Super boring here so not much to report.

I had to explain laundry hanging technique to my boys after I found two of my work dresses on the bottom rung of the clothes airer, i.e. mostly in a soggy pile on the floor. 🙄

I ordered egg custard tarts in the weekly shop in a moment of nostalgia. They were so underwhelming it won’t happen again. Not worth the calories, as DH would say.

Sodding is in low chaos mode currently. Long may it last! 🤞

Champagneforeveryone · 17/01/2021 19:44

No such luck frownette , I'm a close contact rather than symptomatic so no way out. There was talk of PHE overriding our Test and Trace instructions, but that seems to have come to nothing.
Still, if I remain well I will be free as a bird on Thursday. And I'm working from home now so at least I'll have something to keep me occupied Grin

Frownette · 17/01/2021 19:57

Oops MissConductUS I missed that you bought the dough, still half asleep.

Champers so you're the same as Sunset24 - I had symptoms (no close contact) but my tonsils are inflamed and looks like it was that. Still, you're riding it out, nearly there!

I've missed local supermarket which shut 4pm but I need a can of tomatoes as I wanted to make smokey bean stew - I may have to walk to the petrol station supermarket which is 10/15 minutes walk away. Checked with met office and it's 7° out.

Nomnomarrgh · 17/01/2021 20:07

Its my birthday so I wore myself out with housework.

HelenaJustina · 17/01/2021 20:11

I took the DC out again (back into the flood water, they are simple souls) for an hour this afternoon. Did roast chicken for lunch with all the trimmings and scones for tea. Worn out with such domesticity.

Happy Birthday @Nomnomarrgh Cake Flowers

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 17/01/2021 20:16

@Nomnomarrgh Congratulations Flowers

Muffins are in the oven and I have written a list of instructions for DS to follow tomorrow. He really needs a detailed work schedule to follow.

Spudlet · 17/01/2021 20:19

@Champagneforeveryone My step-uncle had to isolate as a close contact too. He was working in someone’s house and their elderly neighbour fell over on the way out to a taxi, so N tucked them under his arm (he’s a strapping chap!) and carried them in - unfortunately they turned out to have Covid, particularly ironic given that the taxi was to take them for their jab Sad However the point of this is to say that N’s friend, who is a respiratory medicine consultant, reckoned that the new Covid variant showed symptoms more than the old one. So you may well be in the clear if you’re still symptom-free, which doesn’t help you escape but does at least perhaps ease your mind a bit?

Therainisback · 17/01/2021 20:29

Happy birthday Nomnom
I've had a pleasantly dull day, a little run ( well done on your 7 miles Frownette) minding grandchildren whilst WE was at work, some baking, some cooking, walk to the park then visited my mum after tea.
We discussed repainting the kitchen - I am now pondering what colour to go for. I suggested a cheery yellow but was met with this faceEnvy not envy.

Therainisback · 17/01/2021 20:30

DD not WE, aagh.

kittlesticks · 17/01/2021 20:39

@MissConductUS I am going to look at pizza stones!

Sunbird24 · 17/01/2021 20:55

I’ve just made my smoothie to take to work with me tomorrow - frozen mixed berries, a bit of leftover mango, some carrot & cauliflower and a lot of almond milk. Sweetened with a spoonful of Nutella and a squeeze of honey! Just hope I remember to take it out of the fridge in the morning...

Frownette · 17/01/2021 21:00

Happy birthday @Nomnomarrgh!

I don't believe it, I walked to the garage, got distracted at the front door by discount rack, then spices section when I reached the aisle, so came home with curry powder, discount rolls, milk and a swede but forgot tomatoes.

Revised supper plan: mashed swede with butter and black pepper, fish, greens. Never go shopping when you're half awake (as well as never do it when you're hungry)

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 17/01/2021 21:03

@Sunbird24
I can't get my head around smoothies. I eat all the ingredients in their natural forms but not liquified together.

But that reminds me I have to chop carrots and peppers to take to work tomorrow and put a note on my coffe cup to remind me.

