I have long ago given up on the idea of fixing anything to plasterboard walls (Gipskarton). The whole flat is made up of them - the part that faces me and my interior design ambitions. I stick to sets of shelves (IVAR or Kallax) for everything.

Miss thanks for the link - it is available on Netflix. de.

EggyPegg · 11/01/2021 20:18

@soddingkitten. Your knowledge was more than mine. I know what rawl plugs are but I have no idea which should be used for what. I'm pretty handy with some DIY, but not so much with putting things into/onto walls. There's a reason that every picture on our hallway gallery wall is held up with sticky velcro.
We had one of the builders ask us, as he was doing the quote, if we were planning on doing any elements of it ourselves to save money. DH is more hopeless than me, so we sit squarely in the 'throw money at it until it's fixed' camp.

@DoctorTwo, mash sandwiches sound so good.

@Spudlet, those burgers sound lovely! May I have the recipe please?

EggyPegg · 11/01/2021 20:20

Welcome @AmandaHoldensLips. Perfect opening post to the thread.

BarryTheChopper · 11/01/2021 20:26

My DOMS have gone.

Sunbird24 · 11/01/2021 20:32

According to my phone I have walked 3 steps today.

Squirrel26 · 11/01/2021 20:33

Brilliant news about Champagnedog. Hope the final bill isn’t too painful.

I tried to put up some curtain poles once. I drilled two holes, and then I put down the drill and got someone who knew what they were doing to finish it off (they had to fill in the two holes first).

Spudlet · 11/01/2021 20:34

@EggyPegg Of course! It’s a bit of a faff to make them but they were nice. I used pumpkin instead of butternut squash because we had two mini ones left from the garden, and a brown onion instead of a red one because I forgot to add a red one to the shopping. The recipe was on my FitrWoman app, which is a free app that tracks your period and helps to tailor your exercise and nutrition. to your cycle. These are supposedly good recovery food.

Last bit of the recipe.

We had ours with fresh green salad... and chips Grin Because you know, you can take this health thing too far Wink

I had never paid any mind to shepherd's pie until I read on numerous MN threads that it's commonly served at wedding receptions in the UK, which seemed a bit cheap unfestive to me.

Welcome, @BarryTheChopper and thanks for sharing your skeletomuscular news. What activity brought it on in the first place?

I’ve never heard of shepherds pie served at a wedding... Confused

MissConductUS · 11/01/2021 20:45

Nydj It's hard to go wrong with too much cheese. Smile

Spudlet I think you can be fined for serving burgers without chips.

It's pizza night at our house if DS isn't too exhausted by the first day of his online internship.

Recipe looks good. I have butternut squash and some couscous. I wonder if that would work instead of the quinoa?

Champagneforeveryone · 11/01/2021 20:52

Many thanks to you all for DDog1's good wishes.

I've been at work but DH has been on nursing duty. DDog1 is currently maintaining his new sylph like waistline with a diet of hand proffered Waitrose chicken breasts.

Least said about the vets bill the better Wink

MissConductUS · 11/01/2021 20:55

Sunbird, to be fair, these were mostly threads about "what's the worst wedding you've ever been to?" where people were complaining about insufficient or poor quality catering. Weddings in the US tend to be over catered in my experience.

Ok, I google shepherd's pie ..... - mince and potatoes - it's on the list! Grin
Since I joined MN I have two ever growing lists: books and food

Sunbird24 · 11/01/2021 21:07

@Prokupatuscrakedatus if it’s lamb mince it’s shepherds pie, if it’s beef mince it’s cottage pie... 😉

APurpleSquirrel · 11/01/2021 21:09

As well as wfh, today DH & I have had to take one of our cars to the wreckers yard. Got an estimate of £2k+ to fix it & just can't afford it, especially when it's not being used atm.

I've never had or heard of having shepherds pie at a wedding!

MissConductUS · 11/01/2021 21:17

Interesting. In the US it's made with ground beef.

I am atm cooking shepherds pie..had a day off and am waiting for DP to get home in an hour. Also trying to work up engery for a shower. I cleaned and vacumed flat today so feel l have achieved enough.

MissConductUS · 11/01/2021 21:28

Welcome, @teenagetantrums and thanks for sharing your culinary news, If you cleaned and vacuumed you have done plenty.

I'm heading home in a moment, hoping that DS survived the first day of his internship.

Clue is in the name. Sheep = shepherds. And clearly cows live in cottages...

Thanks @Spudlet. I'm happy to swap similar vegetables around, depending on what I've got to hand. DH is going shopping tomorrow so I'll add those bits to the list.

Welcome @BarryTheChopper (which is an excellent name by the way). Hooray for the disappearance of the DOMS.

Welcome @teenagetantrums. You've definitely done enough.

I went for my run just after 5pm today. I wore my neck gaiter and DSs technical gloves. And I couldn't believe how much warmer I was. I kept it short as my hamstrings still feel tight, but according to Strava I did my fastest mile ever on Strava, and it's certainly my fastest for a good while (I'm still way off my peak), so I was pleased with that. It's very satisfying having a little PB medal.

I'm supposed to be starting my next assignment but I have been distracted by the sudden flurry of activity on the Skiing board and have naturally needed to contribute at length.

Interesting post for everyone except me today. DS1 had his new Nerf gun arrive (bought with Christmas money), DH had his gaming headset (he's now happily chatting and playing with a friend) and DS2 had his Paddington postcard. Paddington is in Jordan this month so we've learned all about the Dead Sea and the Black Iris.

Silkiechickscat · 11/01/2021 21:52

Glad to hear DDog is home Champagne

Just had a roast beef dinner and about to have crumble and custard. Cat howled as DH was cutting the beef, can't imagine why - could it be her 12th request for food today? She is supposed to be on a renal diet but views the renal diet food as additional food rather than replacement food.

DS and DD have been discussing a new 6th form with me and both very excited but not certain it will open yet. Been fact finding about similar schools.

No news on house sale (and news reports market may be closed again) so e-mailing EA and a good day home learning with maths, English and History done.

Silkiechickscat · 11/01/2021 21:55

DH had his piano lesson and is on the phone to France, I've just heard the words 'rock and roll' so maybe one of his piano friends.

Gliblet · 11/01/2021 22:09

@Silkiechickscat 'cat' and 'diet' don't really go together do they? Grin

Our dog decided to contribute to the homeschooling and wfh effort today by coating himself in fox poo from the garden. He's bathed and smelling acceptable again now, and by tomorrow may have earned back the 'D' in 'Ddog'. Little toerag. Our own fault for feeding the local vixen though.

AmandaHoldensLips · 11/01/2021 22:13

I bought a coat in the sales. It arrived this morning. It's too big and makes me look like a giant recycling bin. I have to send it back but the return instructions are extremely complicated so I just couldn't be arsed today, hence pointlessly looking at bathroom shelves instead.
