Lost cat, any stories of hope please?

My lovely cat hasn't been seen since Saturday morning :-(. He never stays out overnight and this is really out of character. I have added his details to our local lost pets FB page and knocked around the area asking if people can look out for him and also left his litter box out and some cover /food.
I know it's only been two days but I'm really sad and worried :-(
Anyone got any heartening stories about returning felines?

I feel for you OP, it's such a worry. I do have a positive story though, my cat (who is a real homebird, nervous as hell, and never ventured past the garden before) turned up after 17 days missing. She's so dozy and not at all streetwise, so I was sure something bad had happened to her, especially as it was the middle of winter and night temperatures were below freezing at the time.

I was devastated and had started to give up hope, only to get up one morning to see her sitting on the kitchen windowsill crying to get in. She was skinny and a bit worse for wear, but otherwise ok. We think she must have got shut in somewhere. So there is always hope OP.

Yes, I went as soon as I could and had a distanced chat with the neighbour, who said if he sees the cat again, will put some food out for it and call us again. I walked round the area too but it was dark so couldn't see much. Will go out again soon and rattle some treats and see if I can find him.

The longest out cat went missing for was 2 weeks. I had given up hope but then came down one morning and there she was in the kitchen having eaten everything in her bowl. She was very skinny and losing fur but her same old self. We’ve lost her several times over the years but she always finds her way home. In fact our neighbours all know me now as BookShop’s Cat Mother they often stop me and ask if she is still OK!

Maybe put the contents of your hoover in the garden again OP. If he is near but in a place he doesn't normally go to, maybe he doesn't know the way back?
Fingers crossed 🤞

Our cat went missing, only for 2 days but she was under next doors shed the whole time.. she could easily get out but for some reason wouldn't until I went round and called her...cats can be daft sometimes so fingers crossed that was Boo that your neighbour saw.

Again, thank you all for your stories, I've had a walk around but there's nothing about at all.. Don't blame them as it's bloody freezing here Envy (not envy)

Hello OP. One of my cats was brought home by a neighbour on Wednesday as she had been sneaking in and annoying their male cat. She's been gone since September! She's in rude good health with a luscious winter coat. I know another woman local feeds a lot of strays, and our eldest cat has been bullying her, but she obviously didn't go far!

Lots of good tips - litter tray / hoover contents outside, hang her bedding on the line and leave out some food. There are some amazing cat lovers round our way posting found / spotted cats on a couple of Facebook groups which might be worth trying? Hope the cat returns soon!

The weirdest thing, I heard was someone saying whisper to another neighbourhood cat to find Boo and bring him back.

Now that’s weird..even for me.

But hey, try everything

Oh, I'm willing to try anything!
Hoover contents have gone outside.. Which felt weird to do but if it helps then I'll take it.
I will have a word in Tom's ear, he is the one in the picture I posted, they are properly BFF's 🐈

Don't give up hope, OP. That news from the neighbour sounds very hopeful.

Be careful calling near the road, though. When I was a teenager I went into the garden and called for our little dog, who had come to us as a stray. He had crossed a very busy A road into some fields. He ran to my voice and was knocked over and killed 😢

On a much happier note, by father's cat once disappeared for two weeks. Daddy put up posters and knocked on doors all around his neighbourhood, but there was nothing. Then a friend who visited intermittently to work on an old car made another visit, and it turned out that Puss had somehow become trapped in the car and survived by drinking rain water. She went on to live for very many more very happy years x

@tiredvommachine my brother and his partner took their cat to her parents when they went on holiday. Her dad accidentally let the cat out and obviously it was scared and lost and disappeared.

Over two weeks later the cat turned up at the parents house again.

Don’t want to give you hope when all situations are obviously different but cats are good at getting back home even after a long time.

Our cat went missing one year in early Feb on a lovely sunny day and just after it turned horribly wet and cold. She was about 17. 2 weeks later, when I asked someone who used to do next door's garden he said he hadn't seen her. The next day he came to the house - he'd found her huddled in a corner between rabbit cages at the far side of his garage. She stuck to me like glue after that.

Just checking in with you op, with some good news to keep you going. A local cat that went missing before xmas turned up yesterday acting like nothing had happened, looking very well and had a collar on him that he didn't have when he left Shock

I hope you're ok and your cat is just off on a similarly cheeky adventure! Flowers
