I've been talking through GCSE options with DS. First discussion went geography or history DS: Say No, French or Spanish DS: Say No. Well we have to chose 4 options. DS I want statistics. Me and what else, DS says no to every other option.

This time we got to Statistics, Geography and French (but says no speaking test as its too scary which also isn't an option). I've ordered 2 fsmq maths books as you do that with the stats option.

Frownette · 19/01/2021 05:24

£30 isn't too bad. I was wondering what has happened with a relative's clearance, a wardrobe, chest of drawers, coffee table, fridge/freezer and the bed have resell value but there would be 3 items to dispose of then all the surface stuff.

Stats would be good, transferable skill.

Have you had cat since she was a kitten? I still haven't slept properly, this started Saturday, got a few hours yesterday evening. I'm really lucky I just have training/study and a couple of meetings for the rest of the week.

Silkiechickscat · 19/01/2021 05:46

Yes we got her when she was a kitten from Catford. DH chose her but I paid for her as he said I could get a kitten for me but he didn't really like them and he vetoed fluffy ones and said he wanted a tabby with white paws. Now he worships her. She was really tiny when we got her, smaller than my hand, and suspect she was younger than they told us. As soon as we got her home she gave the biggest purr ever but she was terrified of gardens and has largely stayed indoors. When we moved to our second house she got brave went in garden and a dog put its head under garden door and went woof, poor Silkiecat.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 19/01/2021 07:10

Off to accompany DS to have an ECG. And then to work, where I'll be largely on my own bc Mob, that is German for WFH. Smile

Frownette · 19/01/2021 07:29

Have I missed something Prok, what's the ECG for? Is DH British?

Here I've just soaked some dessicated coconut for a curry tonight and took a bread roll out of the freezer to defrost for breakfast. Another lousy night's sleep.

HildaTablet · 19/01/2021 08:34

Not sleeping is miserable, Frownette, you have my sympathies. DH goes through phases of it and in the last few years I have too. I lost my dear DM last year and I had months of not sleeping after that.

I washed the car yesterday because, after doing the Great Waitrose click and collect, I was so ashamed of how filthy it was. Bit pointless since we're scarcely using it atm but I felt I'd achieved something, at least. It's back in the garage now, looking clean.

NotanotherboxofFrogs · 19/01/2021 08:37

Good news from me that the cold feeling has passed, no idea what it was really apart from the absolute cold to my core. I'm back to a normal temperature.

Today I plan to do some wraps in the George forman, first time trying wraps in it but inspired by another post on here.

Frownette · 19/01/2021 09:36

@HildaTablet sorry that you two get this too! I think I'm scraping enough sleep, Sunday 7 hours afternoon to evening, yesterday a few hours in the evening. Brain's a bit fuzzy though.

Sorry about losing your DM, it can be so bewildering and painful Flowers Trouble is it's your own unique experience so very difficult to 'share' with anyone. Clean car though :)

I've got to have a think now about which emails I need to send then I'll get on with learning. Thinking is hard this morning.

Champagneforeveryone · 19/01/2021 10:12

The bad news about a Covid test following self isolation is that the bosom of my family is now also in isolation until I get the result.
This is enormous fun Hmm

Frownette · 19/01/2021 11:18

Oh no!! Have thry thanked you from the bottom of their hearts...?

EggyPegg · 19/01/2021 13:36

@Champagneforeveryone. Sorry to hear that. Not for them, for you and the fact that now you'll get no peace. Hoping you get a fast result.

I got home from work to find that DH had put a jacket potato in the oven for me and that it was due out imminently. I also discovered that he'd changed the head on my toothbrush for me when I brushed my teeth earlier. He's a good egg.

EggyCat2 is wandering around looking lost. She clearly doesn't want to sleep, but it's raining so she doesn't want to be outside.

Champagneforeveryone · 19/01/2021 13:41

A negative result (as suspected)!!

DH is thrilled to be able to go back to work and DS can actually go on that long walk he had specifically planned for today

I'm released from exile at 2359hrs on Wednesday- it's quite tempting to stay up just so that I can go outside Grin

Frownette · 19/01/2021 14:00

Hang on, you got a negative result, or DH? If you're negative, aren't you free now??

Champagneforeveryone · 19/01/2021 14:11

Sadly not frownette, I'm in self isolation as a close contact so need to sit that one out. DH and DS have been free to come and go until I went for the test as I have a lovely cough (though am otherwise well) Now I'm negative they are free as birds

MissConductUS · 19/01/2021 14:15

Good morning lovely people of the thread.

@Frownette - I am very excited about the inauguration tomorrow but slightly nervous about what President crazypants Trump might do today on his way out.

@Champagneforeveryone - Congratulations on your negative test result!

The house felt a bit sad this morning without DD. I'm not sure how long to leave her be before attempting contact to see how she's doing.

