@HelenaJustina
Gin night is always a good idea!

I will now take DS to have his blood taken again and hold his hand during the ordeal.

Frownette · 15/01/2021 06:59

Helena I can be like that, I think it's a rush of relief at the end of the week. Did you get the time off?

I'm off for breakfast soon, probably grapefruit then fried egg on toast. Tempted by the sticky toffee pudding though.

Sunbird24 · 15/01/2021 11:14

Just done my test - oh dear lord the gagging! 😳 I don’t have any tonsils and I think I gagged before the swab even got near touching anything! Done my best though, now just need to get it into a priority postbox...

TenCornMaidens · 15/01/2021 11:29

Just collected my click and collect shopping.

My dd's birthday is tomorrow and I need to do some preparation, like making her cake. Bit droopy so will do it in a minute.

Welcome, @Nomnomarrgh, and thanks for sharing your birthday shopping news.

Eggy. that toilet paper loo roll holder is adorable. We just stack a few on the cistern. Barbarians we are. Smile

@Sunbird24 - if you're taking a sample for a PCR test, they are very sensitive. It should be fine.

@Silkiechickscat - I'm sorry you're struggling with an uncooperative DS and no financial support. Selling a house is usually a nightmare.

I'm wfh today and about to run out to do a quick shop before the workday starts.

We had a lovely brunch together and then DS got a small package through the door. Turned out to be a "lockdown survival kit" from his Explorer group, just little bits like a packet of tissues (to dry your tears) a packet of lovehearts (so you know people care about you) and so on. DS was slightly touched and we have spent 20 minutes playing with his smiley face balloon, which is probably exactly the point of the package.

Now DH has taken DDog2 for a walk. A wobbly moment where DDog3 got very upset and was whining and pawing at DDog1 - he seems to be fine, if a little bit pissed off she woke him up but it's a reminder that all is still not well with him.

HeronLanyon · 15/01/2021 14:00

So looking forward to a steamed potato salad with dill/crème fraîche dressing tonight. Small touch of warmer times. Might out a dab of sun crème on.
I also manage to eat remarkable amounts of potato (and pasta and rice) so had light lunch. Will be hungry.

@MissConductUS as I celebrate the end of the working week I suddenly had a pant of guilt as I think that your DD leaves for her university accommodation this weekend? I hope things go well in taking her to the new accommodation and her stay there

Sunbird24 · 15/01/2021 14:52

Having chucked my covid test out the window to someone who could get it to a postbox for me, I then ate an entire box of orange matchmakers in about 10 mins. Now my stomach is gurgling like crazy!

HildaTablet · 15/01/2021 15:12

I am eating a slice of home-made Christmas cake and drinking tea and the sun has come out. Suddenly it’s a lovely, if cold, afternoon.

We’re having mushroom risotto for dinner as there’s a box of chestnut mushrooms that needs using up we’re down to the dregs I have a click & collect order ready for Monday but haven’t used our local branch of Waitrose for this before because I’ve never been able to get a slot. I literally grabbed the only one available in the entire 2 weeks showing - I think someone must have just cancelled when I logged in.

Thanks. She's going up on Monday. Only one parent is allowed to accompany her and it will probably be DH as I'm trying to get in to see my periodontist on Monday so he can marvel at my ability to break objects made from titanium. The lone parent isn't even allowed into the residence hall.

She's a bit apprehensive about it but really excited at the same time. She has lovely housing with a single room and has been meeting with the crew team and coach over Zoom. I've ordered her favorite chocolate mousse cake from the bakery so that we can have a little going away party this weekend. She did extremely well in her courses over the fall so there's no concern about her being able to handle the work.

My baby is leaving though! Sad

You are indeed fortunate hilda , we have three Waitrose to choose from and I cannot get a click and collect slot anywhere. I haven't even seen a delivery slot since before March, despite getting weekly deliveries prior to this.

Nydj · 15/01/2021 15:27

Oh it’s tough when they go. I hope she has a lovely time. It’s good that your DS is home though

MissConductUS · 15/01/2021 15:40

It is. I thought we were going to be empty nesters last fall. Now that won't happen until next fall. DS has talked about doing a summer internship in Massachusettes this summer but I think that will probably be remote as well unless we see a massive improvement in the covid situation.

In other news, Dgirlcat didn't want to eat her breakfast this morning, which is quite unusual. I was concerned we were going to have to take her to the vet. Then she appeared an hour later and was happy to eat. The difference was the Dboycat was present the first time and not the second. I think they're having a bit of a tiff.

As copy shops are closed DH had to print, fold, envelope and post 350 letters on his own - he was seriously unimpressed but couldn't rope his loving family in as we were all busy with uni, school and life matters.

HelenaJustina · 15/01/2021 17:57

@Frownette I did not, and in fact am still at work now! Hey ho, maybe next week!

Frownette · 15/01/2021 18:05

Next week it is, don't feel bad if you need the time.

Sunset24 I can sympathise, it's no fun trying to do the throat bit, wish they'd stick to nose only.

I just made a rich tomato sauce to go with fish and basmati rice. It was surprisingly nice for its simplicity.

Therainisback · 15/01/2021 18:26

I've just made yoghurt with the goat's milk - I couldn't detect a goaty smell.I'm the only one who eats natural yoghurt in our house. It will be ready tomorrow.
I went for walk up onto the edge of the moors this afternoon, it was gorgeous, a little bit snowy & frozen, so not too muddy. I should have gone for a run but the pavements were so icy I chickened out.

Therainisback · 15/01/2021 18:31

@Therainisback
Looks cold and muddy but calm!

soddingkitten · 15/01/2021 18:51

Dinner from Lidl for us tonight, a heavily reduced salmon Wellington with a creamy dill sauce. I saw it in the freezer section last week but couldn’t carry any more shopping. They’d moved it this week and I panicked, thinking it had sold out.

I have done over 12k steps today. Pre-COVID that was average. As things stand, it’s my second highest count in the last month and well above average.

Sodding just bit me. I get the impression he is touched out most days by dinner time because, with everyone home, he is petted and cuddled from dawn to dusk.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 15/01/2021 19:52

We are going to bake tomorrow - sth with apple, cinneamon, walnut and raisins for DH, sth with chocolate chips for DC and me.

kittlesticks · 15/01/2021 20:11

@MissConductUS thanks for the tip, she had some last night and yes I think once she was asleep it might have worked to keep her from fussing, she ended up dozing off in bed with us and then I managed to put her into her cot - amazing progress!
DCat ruling to roost now that both kids are asleep (DD probably temporarily)

@Therainisback - Icy roads are about the only thing that will stop me from running. It's way too easy to slip, fall and break a bone that will leave you stranded. Lovely picture of the moor.

Sodding, you have me beat as I'm at a measly 9k steps today. I always walk less when working from home. Cats are very sensitive to too much touching, esp. when tired. I've gotten nipped by Dboycat a few times when I've forgotten this.

Today is the first day I've been home while DS is doing his internship. He looks funny good in a nice dress shirt and sweatpants.
