Hello all, I've not been keeping up to date here at all - and have been doing interesting (to me) things! Yes, sorting out the junk in the loft has turned into a real trip down memory lane and I have been enjoying it immensely. I have even managed to throw some things away, but I'm now at the boring 'putting things back' stage so felt free to post again Grin.

Deathraystare · 21/01/2021 12:58

Just managed to book a Saturday slot for my parcels (next Saturday) so happier!

Squirrel26 · 21/01/2021 13:04

I hear space is VERY COLD so obvs astronauts must be appropriately attired.

Tim Peake grew up in the village where I live, and is a park up the road there is a tree with a plaque dedicated to him which says ‘He aimed high’. Which I always think sounds like a) he’s dead and b) he failed in whatever it was he was setting out to do. Neither of these things are true.

EggyPegg · 21/01/2021 14:14

Blimey @Champagneforeveryone, that is a bit exciting.

@Spudlet, it sounds like you've had a very productive morning. Definitely bask.

Ugh,@Frownette, delete and block. She's not respecting your boundaries. If she's not got it by now, she never will.

I have just watched some thrilling video training delivered by my Head about the new tests that our being rolled out to school staff. Staff that are in school are now required to test twice a week, in the morning before eating. Because sticking a swab up my nose at 0630am is just how I want to start my week.

Deathraystare · 21/01/2021 14:31

My shoe and boot trees arrived today! Will happily apply them to my shoes and boots when I get home!

Champagneforeveryone · 21/01/2021 14:57

I know eggy, he's being remarkably blasé about it although since nothing actually happened it's not as exciting as it could have been.

In other news I'm actually wearing knickers proper clothes I'm outdoors and seeing actual people, walking around and all sorts Grin

MissConductUS · 21/01/2021 15:41

I'm stuck in all day zoom Hell again today.

Spudlet when I was about his age I also got interested in space, so my mum got me some age appropriate books about the solar system and astronomy. It's been a life long interest ever since. I even took astronomy and astrophysics courses at uni.

This is a teachable moment Smile

@EggyPegg Blush I sent an email to all staff very similar to the one you received today. As I have to be on site at 7.30am each morning, I’m going to have to have set my alarm for 5.45am to so the testing (lead by example!)

Spudlet · 21/01/2021 17:04

Oh, absolutely @MissConductUS - we have a few books hanging about already so I’m going to rotate them to the top of the pile and next time we have a clear night DH is taking DS out with the stargazing binoculars (little does he know as yet!). DS is also desperate for his bedroom to be redecorated with a space theme, so I’m making plans and getting a few bits and bobs in ready. He’s almost too tall for his baby bed, so it won’t be long before we attack it. Smile

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 21/01/2021 17:11

Champagne - real people? Grin

I do not have to go in to work tomorrow.
Our watercooker (kettle thingy) is broken - normaly I would go round the block and buy a new one. But no - plague - I have to order from amazon. It arrives tomorrow - plus some other replacements I would normaly get from local shops, but can't.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 21/01/2021 17:13

@spudlet
DS had a bedside lamp that covered the ceiling of his room with the stars / constellations he would see in the local night sky. He loved it.

Spudlet · 21/01/2021 17:15

@Prokupatuscrakedatus That sounds lovely and just the sort of thing DS would love - I will add it to the list!

MissConductUS · 21/01/2021 17:43

Spudlet go on Amazon and search for home planetarium or star projector. There are some well rated ones in the $40-$50 range. That would really create a space themed bedroom.

MissConductUS · 21/01/2021 17:51

Cross posted with Prok. I'm pretty sure she's talking about a star projector.

Pardon my brevity, I'm on my phone instead of my laptop.

Champagneforeveryone · 21/01/2021 18:09

Yes prok, real people - to be fair, it's not quite the experience I had built it up in my head to be Grin

TenCornMaidens · 21/01/2021 18:38

Can't keep up with this thread :)

Phone call with tradesman today, and a brisk walk with a friend I haven't seen in a while. Weather held off - windy but bright.

Then I had a nap this afternoon and did some reading for my course.

DH has Thursdays off so he cooked curry for dinner.

EggyPegg · 21/01/2021 18:50

@HelenaJustina, my Head said to me that he's going to do his in the evening just before he goes to bed as he has a frantic morning as it is. Says that he's not going to be interacting with anyone outside his house between bed and morning and that he's not getting up earlier! Though he did say that it's a 30 minute drive to work so he's tempted to do it as he gets in the car and drive the test with him.
A space theme sounds excellent Spud. I still feel sorry for poor Pluto.

Sunbird24 · 21/01/2021 19:01

Evening all! Late finish from work today so picked up a pizza for tea. It’s not quite cooked properly but it’s too much of a hassle to do anything but est it anyway. Nando’s perinaise covers all sins...

This is another great reason to make your own pizza at home. However it's not quite as effortless as a takeaway.

DD went to orthodontist but they didn't fit lower braces just adjusted top.

DS is refusing to go to school tomorrow, the senco is seeing if they will let DD in instead though expect to be rejected but would be good for her to have a scream free DS day and be able to see another child, she's getting very lonely.

DS' tutor asked for names and photos of pets. I told DS I had sent them in and he asked me why I hadn't sent a picture of Toffee in. I said because Toffee is dead and its not name the dead pet, it will be living pets and he said oh I get the idea but maybe send a photo of Toffee anyway. So I've sent one explaining she is dead but DS wants it sending anyway - I guess if they are very short on pets they can get onto dead ones!

No news on house sale still which is worrying.

DS did French with me for an hour but walked off after 1 minute of science.

I called DH and the cat growled like if you answer her I will never forgive you.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 21/01/2021 20:24

Oops, that reminds me DS (and me) have a session with his therapist via zoom tomorrow. We have to explain to him about the school situation, yay! I think it is time we were looking for sb more specialized in older teens.

And for sth exciting: I have to clean and decrumb 12 muffin forms.

HelenaJustina · 21/01/2021 20:45

I’m back from an unexciting food shop in time to watch the very predictable (but sunny) Death in Paradise. This is the first time this has happened this series!

Squirrel26 · 21/01/2021 21:10

I’ve just done my Covid test (have to be done on set days here, but not set times.) Now I’m going to get ready for bed while I wait for it to be ready.

halfpasteleven · 21/01/2021 22:12

I hope your COVID test is negative @Squirrel26
@Spudlet my DS (8) did a project on space recently and loved it. He was able to do a lot of research himself and was very definite in what was to be in it and what was not.
Pluto got a mention @EggyPegg but I too felt sorry for it.

My hairdresser scissors arrived today. I haven't even taken it out of the packet.. too scared.

Silkiechickscat · 21/01/2021 22:17

DS was telling rabbit off so I asked him why and he said it was as rabbit was eating the TV stand and the noise is annoying him. He then said DH was also annoying him as when he went in the kitchen DH was cooking what sounded like 1,000 dead parrots. Grin

I said as DH is French that could be what he is planning for dinner. But since DH appeared with salmon, new potatoes and green beans and no dead parrots so if he was cooking that it was for the cat not us. Smile
