Another thread in the saga filled up (so no forwards link)

I think maybe we're endurance athletes, or maybe multievent like a decathlon Grin

Exercise DVD music is always terrible, though. (This is a household of classical musicians.) What’s wrong with her apart from the music, bearing in mind that I hate exercise for exercise’s sake with every fibre of my being?

GarlandaChynoweth · 03/01/2021 20:19

8 deaths in my MSOA, edge of smallish South West market town. 1 April, 6 May, 1 November. We have 2 or 3 care homes I think.

I'm usually a body attack and body pump fanatic. Just gone into tier 3 so that's that for goodness know how long. I subscribe to LMOD but it's just not the same at home and is it just me who finds some of the pump presenters mind blowingly irritating?

SirSamuelVimes · 03/01/2021 20:21

Hello all. Just making sure I don't lose you. Buggering off again to eat a baked camembert whole you lot talk about exercise!

(4 deaths in my town since march, works out at 0.006 of the population. Ffs.)

Fair enough. I just find it all very repetitive. And I love pop, so a lot of workouts, I can enjoy the music. I've even found new dance/synth bands from workouts, though my online streaming is so huge, I couldn't tell you which bands I discovered where.
Curlygirl06 · 03/01/2021 20:31

6 in our area, last one in June, cluster of 3 in April/May. Mind you, we've got a lot of nursing homes around here. Wiltshire/Somerset/Dorset border.

rosettesforjill · 03/01/2021 20:32

Oh my, I've just remembered the Ministry of Sound Hotpants Workout I had many moons ago. It was completely bonkers and so funny - I will have to try to find it!

Jourdain11 · 03/01/2021 20:44

Found y'all!

I feel very down tonight. DH is grumpy because he has left all his planning till the last minute for school. DD2 and DS have been fighting all day because they're kids and they're bored. DD1 has been crying on and off most of the day and saying she wants to be dead. And I've got chemo tomorrow, although really that is A Good Thing.

I need to dredge up some positivity but bloody hell, it would be easier if there was something for the kids to do outside the walls of our gardenless abode.

DrDiva · 03/01/2021 20:45

Hello, thank you for the new thread!

This elite athlete is walking around like a constipated cowboy as her foof is feeling the effects of a few days’ cycling. Owwww... Grin padded shorts have been ordered.

We've just had a camembert and a brie. Alas, I will never be an elite athlete.
thenightsky · 03/01/2021 21:00

Ah, here you all are. Thought I'd lost you for a while there.

MagdaS · 03/01/2021 21:03

Checking in, still here, still enjoying the sanity.

TabbyStar · 03/01/2021 21:12

I don't do BodyPump much (I do a separate kettlebells thing, which I prefer) but find a lot of the other presenters irritating. Especially BodyBalance. I also get annoyed when they pan out or have a weird camera angle so you can't quite see what they're doing with BodyAttack or BodyStep in particular (once I sat and cried on my step because I couldn't work out what was going on and it was one of those last straw type situations!)

BogRollBOGOF · 03/01/2021 21:26

My lockdown discovery was Mr Motivator. Not discovered, discovered as I remember him circa 1993, and he's certainly a good advert for the power of exercise over the years! He's on youtube doing a weekly 12 min video, fusing his classic unitard and bum bag look with modern tikiboo prints Grin

They're good fun and very accessible. I like them as a warm up to running.

I'm not into Joe Wick's style. Too many burpees and press-ups and it's too easy to pull a muscle. He looks good, but his voice doesn't do it for me!
I managed to get PE with Joe on for 40 seconds on 24th March before conceding that I just don't have the right kids for that malarky.

Yoga with Adriene is my other youtube fitness love. She's doing a 30 day series with a new video each day (Breath). Yesterday, her video had half a million views on its first day!

Had a good dance in the kitchen to Weird Al's Jurrasic Park, then played the original MacArthur's Park to the total bewilderment of the DCs. Grin

My DNs discovered Andy from Andy's Dinosaur Adventures doing an exercise thing in the first lockdown and JW was ditched without ceremony.

