Aren't you up really early, @MissConductUS? I'm a fine one to talk though.

Shopping just now was not a pleasant experience, I overbought and struggled home with a sore back. My coupon didn't scan so I put the items it applied to back which irritated the shop assistant (don't care, I want my 15% discount). I'll have a go later when my back's recovered. I think it was initially because I didn't switch from house Wi-Fi to mobile data.

Champagne is your lovely dog being buried in the garden?

EggyPegg · 16/01/2021 09:57

@MissConductUS, it was the middle of the night for you when you posted!

Mind you, I had a 'doh' moment this morning. I was thinking the other day that it's a shame I'm working on Wednesday as I wanted to watch the inauguration.

Then I remembered that Washington DC are five hours behind us and I get home from work at 8am EST (1pm GMT). So I'll be fine to watch the whole thing should I choose.

Pouring rain here too. I have just brought the milk in. I have no inclination to get out of my pyjamas and am about to make a fresh cup of tea.

Squirrel26 · 16/01/2021 10:39

I'm so sorry, @Champagneforeveryone. I hope your other DDogs are not too confused by it.

Have not done anything so far today. I was awake at 3.41am because the dog heard something interesting in the garden, and The it took me ages to get back to sleep. -May have been mindlessly scrolling through my phone.-

Squirrel26 · 16/01/2021 10:40

Oh no, I have caught the inability to strike through! Grin

Spudlet · 16/01/2021 10:43

Snowing here this morning! It’s turning to sleet a bit now but it did settle so we got out in it while the getting was good. DS started to build a snowman but then lost interest, so it’s just a heap. We also had a snowball fight and took the sledge out and went for a little walk - we even found a small slope that had enough snow to slide down. Only managed to be walking for 20 mini tree s before DS got too cold and had to be taken home, so we’re feeling a little shortchanged in daily exercise terms now. DH might walk to the shop in the next village (our closest one after the big flood at Christmas) for some essential supplies later - we’re running short of a few bits and bobs.

Nydj · 16/01/2021 11:11

I’m so sorry, @Champagneforeveryone.

MissConductUS, it was the middle of the night for you when you posted!

Yes, by Jove it was! As I have posted on a prior thread, I have a sleep maintenance disorder called early final awakening. I'm usually up by 4:00 AM, which is one reason I do my run so early and in complete darkness. I also go to bed early.

As I was leaving to go running I noticed that the washing machine was full, mostly of DS's things, so I started it before I left. When I came back, soaking wet from running in the pouring rain, I was taking the clothes out to put them in the tumble dryer when I noticed that DS had washed his navy blue blazzer/sport coat. It is, of course, dry clean only. In fact it had the dry cleaners tag still stapled to the inside pocket.

Sigh. It is probably ruined but I hung it up to dry. It's not pure wool, it's some wool synthetic blend. It's also 3 years old and wasn't terribly expensive so if we have to replace it, it won't be a crisis. I just wish he'd be a little more careful with his laundry.

My running shoes are now on the heating vents to dry them out and I have more laundry going. The rest of the house is still fast asleep.

EggyPegg · 16/01/2021 11:46

I remember your post about your sleep disorder, just didn't realise it was literally the middle of the night you'd wake.

Fingers crossed the blazer survives. If it's a synthetic blend, it might be okay.

sueelleker · 16/01/2021 11:52

I made a litre of greek yogurt the other day, from a sachet of Easy-Yo that I found at the back of the cupboard. So yesterday I made some yogurt soda bread, and I'm eating some for lunch.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 16/01/2021 11:53

To prepare DS for a more successful final year, we are re-establishing a strict division between freetime / sleep / gaming = his room and work = a newly to be created workspace next to mine in the "big hall of living".
None of the pieces of furniture in this room are currently in place and - oh the dust!!

And I am reading up on AS/ADHD coaching (again) - there is always sth new we hadn't thought about!

Squirrel26 · 16/01/2021 11:55

Have put a wash on. I should go and process the dry washing upstairs, but I seem to be stuck to this armchair.

QuestionableMouse · 16/01/2021 12:51

Just eaten a stack of French toast with the last of my good maple syrup. First time I've had it for ages and I really enjoyed it.

Going to organise my baking cupboard now and do a bit of baking.

atz333 · 16/01/2021 12:53

Thanks everyone for your advice on baby carriers. I've been looking into them and will probably make a purchase this weekend but a bit undecided on what type to get. A few YT reviews should sort that out alongside your recommendations.
I have a 14 and 11 year old; it has been a long time so that's probably why it seems like I'm a ftm. I definitely feel like one tbh!

