@Frownette
ECG - I thought it meant electrocardiogramme - but that could be a 'false friend'. DS is on medication for ADD and it's strictly regulated and needs frequent blood tests, heart checks and medication training lessons for parents.
No, DH is from Baden. If he wants, he can speak a lovely dialect, which after 34 years I actually understand.

Frownette · 19/01/2021 17:13

No no I've heard of ECG just wondered what for, and now you've told me. Are you from UK then?

I don't know what a Baden accent is, will google

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 19/01/2021 17:22

@Frownette
No - no familial contacts to any English speaking country at all.

Nydj · 19/01/2021 17:28

@MissConductUS, message your DD and ask if she would like to have a video call - be honest, tell her you miss her and would like to see her face if she is ok with that.

I have no idea where the day has gone today - won’t been that busy at work but still the day has gone. Stir fry for dinner tonight.

Frownette · 19/01/2021 17:49

Ah ok Prok - you're very fluent.

Champagneforeveryone · 19/01/2021 17:53

Gammon, egg and chips for dinner tonight. Also have a BBC Good Food flapjack breakfast bar in the oven. DH has taken to eating Nature Valley bars at enormous cost - this is my attempt to change that Grin

FourTurnings · 19/01/2021 18:02

Gammon, egg and chips is one of our favourites in this house.

FourTurnings · 19/01/2021 18:03

Am quite partial to a flapjack too. Who isn’t?

Frownette · 19/01/2021 18:05
Spudlet · 19/01/2021 18:08

Tuesday night is pizza and beer night chez Spuds! Well, no beer for DS - he can’t hold his drink Grin

I went for my smear test today. It was delightful Hmm I turned up on the dot of my appointment and was waiting around for 20 minutes, with a radio playing that kept getting all distorted from interference 🙉

Champagneforeveryone · 19/01/2021 18:41

spudlet , it's funny how these things suddenly become a treat isn't it? When I went for my Covid test yesterday it felt like a proper jolly I even put some knickers on

MissConductUS · 19/01/2021 19:13

In my never-ending quest to master British idioms, I googled flapjack and discovered that in the UK it can refer to a breakfast bar type item, baked in a flat pan then cut into sections. In the US, it's another word for pancake.

Thanks, @FourTurnings, and apologies if I missed welcoming you to the thread earlier.

@Spudlet you’ve reminded me that I got a reminder letter this week about my smear. Must book it... just haven’t got the time to spend 15 hours on hold trying to get through to the GP surgery!

HelenaJustina · 19/01/2021 22:05

DC1 is going to make sunshine flapjack this week (with mixed seeds and dried apricot in) as soon as the banana and chocolate loaf cake is all gone!

Nydj · 19/01/2021 22:22

Sorry to be so blunt but @HelenaJustina, please, please, please make the time to book and attend your smear test appointment. Your health is more important than anything.

halfpasteleven · 19/01/2021 22:49

We made granola this morning and had it with fresh strawberries and Greek yoghurt. DS had a kiwi on his.
It was delicious.
@MissConductUS I think a quick text to suggest a quick call to tell her you miss her and hope she is settling in well is a good idea.

MissConductUS · 19/01/2021 23:42

Thanks to all who suggested reaching out to DD. It turns out that she texted DH last night after I'd gone to bed to tell him that she was settled in fine, liked her room, had some dinner, etc. He forgot to tell me. Smile

She texted me a bit ago to tell me that her covid test was negative and I suggested a quick FaceTime meeting, which we are going to do in about 20 minutes. I'm looking forward to seeing her room.

Enjoy! :)

NotanotherboxofFrogs · 20/01/2021 00:24

@Champagneforeveryone if your dh is into the nature valley bars they are on Clubcard offers in Tesco for £1 a box until the 2nd February.

Tomorrow I am going to drag myself into the shower and then go downtown to collect my prescription. Exciting times

MissConductUS · 20/01/2021 00:32

We had a very nice video chat with DD. Her room is so big it must have been a double at some point. They are bringing meals to her dorm and she had chicken and rice for dinner. She has a friend from last semester who lives in her dorm but is in a different covid bubble.

She seems perfectly fine. 😊

Ooooh. @MissConductUS, over here a flapjack is nothing like a pancake. It's a kind of chewy, oaty bar. I like my home made ones because they are full of sugar and syrup but I'm not keen on shop bought ones.

Good to hear that you're in touch with your DD. Don't overthink it.

On the subject of smear tests, I had mine a couple of weeks ago, and got the letter last week to say that it was fine.

Whilst I was there I enquired as to when specifically I'd had my coil put in so that I knew when to book it to be replaced. I knew that it was at some point after DS2 (who was 7 in May) was born, and that coils had moved from having a 5 year life to a 10 year life around the same time.
Turns out that I had it put in in September 2013 and that it's only a five year one! It's over 2 years overdue.
She advised me to take a pregnancy test post smear. I replied that if it hadn't failed in the last two years, I wasn't going to get stressed out about that month (I'm not pregnant by the way).
She asked me if I'd been given a card with the information on it at the time, but I told her that I had a newborn and a two year old at that time and I couldn't even remember which branch of my then surgery I'd had it done at.

Gammon, egg and chips is popular in Eggy Towers with the menfolk too.

Frownette · 20/01/2021 02:09

@MissConductUS that's good you have caught up now. Does she have an urban or countryside environment?

With family stress I felt like a drink earlier but refrained (dry January). Just felt midnight munchies so toasted naan bread on the gas hob with a pair of tongs and mixed sour cream, paprika, garlic and curry powder to go with it

It was really nice, I may do that with eggs and sliced cucumber for breakfast.

mathanxiety · 20/01/2021 02:14

I test drove two used cars on Saturday but didn't end up buying either of them.

grassisjeweled · 20/01/2021 02:31

Had to be tactical with the laundry today as DH is now WFH all the time, his office is next to the laundry room, when he's on camera I don't want people to see my staggering around with a laundry basket.

Made pork stir fry for dinner, very nice.

Thought I'd found superglue to mend DS'S pants, but the tube was empty

Issues with house sale all yesterday so got none of the learning done with DS. He was supposed to be in school but they withdrew the place Monday night until at least Friday. DS doesn't seem to want to go either as its not normal school but he won't do much at home either.

Glad your DD is settled MissC - that's the sort of thing DH would do forget to tell me DD messaged.

Just having a hot milk. Rabbit was super happy today and bouncing around as all his things were super clean. Cat is the same when you clean round the house she sits on everything you've just cleaned and blinks at you.
