I've started a new one. Please join us and share the boring and mundane things happening in your world. It will be calming for all.

Things continue at a snails pace. Having eventually logged in to the secure encrypted work server, half of what I need is not there. This is probably part of an ongoing IT issue and can only be dealt with by a specific department that only operate on "core hours" slackers

So it looks like my first few core hours work tomorrow will be spent speaking to IT support.

MissConductUS · 17/01/2021 12:51

Thank you @Spudlet and @Nydj, I'm sure we'll be fine. It was very similar two and a half years ago when DS left. One consolation is that DD will be considerable closer.

I'm going to pop out to the posh Italian grocery store to get a few things before Zoom church. I thought I'd leave you with these two pictures I took from the deck of the sunrise this morning. They were taken about 20 minutes apart.

Thank you for the photos - they’re absolutely gorgeous!

Sunbird24 · 17/01/2021 13:24

My covid test is negative - I’m free! Still feels naughty to be going out of the door instead of staying locked in behind it...

Spudlet · 17/01/2021 13:36

@EggyPegg No EHCP yet - tbh even if he went in, none of his classmates would be there and he’d be having to try and do the teams sessions at school, without his familiar teachers there or anything. I think it would be really upsetting for him. So even though he is driving me bonkers, I’d still rather have him at home. Think I’m going to postpone job hunting for a while until things have settled down, so I can focus on DS.

Went for my longest ever run this morning - 7.5 miles. It was a slog as it was very muddy and slippery in places so I ended up walking those bits, I had to feel ford a flooded stream (pic!), and by the end my hamstrings had tightened up so I did walk-run intervals. But I’m proud of myself for doing it anyway.

Thank you - the difficult task is still ahead of me - getting DS out into the open and into a decent work / free time rythm.

On sentimental news: we found about 50 little alu foil balls. Dcat used to chase after them until they ended up under the furniture, when he would ask for a new one.[/quote]
I get this every time I move the sofas to vacuum under them.

Our last cat was obsessed with chewing carrier bags. He’s been gone more than 12 years, but I found a bag of fabric in a storage box over Christmas which had his teethmarks in it. 😔 He was such a softie but very highly strung and had many behavioural issues because of his anxiety.

Yay sunbird , just me left then

Thoughts go to all of you struggling with DC, whether they be challenging or leaving home. For my part the worst we have to contend with is that we are now into the second hour of drum practice. Having successfully learnt to block out everything else, this is the one thing guaranteed to put DH's teeth on edge. So that's fun.

Sunbird24 · 17/01/2021 15:57

Ah Champers how long do you have left? Hopefully both drum practice and isolation are over soon!

DoctorTwo · 17/01/2021 16:04

To all those who asked and wished me well, thank you. I have a feeling it was this year's strain of 'flu. Trouble is, I take to my bed when I get this ill and can't eat. So this aggravated my pancreatitis (the cause of the vomiyin and retching). I'm on the mend but just exhausted. I don't think it was Covid as I retain my sense of smell, I really stank when I finally managed to get out of bed. :o

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 17/01/2021 16:07

NDN's DC (same age as mine) learned (now play) piano, drum and violin respectively, DD learned to play harp - when new pieces were due ...

I am happy to report that DS is sitting at his desk catching up on work - he no longer needs it, as he will repeat, but it's the principle.

EggyPegg · 17/01/2021 16:50

Well done on your long run @Spudlet. My RED January appears to have gone right out the window. I shall try again tomorrow.

Took the DC to the local woods for a stomp around. Marched everyone back to the car after 20 minutes as I'm sick of being literally ignored to my face.

Time for some noise cancelling headphones @Champagneforeveryone?

HildaTablet · 17/01/2021 16:54

I hope everyone who's under the weather and/or isolating is feeling not too bad.

We've had a surprisingly fine and sunny day here after yesterday morning's snow, so I finally dragged myself off round our village for a (short) walk. Experience tells me that the longer route is a bad idea at weekends as it's alarmingly busy lockdown, what lockdown?

In other dull news, I went out into the garden and hacked down various bits of vegetation and stuffed it in bags ready for eventual disposal. Our local council green bin (for garden waste) won't be collected again until March but I could easily fill it ten times over. In fact we have two bins and I could easily fill both of them ten times over. It's very frustrating but then again, we're lucky to have a big garden.

