Lost cat, any stories of hope please?

My lovely cat hasn't been seen since Saturday morning :-(. He never stays out overnight and this is really out of character. I have added his details to our local lost pets FB page and knocked around the area asking if people can look out for him and also left his litter box out and some cover /food.
I know it's only been two days but I'm really sad and worried :-(
Anyone got any heartening stories about returning felines?

My boy vanished for 2 weeks, we did flyers though doors, on lampposts etc and shared on local Facebook groups and Nextdoor.

He waltzed in at 5am demanding food one morning. Keep hopeful OP

Our cat went missing for 5 weeks after a house move. We put posters up and eventually someone from the local choir said they thought he was turning up to listen to them sing every week in the Church hall. Sure enough, it was he. He had a feral yowl for a while but other than that was perfectly healthy. He must have been feeding himself somehow or other. He was only a mile away.

We had a very elderly cat who we'd adopted at the age of about 12 (so he was at least 16 when this happened). We couldn't find him anywhere for a couple of days - tried calling, leaving out food, searching, asking neighbours, all the usual stuff.

On the Saturday morning there was a note through the door saying 'WE HAVE YOUR CAT' with an address. Slightly nervously, I went and knocked on the door.

The house had three ENORMOUS Russian men living in it, one of whom was on the sofa cuddling our cat. He gave me a big smile, said hello and explained that the cat had been sleeping on our front windowsill and some men who were walking down the street had shouted at him and frightened him. "So" he told me completely deadpan, "I frightened THEM." He'd been round a couple of times but DH and I had been out at work, hence the note.

I swear DCat was looking even more smug than usual Grin

Gliblet that really made me smile. I love the idea of your cat chilling with his new 'ard mates Grin

My naughtiest wandering cat once gave our neighbours a bit of a shock by miaowing from the back seat of their car as they pulled up at the garden centre!

About 9 years ago,one of my late DM's cats went missing. To make matters worse,it happened whilst she was in hospital, and my brother and I were looking after her 4 cats. He disappeared on a Wednesday morning, then suddenly reappeared 4 days later,in the early hours of Sunday morning. We never did find out where he'd been.

My late cat used to sneak into my next door neighbours house for a snooze on her bed....she was delighted as her husband wouldn't let her have a cat so we shared mineGrin

Ours once spent an entire bank holiday weekend locked in the bakery round the corner!! The person who opened up on the Tuesday morning had a shock - she'd just left her tiny, one-eyed black-and-white cat at home, unlocked the bakery and discovered our tiny, one-eyed black-and-white cat looking up at her!

@Gliblet - that's brilliant!! :)

Hope yours comes home soon, OP.

My cat disappeared for about 4 months a couple of years ago. I'm not entirely convinced that her old owners didn't catnap her. She randomly turned up and started weaving about dh legs like she had never been gone.

Oh no....

Mine wandered off in May, came home 5 days later - we were all distraught. It’s not nice.

Can only echo all the good advice on here and offered at the time,

Call early morning/late evening when quiet
Sprinkle (dirty) litter if you have it, outside
Put a used blanket outside
Heat tuna/fish and leave out - I was dubious over this as surely it would attract every Tom, dick and Harry 🙈
Local FB pages

Fingers crossed

Yes - a few years ago when i had my cat he went missing in the summer for just over a week.

I doorstepped all the houses with leaflets and spoke personally to the people who lived there - just in case they'd seen him.

He turned up, a bit thinner one morning - I think he'd been shut in a shed/garage (he was a bit nosy) and the people who lived there had gone away and not realised he was in there. No idea how he survived. apparently lots of cats do this.

I didn't do any of this - apart from calling in early morning and late evening and the tuna fish.

My cat did hear me calling and I think it jogged his memory...

Years ago my girl disappeared, I was distraught. After four weeks my best friend (who's very woo) rang me to say she'd had a dream about my cat. Her exact words were 'Please don't give up hope, she'll be home soon. She's very skinny but unharmed'. I brushed it off thinking she was trying to comfort me but two days later my cat turned up crying at the back door - she was very skinny but otherwise ok Shock That day was also my birthday, best present I ever had!

OP please don't give up hope 🤞

My friend's cat went missing and they went out calling him when it was quiet. It is best to call and stand still in case they need time to work out where you are calling from. Take treats to shake.

Friend's cat heard but couldn't get out as he was shut in an empty house, he did answer and they heard faint sounds but didn't know where from. Eventually they worked out where he was and got him back. Stopping and listening after calling was how they found him.

Leaflets! Mine went missing for 2 weeks right after we moved. Some guy rang me saying he’d seen him in an alley. I went round, shaking a tin that someone gave me (beans) and he came miaowing along a wall. I was so relieved! Skinny, filthy, I think he’d been locked in somewhere. I hope yours turns up, I hate not knowing where they are and if they’re safe.

My cat has been missing twice. First time was three days. I posted flyers in a 3 block radius. A woman about 300m down the street called and said she had seen her. Went to the area and started calling and she appeared. Second time one day, walked around calling her and I heard a plaintive meow. I don’t let her out past 1130 any more. I hope your cat turns up soon.

Just spotted this
I’ll get into it right now.

What I’ll do is dowse over his photograph and Jack temples remedies ( who treated Diana, fergie, Jerry hall and Cherie booth and many others I don’t know about and see which comes come up as most suitable.
I expect life force will be the main one if he’s uninjured.

These remedies are made from Jacks stone circle at his old home in pyfleet surrey , which he dowsed for and constructed from the same reselling blue stone from wales, that went into stone henge.

I would still leaflet , asking people to check garages, sheds etc

OP - Haven't RTFT, but just started one about my own cat a couple of minutes ago and wanted to very quickly share this with you: Back in his heyday (Grin) he disappeared when I was away on holiday for a couple of days, only to return...nearly 2 years (yes, years) later!

Don't lose hope, keep calling for him and keep your fingers crossed. He's gorgeous, btw. Hope he finds his way back soon! Flowers
