Be honest... do you think being a size 10 is more attractive than a size 14?

Just that... no offence intended it's just to settle an argument I'm interested in people's views. Let's say specifically you have an average / reasonably attractive looking woman of average height, do you think she will look better as a size 10 than she does a 14?

100% yes. I look better slimmer, and I don’t know anyone who doesn’t. I also feel better (I am an 8 - 10, but have been bigger), and being confident helps with attractiveness.

TiredUselessHopeless · 15/01/2021 13:52

This thread really highlights so many women’s sense of self image and self worth. I think we are all guilty of being our own worst enemies at time. We are also guilty of being victim to media, diet culture and pressure from other women, who are constantly striving for “perfection.”

An attractive person, is attractive at any size. The size of your body doesn’t make you “ugly”. Just enjoy life and look after yourself.

This is like saying is someone who has severe disfigurements less attractive than someone who doesn’t?

A size 14 isn’t massive, and a size 10 isn’t a stick insect. Both are generally lovely normal sizes. There are definitely factors for individuals (as I said earlier!) two dress sizes isn’t a huge number.

BearSoFair · 15/01/2021 13:55

I don't. I'm a 10 at the moment after a run of bad IBS flares and to me, I look unwell. I'm usually a size 12 but 100% feel I look better as a 14 than as a 10.

whoamongstus · 15/01/2021 13:59

It really depends.

Generally my taste in women, like my love of dad bods in men, tends towards more of a size 14 than a 10. I prefer myself a size 14 - when I was thinner I didn't like the way clothes looked on me.

But some people certainly look better slimmer.

I disagree. An attractive person is not 'attractive at any size'. If they are attractive, it will be because they are attractive when they are a size that suits them. If they were to gain 40kg or lose 40kg it is very unlikely that they would still be attractive. NO ONE is generally considered attractive when they are skinny to the point of near death and NO ONE is generally considered attractive when they are significantly morbidly obese. There may be people with particular proclivities who are attracted to these people but I don't think that is what you are suggesting. You are suggesting that an attractive person will be attractive at any size. And that is just not true.

Totally agree. I dont find pro anorexia photos "attractive" and equally I dont find people who are morbidly obese "attractive" because both of those sizes come with significant health implications and it shows in their appearance that it isnt a healthy state to be in.

I preferred myself as a size 10 however, after I had put on some weight again my ex said he preferred me with some weight. That's when I was a 12. I'm now a 14 and I would really like to lose a dress size.

TiredUselessHopeless · 16/01/2021 17:00

But I wasn’t talking about being on the brink of death though was I? Why do people insist on deliberately missing the point?

regardless, its simply not true to say that people are attractive "at any weight". Its just not true. Sorry.

Miseryl · 16/01/2021 17:53

I'm 5'5" and a size 12-14 and have a BMI of 25. It isn't always massively overweight on shorter people.

Almostslimjim · 16/01/2021 17:57

An attractive person is not 'attractive at any size'.

Nope. I'm not bragging, but I'm attractive at an 8-12. Above that and my shape goes, my face becomes puffy and rounded, my features meld together. Unfortunately I'm currently above that.

sofiaaaaaa · 16/01/2021 18:05

An attractive person is attractive partly because they’re conventionally attractive, so once they move further away from being conventionally attractive they start to become less attractive. For some people, a shift in weight is all it takes.

waydownwego · 16/01/2021 18:09

It's not about size, or weight... it's about... well, lumpiness.

If you have one stomach (a D stomach), you can look good at a size 14. You'll look curvy rather than lumpy.

If, however, like most women, you have two stomachs (a B stomach), you'll look better at a 10 because a smaller dress size will minimise the lumpiness.

Lumpiness and height are both down to genetics; you can't control either. Which is deeply frustrating as they make the most difference to how the weight looks at any size!

gottakeeponmovin · 16/01/2021 18:17

I do think it's a lot about the stomach. If your stomach is flat you can look good bigger ie Kelly brook or Kim Kardashian (although Kelly does look better smaller) but if you have a round stomach it doesn't look food whatever size. Sadly even as an 8 I have a stomach

AlexisCarringtonColbyDexter · 16/01/2021 18:22

Exactly- and thats what I said earlier. When I put weight on it doesnt go to my boobs and butt making me all hourglass and curvy and lovely.

NOPE. I get a double chin, a puffy face and a lumpy stomach. Thats not attractive no matter which way you look at it so I disagree that everyone is attractive at any weight because it depends completely on where you store fat and thats something none of us have any control over!

Yes

I think it’s important to remember that beauty varies according to personal taste, era and location. There’s no ‘right’ answer to this question!

DrCoconut · 17/01/2021 20:25

Yikes looks like I've started a debate. I am certainly no competitive under eater, I can only dream of being told to go and gain a stone now Grin I just lost weight due to sheer stress. I've seen people on other threads claiming that 7.5 st is fine.

BarryWhiteIsMyBrother · 17/01/2021 20:28

Anyone who'd look better as a size 14 would be a rare exception and not the rule.

Well it's fine as long as you are no taller than 5ft 3.
NatashaAlianovaRomanova · 17/01/2021 21:08

I look & feel more attractive at a size 14 - that's when I have curves in the right places.

Size 10 & I look awful... all pointy elbows, drawn in face, no boobs & saggy, wrinkly mum tum just hanging there with nothing to fill it out Blush

But that's me & not everyone is the same as me so I guess it depends on the woman in question.

Did you see my link to the sizes of the Hollywood era? They were not large women as shown in this video. They were slim. Some may have been hourglass so wide hips and bust compared to waist, but not fat.

Gwenhwyfar · 17/01/2021 22:54

What???
Cows have four stomachs. Women have one.

Anyone else reminded of “Lady shapes” idea for a programme from Alan Partridge? Grin

People must be very very tall indeed to look ‘gaunt’ if the average size they fit into is a 10.”

Not really. I’m 5ft 8. Size 8 is just right for me. 6 and I look “gaunt”. 10 and I have a bit of a spare tyre. Build has a lot to do with it. I have tiny shoulders and hips.
