How to keep a hat on at night?

Snowbored · 08/01/2021 06:09

Woke up again with a colder than freezing cold draught over my head. I start the night wearing a beanie, I have a pillow upright against the end of the bed but I always wake with a cold head and my hat keeping the pillow warm. Is there a trick? A better suited style of hat?

You need a knitted bonnet that ties or buttons under your chin. Get someone to knit you one.

Finfintytint · 08/01/2021 06:13

Where’s the draught coming from?

gnomeisland · 08/01/2021 06:19

Balaclava

Eminybob · 08/01/2021 06:41

Snood?

Snowbored · 08/01/2021 06:51

Draught is from the window which is unfortunately partially above my bed.
Isn't a snood a scarf? Wouldn't it be tight on the neck if you don't pull it on properly? Will give it a go as I have one of those.

I had an aunt that used to wear a pair of knickers on her head in bed to stop her curls falling out overnight
Might be worth a try

InTheLongGrass · 08/01/2021 06:55

I'd suspect youd need to sdale up a baby bonnet pattern!

some sort of ultra thin balaclava couldcwork if youbtyrought it would be warm enough?

Do you open the window? If not, I'd stuff the joints with newspaper, then pull the window shut again.

Divebar · 08/01/2021 06:56

Can’t you deal with the window?

OrangeGinLemonFanta · 08/01/2021 06:57

Bad idea to sleep with anything tied round your throat. Please don't! Surely dealing with the draught is a better idea? Draught excluder tape, secondary glazing film, even something like a gro blind.

Put your head at the other end of the bed. Put socks on.

Yes, the window is open. DH won't sleep with a closed window 🙄 Could ask my mum if she still has some baby patterns...but she might start asking questions 🤣

I'd be another one sleeping at the bottom of the bed with my feet at the chilly end, I'd wear thick socks. I don't think I could sleep with a hat on, certainly not with anything fastened under my chin.

Long term though id be sorting out the draft or moving the bed if that's possible.

I like a window open but at worst it means my dh wears a tshirt. I'd never open it if he then needed to wear a hat to bed. Entirely unreasonable on his part.
NannyR · 08/01/2021 07:22

Tucking your curtains up on the windowsill stops drafts from windows, but I agree with other posters - if having the window open is making you that cold that you need to sleep in a hat then your dh needs to find some other way of cooling down.

merrymouse · 08/01/2021 07:24

Hooded top?

tinseloatcake · 08/01/2021 07:24

Move the bed?

bellagogosdead · 08/01/2021 07:29

Shut the window and your dh will have to lump it. Or you can talk to him nicely about the fact you have tried sleeping with window open and it's not working for you- he will need to find a solution.

Dotinthecity · 08/01/2021 07:30

Sleep in a hoody?

JacobReesMogadishu · 08/01/2021 07:30

Move into the spare room.

Get a cat? Ours loved to sleep on someone's head which is fine until he starts grooming them at 3am. 😂

ScrapThatThen · 08/01/2021 07:34

Oh come on, DH get your act together this is so unreasonable at this time of year!

Well this is bloody unfair - why is it up to him?

Maybe he could sleep downstairs with the window open? Or in the car??!

I don't think I'd be researching patterns myself.
