Poor little silkiecat, how dare you be asleep when she has her needs?

Hunger games was a bit gory. I was multi tasking throughout it and finished my document but it's a bit early to send. Can't remember if meeting is today or later on in the week. Actually I'll just send it and pretend it's not nearly 4am.

Silkiechickscat · 18/01/2021 03:55

It's quite appalling service and she was quite right to wake up DD, DH and I (and possibly some neighbours) to point out that she could now see almost all of the bottom of her food bowl and why wasn't her breakfast there when it was 3.30am.

She's just done a small howl, its a good trick this, get everyone up and your beck and call. We are now getting the tiny poor cat meow who hasn't been fed since 3.30am. Hmm

Frownette · 18/01/2021 04:07

Oh the little matchstick girlcat pitiful noise?

I sent document, it's not illegal to be up at 4am. Meeting is this afternoon.

It is however, as you have learnt, illegal for you to be asleep on your servant duties. Cat is filing her official complaint right this second.

Silkiechickscat · 18/01/2021 04:28

That's the noise. Thankfully I said Silkiecat night-night and she's gone to sleep and accepted 4am is too early for her 2nd or possibly 3rd breakfast.

HelenaJustina · 18/01/2021 06:32

@Frownette when are you going to sleep?! I was awake at 4am but managed to go back to sleep for a bit. Need to be in work for 7.45am every day this week... that ‘time back’ thing is looking unlikely already! Two members of staff were pinged by the app to self isolate over the weekend.

Frownette · 18/01/2021 07:14

I was wondering that myself Helena; I have 2 more documents to finish and send off then telephone meeting at 1pm, think I'll stay awake til then and crash afterwards.

Does this mean you're likely to get a ping too? It's such a shame you can't get a break :(

I still think you should ask for one.

EggyPegg · 18/01/2021 07:31

How dare you neglect your SilkieCat duties @Silkiechickscat.

EggyCat1 has decided that our bed is her new sleeping spot, and if I'm in it, atop me. She also gets a bit restless between 1 and 3.30am and likes to walk around on me. Last night I took her downstairs at around 1 and shut her in the playroom (connected to both the kitchen and bathroom so she has everything she needs on hand) and the night before it was around 3.30am. I enjoy the cuddles with her, I just need her to pick a spot and go to sleep.

I agree @HelenaJustina, get that break in the diary!

Good luck with your powering through today @Frownette

Wishing your DD a safe trip to uni @MissConductUS. I hope that you're feeling okay. You can also have an un-Mumsnetty hug from me. Because sometimes you just need one.

soddingkitten · 18/01/2021 07:35

The soft close on our bathroom toilet seat and lid has failed. It startled me by dropping and slamming shut.

HelenaJustina · 18/01/2021 08:42

Not likely to get pinged luckily, they think they were both caught separately in supermarkets - though they wouldn’t have said they spent 15 minutes closer than 2m to anyone there Hmm Need to get today done, then will think about clawing something back. Have you caffeine @Frownette?

@soddingkitten it is startling when that happens!

Frownette · 18/01/2021 10:07

Are all the cats misbehaving at present?! There must be something in the air!

Helena yes I've had a strong coffee, but the effects of no sleeping are starting to show, I was making a list of what else I have to do today and had to think very hard to remember. I've got a fair amount done though, I'm working through it with one eye on the second hunger games film, although it's on pause at present.

It's probably fairly similar to you, I won't have enough to do until I've set it all up.

After the thing at 1pm I'll be out like a light.

Champagneforeveryone · 18/01/2021 10:20

ChampagneCat has been enormously interested in WFH and has been a real asset

We've watched the birds on the feeder for a bit and I've ordered a silicone case for my AirPod case. A long chat with IT, a bacon sandwich and several cups of tea - I could really get the hang of this working from home lark Grin

MissConductUS · 18/01/2021 10:23

Good morning lovely people of the thread. I'm just back from my run and cooling off for a moment before I get in the shower. I'll wake everyone else up in an hour or so.

@Frownette, her uni is about a two and a half, possibly three-hour drive away in Massachusettes. And because we won't be getting anywhere near Boston, there's much less traffic than when we take DS to Uni. It's in a Berkshire Mountains town and a bit rural.

