I had a brilliant time at the dentist
We have to enter by the backway now which is up the fire escape; never realised that as you just step in to the main entrance from the street.
Anyway, I'd rung the bell on the exact time - as instructed - of my appointment when a man appeared. He stood on the stairs and we had a bit of a shouty chat until the door was answered. Talking to someone who's not DH! Felt like I'd been to a cocktail party.
Once of the nurses opened the door and asked us to move back... further... bit more...
By now, I'm back at the top of the steps and the other patient is most of the way down.
At the "bit more...", we flattened ourselves against the wall, a bit puzzled.
It turned out that a mother with two children and a pram needed to use the lift by the fire escape (no idea why they're not allowed to use the front door; most places I've seen have separate "in" and "out" doors).
So the lady entered the lift with the baby in the pushchair and an older child and pressed the button for the lift.
I've never seen anything so slow in my life!
Other patient and I were still flattened against the wall as if guns were trained on us while the lift inched (millimetred!) its way down.
Eventually, when the mother's legs had just about disappeared (poor thing kept apologising) , the nurse who'd greeted us, briskly gestured us to come in, as even she couldn't wait for total social distancing to be achieved.
I'm afraid I found it mildly hysterical, while realising it actually wasn't that funny.
It's obviously like that when you don't get out much.
The other excitement was chatting to the dentist who sensibly wore a mask with a respirator, topped with a plastic visor over which she had a disposable blue mask.
The trouble was that it rendered her utterly unintelligible.
Eventually I worked out that one of her questions was "How many units of alcohol do you drink a week?".
"Well, on average four to five..."
She reeled back, horrified. She must post on MN I thought.
Then the penny dropped.
"Not 45!" I yelped.
All went well after that but it was the most thrilling afternoon in a long time.
