What boring shit have you been excited about in lockdown?

I have a sinus infection and have antibiotics for it. I always get thrush despite trying probiotics and yakault. Anyway so I'm going to have to go out to buy a thrush treatment.

I'm just thinking to myself I'm actually excited to leave the house and buy a thrush treatment. Just wondering what really sad stuff other people have got excited about in lockdown which might otherwise be mundane.

I got a delivery yesterday of my elvie pelvic floor trainer! I've been thinking about getting one for ages and eventually decide to splash out. Very excited! Really hope it helps. I don't have children but had started to feel I needed the toilet with a lot of urgency.

Only just read to page 3, but our boiler broke a few weeks ago. Landlord sends his very nice boiler bloke out, DP and I invite him to play our game of cluedo with us, and offer him a range of alcoholic and none alcoholic beverages...

Then spend about 30 minutes acting VERY interested in the inner workings of the boiler.

Hes due back next Thursday and im thinking of offering him a full dinner Grin

Just so exciting to have a 'guest' Grin

Supermarket food delivery

MutteringDarkly · 21/01/2021 18:42

MOT completed with a discussion about brake pads that I prolonged as much as possible until the poor mechanic was starting to look a bit wild eyed like he'd been collared by one of his mum's friends

I need something else to look forward to now. It's a bit early for the boiler service technically but it wouldn't hurt to book ahead would it...

When I went down to make coffee this morning I discovered that a gazebo had appeared in my garden. A few hours later my Miss Marple efforts paid off and I'd identified the owner. Said gazebo has now been retrieved from garden by neighbour. The most exciting thing to happen for a good few months.

My sons tamagotchi grew up today into one we’ve not had before. The whole family got excited.

namemychange · 21/01/2021 20:32

I find myself getting excited by new shower gel and hand wash scents. Seriously.

Janedownourlane · 21/01/2021 20:36

Seed potatoes arrived for the allotment today. I spent a very happy hour arranging them in egg boxes to start chitting.

FoofOfTheWalkingDead · 21/01/2021 23:47

I had to go to the shopping centre with the big sainsburys that also has a Holland and Barrett because I needed to buy special bread. I was so excited I even put makeup on. To go to a mostly empty mall.

mogloveseggs · 22/01/2021 08:18

I'm going to the opticians today!

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 22/01/2021 08:51

I finished my book just as my alarm went off.

A cat walked down the street! Down the street, I tell you!

So excited about my weekend plans cause I do have to go out to my essential work every day Monday to Friday. Eye test tomorrow followed by getting a COVID vaccine ( job related but not NHS) I’m going to visit a supermarket near to the vaccine place rather than the one nearest to us which is the one my DH does our usual shopping in. I’ve not been in a supermarket for weeks I’m so excited. I’m going to buy treats for myself and I’ve even sorted out my favourite pyjamas and fluffy socks ready to lie languidly on the sofa in case I have a sore arm and feel a bit headachy after the jab. How has it come to this that I would welcome feeling a bit poorly and really spoiling myself.

BarbaraofSeville · 22/01/2021 15:12

The new tea towels that we've just bought already have hooks sewn into them. I found that very pleasing when I discovered that. I can't decide if that's a sign that I'm getting old, or it's due to lockdown fever.

Also, now I've posted on this thread, it will appear on TIO and I can come back to read it properly over a nice G&T later this evening .

I had a brilliant time at the dentist Smile

We have to enter by the backway now which is up the fire escape; never realised that as you just step in to the main entrance from the street.

Anyway, I'd rung the bell on the exact time - as instructed - of my appointment when a man appeared. He stood on the stairs and we had a bit of a shouty chat until the door was answered. Talking to someone who's not DH! Felt like I'd been to a cocktail party.

Once of the nurses opened the door and asked us to move back... further... bit more...
By now, I'm back at the top of the steps and the other patient is most of the way down.
At the "bit more...", we flattened ourselves against the wall, a bit puzzled.
It turned out that a mother with two children and a pram needed to use the lift by the fire escape (no idea why they're not allowed to use the front door; most places I've seen have separate "in" and "out" doors).

So the lady entered the lift with the baby in the pushchair and an older child and pressed the button for the lift.
I've never seen anything so slow in my life!

Other patient and I were still flattened against the wall as if guns were trained on us while the lift inched (millimetred!) its way down.

Eventually, when the mother's legs had just about disappeared (poor thing kept apologising) , the nurse who'd greeted us, briskly gestured us to come in, as even she couldn't wait for total social distancing to be achieved.
I'm afraid I found it mildly hysterical, while realising it actually wasn't that funny.
It's obviously like that when you don't get out much.

The other excitement was chatting to the dentist who sensibly wore a mask with a respirator, topped with a plastic visor over which she had a disposable blue mask.
The trouble was that it rendered her utterly unintelligible.
Eventually I worked out that one of her questions was "How many units of alcohol do you drink a week?".
"Well, on average four to five..."

She reeled back, horrified. She must post on MN I thought.
Then the penny dropped.
"Not 45!" I yelped.

All went well after that but it was the most thrilling afternoon in a long time.

Just bought a wireless Bluetooth keyboard for my iPad, and it gets delivered tomorrow on Prime.
Can’t honestly wait.....

thenewduchessofhastings · 22/01/2021 15:30

My kid has covid so literally under house arrest.

The highlight of my week is discovering the pet store delivers orders over £20;my dogs are on raw food that we use to only be able to buy from a farm half an hour away.

Then a pet store 15 minutes from us started stocking it from the farm so we get it from there now however discovering they now deliver is actually really helpful plus my DH banned me from going to the farm with him after I came home with dog food and 2 kittens........

Bloodhoundgang · 22/01/2021 15:43

@LaMarschallin am dead jealous of your dental trip today. Other than the fact I had to almost skate there it was very uneventful.
@Plussizejumpsuit the squeegying of carpets is revolutionary. DH and I have one each now and take great joy in removing hair then vaccuming. As soon as the carpet cleaner arrives I think we may be unable to handle the excitement 🤣

Can I add that our jobs mean nothing has changed, we are infact busier than ever, and have homeschooling etc so it isn't like we are stuck for stuff to do, but I think rejuvenating carpet may be the new going out😂😂😂

Poppet17 · 22/01/2021 16:01

DH is away this week so the house has stayed relatively tidy (well as much as it can with a 15 month old) so I’ve spent nap time batch cooking so meals will be easy when I start my new role next month.

juliainthedeepwater · 22/01/2021 16:04

Had to go for my smear a couple of weeks ago and it was a genuine treat to do something different and have some me-time.

Holothane · 22/01/2021 16:11

My hospital trips me happy and interested.

goingtosaygoodbye · 22/01/2021 16:17

On my way to pick up my click and collect order I saw a snowy owl, to be fair I would always be excited by that. We also saw a fox, which my DD thought was a polecat at first!

It was the chatty American who brought the groceries out today. He has huskies and had to go into his security job to fix a broken window in -3 temperatures after he finished his shift. He feels like one of my closest confidants now.

Splash out, eh?

Not for much longer, hopefully Grin
