking at llamas' was a weekly highlight.

LadyOfTheCanyon · 16/01/2021 10:08

During lockdown 1 on one of our walks, DH and I saw a tree that had been earmarked for felling. It had a note on it to say which day this was due to happen. We made a note of the day and then went back to inspect the stump ( we were hoping to catch the loppers in the act, but it turns out that was too much to hope for.) Funniest thing was passing another couple on the way back who said "oo, have you come to look at the tree as well?"