Champagneforeveryone · 17/01/2021 17:56

I'm free on Thursday, assuming I don't get sick in the meantime.

I'm pleased to announce that drum practice has ended, in favour of electric guitar practice our neighbours are true saints

Champagneforeveryone · 17/01/2021 17:58

Good Lord, the strike through curse is spreading Grin

Deathraystare · 17/01/2021 18:03

Nothing much to report cos I am such a slob! I still need to do some packing and also clean the kitchen and loo floor. I keep telling myself this all week! Must do it tonight!

At least it has been quiet at work (two hours to go), Friday was bedlam, everything happening once!

HeronLanyon · 17/01/2021 18:32

Just washed some newly delivered pyjamas - first ever adult pair I’ve ever owned - I think they may end up being ‘day wear’ they are so lovely. Days with no delivery to deal with no one will ever know !

kittlesticks · 17/01/2021 18:37

@MissConductUS lovely photos. Really peaceful. Sending you all good wishes for you all and your DD when she goes off to uni.
Released from isolation this afternoon (phew) and felt lovely to walk in the woods. Appreciating having some nice woods on the doorstep. The owl is still hooting every night but seems to be loudest around 5am.
Hopefully he's not completely alone.
Taking a walk helped this afternoon and DS ate his dinner so the atmosphere was a lot calmer.
In for a busy week at work so fingers crossed a decent nights rest is in store!
Take care all

Deathraystare · 17/01/2021 18:38

@Frownette

I don't know why so many people have them as chin warmers but it is a bit pointless isn't it? One of the domestics always comes in with it worn just around the chin. She goes on wards!!! She is such a happy soul I almost don't want to tell her to put her mask on properly, but I say that to all the chin warmers!

MissConductUS · 17/01/2021 18:57

Thank you, @kittlesticks. It is very peaceful here. DD is furiously packing, refusing all help. She'll probably be done soon.

There was a line of about a dozen people at the bakery when I went to pick up her cake. We all fit inside. Shortly after I got in line a man bursts through the door and is stunned and dismayed about the queue. He then came racing up to me so fast I thought he was going to push past me. The three women in front of me and I all turned around and gave him our best New York "Don't even think about it!" stares. He immediately backed up.

Queue discipline is better here than you might think. 😁

The cake is gorgeous. DD has requested homemade pizza for dinner tonight.

Do you just do the homemade pizza in a normal oven, @MissConductUS sorry to sound so clueless!

Squirrel26 · 17/01/2021 19:04

Inspired by @QuestionableMouse I have reorganised one of the kitchen cupboards, using some wire storage baskets I bought some time ago. (By 'some time' I mean somewhere between 1 and 3 years. Blush )

Then I cleaned the kitchen floor and washed the door mats and bath mats. Now I'm accidentally watching snooker on TV. I don't like snooker, so I'm going to change it.

MissConductUS · 17/01/2021 19:16

@kittlesticks I was skeptical too at first, but yes, you can do it in a normal oven at about 240 degrees Celsius. We use a metal pan or a pizza stone. We've been making it at home twice a week since last March. We buy the dough and sauce at the supermarket and its very quick and easy to make. It's also about half the cost of takeaway pizza and you get it exactly as you like it. You should try it!

OP posts:
Prokupatuscrakedatus · 17/01/2021 19:20

I like snooker - it's so calming, probably because I have no idea what they are doing.

I'll bake muffins with chocolate chips in a minute, for DS, it'd one of the few homemade baked things he'll eat.

QuestionableMouse · 17/01/2021 19:22

I've never inspired anyone to clean before. Feeling quite proud of myself now 😂😂😂

I fell on my bum today while walking the dog. It's really muddy and slick and I was in old trainers (with no grip!) and I went arse over tit. Ordered some hiking boots now which might be overkill! (But I don't want to fall again - it's pretty isolated where I walk and I don't want to get hurt and be stuck!!)

Frownette · 17/01/2021 19:22

Beautiful photos.

@Deathraystare quite aside from the impracticality of 'chin warmers' it's not a good look, is it?

I had an impromptu sleep this afternoon and just emerged from my duvet like a turtle sticking its head out from its shell. Must have been tired. I'm cancelling prime trial on Wednesday so have made a list of films I want to watch beforehand, I'll be going cross eyed.

How do you make your pizza base, MIssConductUS?

Champers come and join us in the negatives!