The last few days have been easier. My husband has taken over the early morning feed. He works during the week so I don't want to overwhelm him too much but he has been great. He gets a load of washing/drying done for her every evening. He gets the bottles etc all ready for night feeds. Anything he can help with, he will do.
Overall things are better. Little one is sleeping a little better aside from some reflux issues, mostly between 4am-7am-ish. That I can manage. I'm still not fully feeling myself but knowing I will have someone to talk to on Thursday keeps me going somewhat.

The older two have been fantastic. They've been so helpful and sweet with their new sister. My 11 year old did have a few days of being teary because he misses how much time I had for him before compared to now. I try and give him more hugs and chats which have helped.

We're getting there, I think.

atz333 · 16/01/2021 12:55

I had a relaxing morning. Baby had her milk at 9.30 which I came downstairs for. She went to sleep and I managed to have a peaceful toast with tea. Everyone else was asleep until 11.30 so the quiet time was lovely.

Champagneforeveryone · 16/01/2021 13:12

Thank you for all your good wishes. We stayed up till the early hours of the morning and are both a little jaded as a result. Oh to be young again!

DDog3 is behaving very oddly. She feels the cold terribly and as a result is the only one allowed on the sofa out the draught. She spent most of last night huddled in DDog1's bed, wide awake and just staring. DDog2 by contrast is unconcerned and seems unaware that anything is amiss.

We know the decision was the right one and we gave him the best chance. The vet now thinks it was likely a tumour (which I had suggested all along, but that's another story) and given his age we wouldn't have put him through invasive surgery, so at least we're not wondering if there's more we could have done.

HeronLanyon · 16/01/2021 13:14

Took a long deep smell of some newly delivered dill seeds - going to make some dilly bread with cottage cheese and onion flakes. A newly discovered fave recipe. Lashings o’ butter ahoy. Obviously.

HeronLanyon · 16/01/2021 13:18

champagne so sorry and it is so tough. It is odd how other animals can react (or not). As for us it is just awful but you did absolutely the right thing by your lovely ddog.
I’ll be thinking of you and also beloved pets of mine when baking later today.
Flowers

Frownette · 16/01/2021 13:30

@atz333 you sound a lot happier now :)

@MissConductUS might be ok - I usually do wool blend and silk cashmere knits on a normal wash.

@HeronLanyon I'm glad you mentioned cooking, that's reminded me I must go and eat lunch before I set off. What are you baking?

QuestionableMouse · 16/01/2021 13:45

I'm catching up with this thread. I'm so sorry @Champagneforeveryone. ☹️☹️☹️☹️

Cupboard before (please don't judge me 😂😊)

Come and tell me your dull and unexciting news 10: Calmly through the day
HeronLanyon · 16/01/2021 14:15

frownette Dilly Bread. No knead. Cooked in le creuset. Really tasty. Has cottage cheese and dill seed and onion flakes. Doesn’t last long here. Hardly has a chance to cool properly before it’s half gone.

Champagneforeveryone · 16/01/2021 14:20

heron that sounds lovely, do you have the recipe at all? I could do with something to fill the rest of self isolation.

In dull and unexciting news (and inspired by heron upthread) I will share with you that DDog3 (who is full of attitude and is what my grandfather would describe as "a bit of a gobshite") is mortally afraid of herons. This always makes me chuckle inexplicably, and I find it quite endearing. She scours the riverbank with a very jaundiced eye when we go that way Grin

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 16/01/2021 14:20

@QuestionableMouse - I need an after picture, please!
Regarding tidying - I can report that I have indeed created an additional workspace with desk, room for books and files, enough outlets for laptop and lamp.

On my way I have found 10 packs of fabric dye for use in washing machines, some in questionable colours (pink, pinker and pinkest) - which will go to a good home.

HeronLanyon · 16/01/2021 14:32

Champagne here.
www.allrecipes.com/recipe/260781/angies-dilly-casserole-bread/
Last time mine came out a bit fragile - am going to experiment with maybe a bit less flour or another half egg or maybe drain the cottage cheese better. Also gonna use ‘proper’ dried yeast not ‘instant’ which I had bought by mistake.

HeronLanyon · 16/01/2021 14:37

Odd heron fact - old country name is shitpoke and shitpike and lots of similar variations. If ever you’ve seen one startled and flying up suddenly the way they excavate their bowels as they rise explains it!
As we were. Apols.
