What boring shit have you been excited about in lockdown?

I have a sinus infection and have antibiotics for it. I always get thrush despite trying probiotics and yakault. Anyway so I'm going to have to go out to buy a thrush treatment.

I'm just thinking to myself I'm actually excited to leave the house and buy a thrush treatment. Just wondering what really sad stuff other people have got excited about in lockdown which might otherwise be mundane.

Happy Mk Birthday MsRinky, I filmed our only starship visit and we had a great time watching one negotiate an overpass 😂

Hoppinggreen · 17/01/2021 20:31

We use a virtual office for our business but we usually wfh
The manager has emailed me to ask me to go and empty our mailbox as he can’t get anything else in.
I’m quite excited

In the last lockdown we had some emergency electrical work that needed to be done and I was ridiculously excited to have someone Not Us in the house. The bemused electrician was greeted like a long lost cousin and we spoke fondly of the visit for days after...

mogloveseggs · 17/01/2021 20:49

Those starships are great!

Well tomorrow is so busy, a trip to boots, specsavers, the poundshop and the post office is required.

Plussizejumpsuit · 17/01/2021 21:14

I've discovered m&s do vegan marshmallows. I'm vegetarian but they are normally not suitable as they have gelatin in. So I've been having hot choc with toasted marshmallows for pudding. (yes I've got a blow torch)

In future news, I'm 60 this week and I've got a prescription to pick up. I've worked out I've got enough tablets to last until my birthday, then when I pick up the tablets I get them for free! So excited!

Bloodhoundgang · 17/01/2021 21:22

Thank you @LunaNorth I am very excited about cleaning up a coffee stain🤣

username888765 · 17/01/2021 21:23

I just cleaned the glass on the over door. I was kind of excited about it. I also bought an oven liner that I was excited about too.

I'm not so excited about my vague plans to clean out the cupboards.

LunaNorth · 17/01/2021 21:23

@Bloodhoundgang

Thank you *@LunaNorth* I am very excited about cleaning up a coffee stain🤣
I’ve had a lovely weekend cleaning anything that doesn’t move about. Sooo satisfying.

We drew and played pin the tail on the donkey, just because. We had to have a rematch, because on the first round, two people got it in exactly the right place - they must have been peeping! This didn't happen on the second round, when I was in charge of the blindfolding. Smile

Gingerkittykat · 17/01/2021 21:35

Having no laundry to do since I'm wearing pyjamas so often!

I had a GP appointment where I sat face to face with a person, had my belly prodded and then had a blood test. I need another blood test so get to go and sit in the waiting room with their crap music for a few minutes.

Before Christmas, I discovered if you get to the shops before opening time they are a couple of people queuing but they are almost empty for the first 30 to 40 minutes. Me and DD had a great time in the new Lidl looking at the German biscuits and stuff pretending we were at the Christmas market in Edinburgh.

TawnyPippit · 17/01/2021 21:59

So my teen DS has periodically had problems with his ears and wax. Last week he said he could only hear at about 25% plus they were quite painful. We found online an ear suction place and got a same day appointment. I drove him over but had to go for a walk while he was being seen to. It was an area of London i did not really know and a 30 minute stroll felt like a weekend city break in a new country, I was giddy with excitement looking into closed shops.

DS reported that they had to use 3 levels of suction with him, ending up with something pretty much the same size and shape as our handheld Dyson cordless. He said the guy doing it said it was the worst he has done . DS said that the wax extracted was about the same size and shape as a cocktail sausage Shock

WHAT an afternoon!! We were beside ourselves. Had to WhatsApp both sets of grandparents about the wax volume.

Wildswim · 17/01/2021 22:26

Taking DCs to opticians last week for a check up. And DD got a new prescription and chose new frames - which will necessitate a visit next week to collect them. Chatting to the optician was so exciting.

Re-watching Bleak House on BBC iplayer. Kept me going for a good few days. Every bit as wonderful as it was when I first watched it 20-odd years ago.

FancySomeChips · 17/01/2021 22:51

Today my phone map recognised a bridle path it hadn’t done previously. Ran to tell rather unimpressed teenage dc who was mid English essay and then sent the screen shot to 3 of my friends who were amazed!

Tomorrow I am going to put toothpaste on my car headlights to try to clear some of the foggyness. On Tuesday I am going to clean the washing machine powder drawer thing.
Pacing the exciting jobs out through the week so as not to be overwhelmed!

Grin Grin 'spoke fondly of the visit' has me giggling

Gottaloveacardie · 18/01/2021 08:25

@TawnyPippit superb earwax story

TawnyPippit · 18/01/2021 09:43

I know! It was like a cross between a city break and a visit to Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Very heady excitement in these dreary times!

LaBellina · 18/01/2021 10:33
@LaBellina ooh do you work in museums? I do!
That sounds great! I do absolutely love museums but unfortunately do not work there. Museum Selection is a very nice webshop full of granny like things such as replicas of Victorian earrings etc. I love these kind of things ! I think I might order this beautiful Victorian style trinket box. There is no such thing as having too many trinket boxes Grin

What boring shit have you been excited about in lockdown?
Plussizejumpsuit · 18/01/2021 11:08

@LaBellina oh OK it sounded like a trade magazine!! Love it though this is so cute. Lovey to hear you love museums too. I feel very lucky to do what I do. But also worked redic hard to get into the sector. But yeah I do enjoy it.

The ear was story was great, @TawnyPippit I live how ds was proud! I would be too!

In other exiting news I'm going to the tip today. Its odd and even number plates so my go is today. Its not an appointment system like some places and there can be a queue. Might take a drink and snack to have while waiting. Like a proper trip out!

Next door but one are having building work done in the garden. Today, DD (4 years) and I stood at the window and watched a flat bed truck, WITH IT'S OWN CRANE on the back, lift pallets of breeze blocks from the truck up onto the raised front garden.

It did this 4 times. We watched it all. It was most exciting.

Back to homeschooling...

Cakefordinner · 18/01/2021 12:05

Our neighbour is re-turfing their lawn. We are enjoying watching progress. Genuinely excited to see if they put in a new flower bed.
Love this thread!

Plussizejumpsuit · 18/01/2021 12:08

All sounding very exciting!
Unfortunately there was no queue at the tip. I'd even taken chocolate! But I've just listened to the shipping forecast on radio 4. Waited in the car for it to finish. Took a moment to think of the windy rainy bits of sea which feel very far away right now.

Darklingthrush · 18/01/2021 12:09

We are currently particularly enjoying spotting our neighbours' Christmas trees that are still up and tut-tutting that they haven't taken them down yet although we only took ours down yesterday.

brunetteonthebus · 18/01/2021 12:17

I had to go and drop my child's book bag at her school so they can quarantine the books for a few days, put new ones in and we can collect them later this week.

Two trips out! TWO I TELL YOU!

brunetteonthebus · 18/01/2021 12:20

And, to add to my excitement when I went to school to drop the book bag I took a bag of crisps and a coffee in a thermos cup and had them in peace in the car park where there was no one to see me or pester me for some or climb on me or shout 'Mummyyyyyyyyyyy!!!'

Bliss
