I can't muster enthusiasm for anything but sleeping at the moment, please could someone wake me up in summer when schools are reopen and we can go on holiday.

Nydj · 20/01/2021 16:06

I am watching the inauguration on CNN - they don’t pretend to have any respect for anything related to Trump at all 😊

Frownette · 20/01/2021 16:27

Oh gosh CNN, I've just come off a looooong call and forgot the time.

@MissConductUS you do sound really proud of them both 😊

I have to cancel prime later, not sure I have time to squueze in all the films I want to watch between now and midnight

MissConductUS · 20/01/2021 16:41

Lady Gaga just sang the hell out of the national anthem.

Frownette, I am really proud of both of them. Grin

I thought Biden’s inaugural address got the tone spot on, amazing speech writing.

I ignored the weather and went for a run from work before driving home, cleared my head after webinar hell today. Just made it through the flood but after today’s rain I’ll have to go the long way round to work tomorrow.

Frownette · 20/01/2021 17:26

Biden looks really well actually.

MissConductUS · 20/01/2021 17:38

It's done, with lovely speeches from everyone. Smile

Frownette, my DC are living proof that you can make lots of some mistakes as a mum and still have them turn out just fine.

Watched the inauguration despite DS’s protests - I did try to explain how historic it was but you know, he’s 5 🤷‍♀️ I thought President Biden’s speech was excellent, as was the young woman who did the poem - she was very impressive indeed. Well done everyone 👍

Therainisback · 20/01/2021 21:51

Have been trying to cut down on screen time in the evening to improve my chances of going to sleep hem I go to bed, instead of lying awake for 2 hours. Good to hear all your calming news though. In my dull news, I've been for an evening walk in the rain (which has now turned to snow) - our river ( which is very small as we are at its source)is beginning to flood over its banks.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 20/01/2021 21:56

I have 600 g of wool left over from the Dobby sweater - one of the skeins needed to be unraveled (entwirrt?) so I did this and turned it into a nice ball (sadly unaided by a cat).

halfpasteleven · 20/01/2021 22:03

@EggyPegg tell me more about cutting your own hair please.. mine is getting too long here in lockdown and I am tempted to just get a scissors and cut some off while it is in a ponytail maybe..
I've ordered hairdresser scissors from Amazon.. they are due by Monday at the latest.

DoctorTwo · 20/01/2021 22:12

I had to use my car tiday for the first time since 22nd December. To my delight it started first time.

EggyPegg · 20/01/2021 22:16

@halfpasteleven,I know nothing about cutting my own hair. That was a poorly formed sentence. I thought again about cutting my own hair.

I'm tempted to braid it and then just snip it. To be honest it's all uneven and hasn't been cut in about three years anyway, so I'm not convinced I'd notice if it wasn't perfectly done. I rarely wear it down anyway, so as long as it's long enough to put in a pony or braid, I'm happy.

I do cut my own fringe though and I've got pretty good at it. I have some super sharp scissors (actually my crochet ones) and I just do it slowly and a little at a time.

Silkiechickscat · 20/01/2021 22:27

I've cut my hair a few times by myself - if you have long hair its quite easy, wouldn't do it with a very short haircut. Just put it in a centred ponytail and cut an inch (or however much want off) then even it out in a mirror - it ends up pretty even anyway. Mine is layered at the front which helps. And just then do layers at front and fringe. I would do less than you want first time as a trial. There's youtube videos but not much too it.

Just had lamb steak, brocolli and aligot. Going to have a Ripple chocolate bar or 2 with a cup of tea.

Champagneforeveryone · 20/01/2021 23:05

Less than an hour to go and the weather is howling outside - definitely no midnight walks for me Hmm

Frownette · 21/01/2021 02:31

champers, you're free!

I've just woken up and it's not raining for a change. I might go and get a snack and cup of tea then take a shower.

mathanxiety · 21/01/2021 02:49

For various reasons, I did a drive thru covid test this morning and got home in time to miss the swearing in by minutes. Saw Biden's speech though - I liked it. I confess I did not miss all the pomp and parading that usually comes with an inauguration. One of the trombonists in the Navy band went to school with DS from age 5 but I couldn't spot him if was even there, playing.

Frownette · 21/01/2021 03:07

You're in the US mathanxiety? For some reason I thought you were UK.

I've just remembered I have a F2F appointment this morning, that's a novelty

Silkiechickscat · 21/01/2021 03:29

DD has the orthodontist in the morning, very surprised that hasn't been cancelled but its going ahead for her lower brace.

Geography teacher said he thought DS had been trying to log-in to lesson. I thought Hmm that would be his first attempt ever in his life and I asked DS and he was Shock Shock no why would he think that? Grin

atz333 · 21/01/2021 03:53

@DoctorTwo I wish mine was the same!

Something is up with my car and if I don't start it up every day, the battery goes flat. I was able to drive 2 weeks ago, 6 weeks after my section and only went out once when my husband started it up for me. Since then I've had to get lifts from him because I really can't be bothered to start it up everyday with nowhere to go. I definitely want to get rid of it though because with my husband working from home (probably permanently afterwards too) we won't need both. I also prefer his car to my own! More boot space.

Frownette · 21/01/2021 09:06

I've just opened an an email from an old friend, we hadn't been in contact for a few years as she kept mentioning something I am sensitive about despite me asking her not to.

She's asked about it again Confused

Nydj · 21/01/2021 12:08

Goodness, @Frownette, how annoying and insensitive. If previous requests to desist have not worked, perhaps time to Ignore and block?

I have just had porridge. It was nice - not amazing, because, well, it’s porridge but nice enough.

Deathraystare · 21/01/2021 12:50

Well yesterday I was on a later shift for once so managed to get down to the sorting office as had a number of parcels. Well I got down there alright but did to realise they were closed on Wednesdays. From today, Saturday and Sunday I am on earlies again! Not normally in on a Monday but we have two receptionists recovering from COVID. One was supposed to be back on Sunday but is still recovering.

I am going to have to get them delivered again as just seen next week's rota and it is mainly mornings!

Had a bargain lunch. Sainsburys had discounted some stuff including a sweet potato katsu curry I had yesterday. Ok but you had to oven bake the sweet potato wedges but microwave the rice and sauce, I had a mixed veg (Meditarranean) pasta today. I think they were both 35p. Bargain!

Champagneforeveryone · 21/01/2021 12:55

In (probably over exciting) news, DH has just come back from work, relaying how he'd been to an elderly mans house to follow up a job he did yesterday (he'd mentioned at the time the chap seemed a bit "odd") DH had knocked on the door and let himself in as usual.

He then describes (with complete understatement) how he was "a bit shocked" to have 4 armed police officers burst through the door and bundle him outside.

Turns out that the man was in some sort of MH crisis and had threatened a visiting nurse with a knife. DH had managed to pull up, park his van and saunter up the path in the intervening minutes between the nurse calling 999 and the police arriving.

Considering the most exciting thing that's happened to us for weeks was the purchase of a new candle for the coffee table, this was something of a change of pace Grin

Spudlet · 21/01/2021 12:56

We have had a morning of space themed pencil control worksheets, play dough (surprisingly non-space themed), an abortive phonics session and more space Lego. DS has now gone for a bike ride - apologies, a space bike ride. He was persuaded to wear a scarf and mittens when I told him astronauts wear them (I’m sure astronauts’ mums and dads must send them into space with sufficient warm clothes, right?). We’re very much into space at the moment as you can see.

Now torn between basking in the peace and being a little annoyed that ddog will need to come running with me, which limits my route options an awful lot. Mostly basking though.