Andy is a GOD in our family Grin

Seriouslymole · 03/01/2021 21:29

Phew - had a small panic that I’d lost you all and got very despondent reading some of the lunacy on here tonight. Nice to have found you - although it has made me miss body combat hugely and no, I don’t find doing it online any good at all!

Had an email from DS’ school in response to mine about asking them all to wear masks all day saying they are “strongly encouraging” it but won’t be enforcing it and there will be no sanctions for those students who opt out, which sounds great but I wonder what message they will actually get when they are back.

1...yes one... death in our area over the whole time. FFS.

wanderings · 03/01/2021 21:40

The more I think about all this, the more sure I am the government is playing with our heads for shits and giggles, by hinting at the school closures. I'm sure they exaggerated the "new strain" to scare the plebs just before Christmas, and now they have to stick to that fairy tale (inventing the numbers to "prove" it) until the vaccine has some notable effect, at which point they will go to the other extreme.

I have a bit of a moral dilemma here: last month I was working in a school, providing extra help for pupils. If the school reopens this month (very big "if"), they are offering weekly testing, saying it's entirely optional. While most of me thinks it would be the right thing to do, I do want to resist testing if I possibly can; because more testing means more cases are found, and the government (and "over there" on Mumsnet) are deliberately turning this into "Loook!!!!!!!!!! The virus is getting WORSE!!!!!!" Maybe this personal rebellion would be a step too far, even to the lovely people in this oasis of sanity (the AD thread).

Timmytimeout · 03/01/2021 21:47

Checking in!

We've had 6 deaths here, all in April and may, none since and we have quite a few care homes and a hospice. We are tier 4.

I get asymptomatic testing offered through work but I've never seen the point. I could contact covid walking out of the testing center and never know about it anyway and what with home schooling and working from home I will have no time to faff about in testing centers.

ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson · 03/01/2021 21:47

@BogRollBOGOF, I love Adriene too - haven't started this year's 30-day programme, but I've been religiously doing one of her old ones through the Christmas holidays, and I do feel physically a bit better for it.

@wanderings, I think my view on testing would depend very much who else i was in contact with. I've never been remotely worried about Covid for me, but have worried about giving it to my mother and MIL. But if they weren't in the picture, I wouldn't be happy to have a test if I didn't have any symptoms. (Has anyone definitively discovered whether asymptomatic, as opposed to pre-symptomatic, people can infect other people easily?)

Timmytimeout · 03/01/2021 21:49

Contract!

Vintagelovingmum · 03/01/2021 21:57

@ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson I actually saw this article from the BMJ earlier about asymptomatic transmission which is interesting

Lostinacloud · 03/01/2021 22:06

Anyone seen that poor lady’s thread about lying to her DD’s school that they have to isolate so she can go and bring her 84 year old DF to her house as the poor bloke isn’t eating or coping with the isolation? I’ve said it before a few times around the boards but for me, the moment the very people we are all living this half life to protect become compromised then is is time to ignore all restrictions and roolz and just do what you need to do to look after your own family. So sad.

Recycledblonde · 03/01/2021 22:08

If they bring in a curfew I pity the poor sods who have to police me, I’ll have to break curfew every time I go to work.

NannyGythaOgg · 03/01/2021 22:14

The thread around being scared is interesting. I only read the first 100 posts but, it being one of those threads that most people post an opinion without reading many (if any) other posts, it is staying mostly civilised. I would say about 60 to 70% not scared, another 20% scared for their relatives not themselves and only about 10%, if that, that are totally petrified. Only half a dozen or so telling people how they should feel too.

ConcussedPigeon · 03/01/2021 22:18

12 deaths in our postcode - Birmingham suburb. 12 March-May, 1 August, 1 November. Currently showing a (gasp!) 400% increase in cases this week, which equates to 4 more people, ie. a household.

And we’ve just had a message to say our primary is closed now because teachers aren’t going in due to union advice.

FFS.

Sonicthehedgehogg · 03/01/2021 22:20

It would be helpful if they had some form of universally agreed definition of "safe" before withdrawing. How will we know when they consider it "safe" to return? When they're vaccinated? When everyone else is? When the pandemic is declared over?