Spudlet · 19/01/2021 14:21

We had a very exciting trip today - perhaps almost too much for this thread. I do hope you’re all seated. We went to the garage - yes! The actual garage, because the brakes on the big car are overheating. So DS and I had to pile into the little car and follow DH so he could drop the big car off. And then - just to add to the general frivolity - we popped over to the drive-through Starbucks and got a takeaway coffee. I tell you, it was as good as a holiday.

Unfortunately when I got home I realised they had got my order wrong and rather than a decaf latte, I had a fully leaded latte with a shot of syrup SadSo I couldn’t drink it all. Fortunately the big car has to go back at some point to have the brakes sorted and the little car needs its MOT so we can give the coffee another try soon 👍

Honestly, the sight of the smiley lady at Starbucks (behind her mask but she was smizing like a pro) and a few lads mucking about with their mate (letting him get to the car door then driving off) nearly made me cry Blush It seems so long so once I’ve experienced any mild levity with strangers Blush

Frownette · 19/01/2021 14:31

Gimme gimme gimme, I adore the fully leaded ones! Maybe that's what's disturbing my sleep...

champers in honour of your solitary confinement I shall put a foot - hang on phone

Spudlet · 19/01/2021 14:37

@Frownette I used to as well! But the year before last I had a sort of mini-breakdown over the summer - combination of a family bereavement, trying to support my DM through that from a hundred miles away, and having no respite from DS, who was going through a challenging phase - and I just stopped sleeping. Like, at all, for several days at a time. So I gave up caffeine, and since then I haven’t really had any - the couple of times I do, it really affects me. I get all jittery and my heart starts pounding! 🤷‍♀️

Frownette · 19/01/2021 14:48

Aww, it can all be overwhelming at times. Sleep is one of the main ways trauma manifests itself.

champers yes I'll put a foot outside my front door on your behalf. Never say I don't spoil you.

MissConductUS do you really think Trump will sabotage things? DD is probably adapting to her strange new surroundings so maybe quick call tonight?

Spudlet · 19/01/2021 14:54

@Frownette Yeah, it was a bit shit. Running saved me, tbh - the GPs sent me on an online CBT sleep restriction course and it was terrible - it’s meant to be great for 80% of people but I was definitely one of the 20%. It made me feel like I was being judged on my sleep, which made me even more anxious Blush So I ditched that and started running, and now I have one sleeping pill that lives in my bedside table (with my GP’s blessing), just in case. It’s been there since last Christmas. It’s my little security blanket - just in case.

Good news about the negative test Champers - did you develop symptoms then? Or did you get one through your job? We couldn’t find a way to get a test for DH when he got tapped to isolate before Christmas - not that it would have made any difference anyway as you know.

@MissConductUS Best wishes for the final hours of President Crazypants - hopefully he’s still too busy sulking about Twitter to actually do anything 🤞

Champagneforeveryone · 19/01/2021 15:26

spudlet I have a cough, but probably what we would describe as tickly rather than dry. If I wasn't in isolation (and about to return to a squad with 3/4 self isolating or with positive tests) I wouldn't have been at all concerned.

So tomorrow evening is my last shift WFH. DH has bought a celebratory candle for the coffee table and some beer.

We have also decided that we are going to walk the South West Coast Path. Not all at once, with no time limit and not in order (and not at the moment!) but it will be a challenge anyway.

Champagneforeveryone · 19/01/2021 15:28

Oh, meant to say missconduct, I would be expecting a phone call (or a text at the very least) tonight and would be mighty miffed if I didn't get one. She can always ignore you or cut you short if she's got better things to do Wink

HildaTablet · 19/01/2021 15:58

So stressful and disruptive for all those isolating, and their families Sad

MissConduct, DH and I will be glued to the TV tomorrow. We got addicted to CNN during the election and now feel as though Wolf Blitzer, Jake Tapper and of course the wondrous John King are close personal friends. I've baked a pan of brownies (Nigel Slater's recipe) in preparation to keep us going.

MissConductUS · 19/01/2021 15:59

@Frownette - I also love a fully caffeinated coffee. I have to stop at 4:00 PM to avoid having a problem getting to sleep that night. I think I will have DS text her to see if she is open to doing a quick Facetime call with us tonight. I don't want to crowd her but I don't want her to think we've forgotten about her either.

@Spudlet and Frownette. He'll release at least 100 pardons today for his family, associates, and other miscreants. Let's hope that's all he does. He's arranged a massive send off from himself when he flies out tomorrow, complete with a military band and a 21 gun salute. Let's hope he doesn't want to spoil it any more than he already has.

Frownette · 19/01/2021 16:31

I heard that he's not keen to release Julian Assange. We shall see! What time is he on?

I told a friend off for calling me 'sweatheart' in texts instead of 'sweetheart'. He apologised quite solemnly. I was complaining jokingly, I knew it was a mistake!

Started cooking earlier as I was hungry, I was nibbling on stuff whilst cooking now I'm not hungry. Smokey bean stew with mashed sweet potato and naan tonight.