DD has always been very independent and fairly private. DH jokes that the only way to get her out of her room is to shut off the wifi. Smile

I’ve just had a Penguin (a Penguin is a small chocolate biscuit bar with a Penguin on the wrapper. When I was at school they would often be included in a packed lunch. Now it’s probably illegal to feed them to children.)

Penguins have a joke on the wrapper. This one was ‘Why are Penguins hard to get along with?’ ‘Because they’re always fishing for compliments’.

Spudlet · 18/01/2021 11:25

We just did an online phonics session and nobody cried.

I think we may now quit while we’re ahead Grin

MissConductUS · 18/01/2021 12:53

They've gone. So it's just me and the cats for the day. I think I'm going to clean out the big freezer in the garage as it's rammed and I'm sure there's a lot of old things in there that should be thrown out binned.

The picture is Dboycat, watching CatTV, shortly after DH, DD and DS headed out. There is a bird on the feeder if you look closely.

I wish I had a Penguin. Sad

Do you get them in US? They're nice!

Frownette · 18/01/2021 13:02

Oooh Spud must be an anticlimax.

My 1pm is late. Hurry hurry I want a catnap

MissConductUS · 18/01/2021 13:23

Frownette, we do not, unfortunately. According to Mr Google, they're Scottish.

God almighty, I got a gabbler - first I wanted to tell her to slow down, then I wanted to hang up on her and had to draw it to a close.

If someone's hyper on the phone it's impossible to take in what they're saying.

EggyPegg · 18/01/2021 13:50

Definitely quit while you're ahead Spud. Go out on a winner.

I was thinking about your DD and her journey on my way home from work @MissConductUS. Enjoy your freezer purge. I have no doubt it'll be cathartic.

DH told me that when he woke up this morning (after we'd all gone), he had EggyCat2 pressed up against his back, EggyCat1 against his feet, he was precariously balanced on the edge of the bed, and my side was completely unoccupied. The cats can't understand why he isn't grasping that there's a check out time for him because they have a time share slot that starts after breakfast. So now they physically edge him out.

MissConductUS · 18/01/2021 14:11

Thanks Eggy. I've done the freezer purge and it was cathartic. And I now know exactly how much pizza cheese, pizza dough, ice cream, burger buns, chicken breasts, burger patties, and frozen fruit we have. I filled almost two tall kitchen garbage bags.

One thing that came to light is that we're almost out of chocolate chip pancakes. DS now gets positively stabby if he's offered plain or blueberry pancakes so I'll make some more. Fortunately, I have ample milk, eggs, and pancake mix in the house so no need to run out to the supermarket.

I'm listening to the BBC news on my iPhone. I'm still hopeful that the Biden transition team will reach out to ask me about being the ambassador to the UK, or at least MN.

Squirrel26 · 18/01/2021 14:57

You should try tweeting the Biden team, @MissConductUS. If you can catch it in the bit where they they've got rid of Trump’s followers but before Biden’s have really caught on you’ll be more easily noticed.

Nydj · 18/01/2021 16:05

Belated happy birthday to you @Nomnomarrgh

I hope all you early walkers are enjoying a well earned nap now.

We have just been in receipt of some freshly cooked mid-afternoon snacks from our neighbours ( she kindly put it on a paper plate and covered it in kitchen roll so no need for unnecessary exchange of crockery. I hope I can be disciplined enough to have something like cereal for dinner to balance out my calories for the day.

MissConductUS · 18/01/2021 16:41

DH has texted me that they've had lunch at Chick-Fil-A and are on campus. DD has had her covid swab. The next step will be to procure a laundry cart to move her things to her room.

I've just made the pancake batter and am letting it sit while I heat up some leftover pizza from last night. There's also about 60% of DD's going away chocolate mousse cake. Surely a small slice wouldn't be missed?

Spudlet · 18/01/2021 16:42

I was all set to make healthy cheese and courgette muffins, then I noticed that the recipe requires nine eggs, and I only have seven in the house. This is particularly vexing as I just picked up the supermarket shop today.

I could work out the quantities to make a smaller batch but that requires thinking Sad