Sunbird24 · 17/01/2021 21:06

Meals in our work canteen tend to be a bit light on the fresh fruit & veg, so I got a blender for my birthday as it seems a good way to up my intake. Enjoying it so far!

EggyPegg · 17/01/2021 21:07

Happy birthday @Nomnomarrgh

@MissConductUS, I'm pleased to hear about your queue discipline.
Queue etiquette is very important to us Brits. However we feel that it is more important to have self-discipline. Any pushing in is not directly challenged. There will instead be some huffing and tutting from those already in the queue. Most Brits would not dare to push in as it simply isn't done.
It is however different if you ask politely. If say you have one item and there is one person in front of you who has twenty, that person will gladly let you go in front. Bring extra polite and a bit sheepish about asking is the key.

This might be too exciting for this thread, but tonight my children went to bed and neither of them came down even once. DS1 averages 4 reasons to come down every night, so this is quite the event.

Frownette · 17/01/2021 21:09

@Sunbird24 I think you said you have your own bathroom but shared kitchen? Do you go in in the morning for tea/coffee/water?

If you do you could emulate Prok and put a sticker on the fridge. Or write 'smoothie' o your forehead backwards so when you look in the mirror you're reminded.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 17/01/2021 21:12

My muffins were edible but not pretty - the oven is late 20th century IKEA and I think it is packing in ( only 2 of the four cooking thingies work). DH is resisting a new one bc. he is used to it.

MissConductUS · 17/01/2021 21:35

Happy Birthday @Nomnomarrgh!

@kittlesticks - the pizza stone works well, but not noticeably better than this, which is a lot less work:

Calphalon Classic Bakeware 16-Inch Round Nonstick Pizza Pan

It's also offered in toffee at a lower price and there are some other similar pans listed. The stone is very heavy, takes a long time to heat up and a long time to cool down.

Eggy, here people with a lot of shopping will often offer to let someone with only a few items go first, but I've never heard anyone asking. Pleading looks, certainly, but not directly asking. In New York, pushing in can be risky. Perhaps that's why it happens so seldom.

Happy birthday @Nomnomarrgh

My 11 year old cooked us some chicken shwarma tonight (I made the naan) and it turned out to be delicious! He was so proud of himself and is already planning for next time.

I just gave my 7 week old a bath and am feeding her. She's been lovely today. The days usually are easy enough. Hopefully tonight she sleeps well too.

halfpasteleven · 17/01/2021 23:35

Beautiful sunrise pics.. a peaceful start to the day.
DD had a restless night last night so I went for a nap this eve. I did a grocery shop this morning, then put it all away. Then DS wanted his dinner early so while I was prepping that it started to rain and did so for the rest of the day and evening. Which means I got no walk in today and I'm really feeling the effects.
There's a lot to be said for fresh out.

halfpasteleven · 17/01/2021 23:36

Fresh air even. See?!?!?!!!

Frownette · 17/01/2021 23:40

Tomorrow morning? You can check with met office to see how the weather will go?

MissConductUS what time is daughter off?

I'm about to get a cup of tea then watch hunger games. I have lots of biscuits on hand.

MissConductUS · 18/01/2021 00:23

@Frownette The plan is for her, DH and possibly DS to leave between 7:30 and 8:00. She is supposed to arrive between 11:00 and 1:00 and she wants to stop for an early lunch on the way. There's a chicken restaurant called Chick-Fil-A she loves that's not far from campus.

The weather for the drive looks fine. No precipitation, slightly overcast, high temp of around 10 degrees. They shouldn't see much traffic as it's a national holiday tomorrow.

Frownette · 18/01/2021 02:28

It's exciting for you all though you'll feel a bit like a mother hen without her chick for a while. How far away from you is it?

The hunger games is loooong. I just lost half a biscuit in my tea.

Silkiechickscat · 18/01/2021 03:30

The cat was just howling like she was the angriest cat in the world. DH went down and discovered she had just finished her food bowl and its 3.30am where is her 1st breakfast Angry Silkiecat
