Another thread in the saga filled up (so no forwards link)

I think maybe we're endurance athletes, or maybe multievent like a decathlon Grin

@LadyOfTheImprovisedBath

I've gone on more walks than I ever have in my life these past 9 months and ironically never done less walking overall since I hit adulthood.

As none drivers we usually walk to get places but there's nowhere to go so less everyday back and forth walking with corresponding ill effects on DH and my weights.

Yes, I've done much less incidental walking. Any walking has been about 'going for exercise' and doesn't make up for just living a busy life. Any exercise has took me out of the house away from the kids ( who can't be persuaded to come for yet another walk) and so it's come with a tinge of guilt too.

In a parallel universe, I'd be having my magic the gathering session now,

ISaySteadyOn · 03/01/2021 17:44

Magic! Thank you! Reminds me to get our
decks out. They're old but still fun. Do you have names for yours? I have a really good one that I refer to as my 'flight deck'

NeedWineNow · 03/01/2021 17:47

I've just looked at the map. In my area we have had 13 deaths over all months - 11 of those were in May - and nothing since June. We've got a couple of care homes and a sheltered housing development.

I feel like this is never ending and am quite depressed today.

MercyBooth · 03/01/2021 17:57

That fucking Chris Hopson. Cant stand the twat.

ISaySteadyOn · 03/01/2021 18:13

11 here. 10 in April, 1 in May and 0 since.

@Hawkins001, DD wants to ask what your best Magic! card ever was.

Pleasedontdothat · 03/01/2021 18:15

6 here ... 2 in March, 4 in April and a big fat zero since then - plague central indeed ..

TabbyStar · 03/01/2021 18:17

God I miss the weights room, and resistance training....and grit...and body combat....

Les Mills online at home has been one of the better things for me in the lockdown. I'm finding I'm doing more "going for walks" and running (as opposed to the gym and swimming) but my phone tells me I'm still not doing as many steps as I did last year because of all the incidental walking.

I wonder if old people's homes explains an uncharacteristic number for a nearby neighbourhood. I can think of a couple that probably fall in that boundary.

My MSOA is significantly higher than the other two in our town but we have both the large care homes in ours and only small ones in other areas (I'm not sure if it explains this on the map, but MSOAs are the geographical areas that they are using - the idea is that each contains a similar population so that you can compare better between them than you can with Parliamentary constituencies or local authority boundaries that have different population numbers)

MoltenLasagne · 03/01/2021 18:18

Seems like everyone had a LOT early in the year with much less in the recent data.

I'm torn between hoping there is an uptick when December data gets released (to justify the lockdowns) and of course really hoping that there isn't.

Me either @MercyBooth He's got a face I'd never get sick of punching.
BogRollBOGOF · 03/01/2021 18:19

The lack of incidental walking was horrible March-Sep. I used to walk up and down a section of road about 16x a week on functional walks. Only about 300-400m, but with my dreadful timekeeping, it's always done briskly to arrive in the nick of time so it's actually quite a healthy burst in addition to my formalexercise. Still not back at full steam, just the school run, but those 10-11 trips out make such a difference.

I can't fake it either. I need that external motivation to push me into action for a certain time. Just ambling out for the sake of it doesn't push my pace and has no motivation power.

The D's would call me all sorts for it, but I need to get them up and out for school as that routine. I now understand why DM was so dogged about driving me to school for so long (I finally got the bus at 15 when she broke her arm), because after dad died, she needed that purpose to get up, dressed and out. (If I didn't have the DCs I'd still be a teacher and this would be a different story Wink )

Debating whether to start a thread with the ONS data on the C board. If it wakes up one person....

LivinLaVidaLoki · 03/01/2021 18:21

@TabbyStar I signed up to LMOD last March and I do love it, it's kept me active but it just doesn't feel the same. I know it sounds ridiculous but I'm quite competitive and a bit of a swot so I always push myself harder at the gym. Also I don't always feel completely "in it" as I'm always conscious that DS could bob in and interrupt or something, so the escapism is a bit lost.

Like I said I know that sounds ridiculous.

@acornautumn they're back to accusing people of being Russian bots or government plants, so I wouldn't bother. It's utter fucking madness.
AcornAutumn · 03/01/2021 18:25

Livin thanks for the tip.

BogRollBOGOF · 03/01/2021 18:26

Wow! My whole city had 0 deaths in September and 3 in August!

My neighbourhood was 5 in April and 3 in November.

LivinLaVidaLoki I know what you mean, I'm sometimes a bit half-hearted I must admit, but I do something most days and I'm doing a greater range of exercise than I did before - my gym didn't offer BodyAttack whereas that's one of my favourite at home. I can't do everything in the Les Mills classes for a range of injury reasons (although my cardio fitness is pretty good) and I'm too self-conscious to go to classes at the gym and have to do something different from everyone else, so I stopped going, whereas this has made me start again. It's swimming I really miss though.

CruCru · 03/01/2021 18:28

I can’t see any reason for Government plants or Russian bots to bother posting on Mumsnet. It would cost a fortune for pretty much no gain.

Not ridiculous at all. I work far harder and can concentrate on it out of the house.

Indoors I only do yoga or short videos of 20 mins or less.

And it's too hot without decent ventilation!

@TabbyStar same here! I love body attack.

I mean I suppose doing something is better than nothing.

Though I'm struggling to see the difference between a sprawl and a burpee.....

Just had a thought about schools. Am I being an awful human for getting cross about people lying to schools saying they have to self isolate to keep their children safe at home.

Surely if the school thinks they've a high number of children self isolating then it makes the picture look worse than it is? Also, fucking own your decision. If you believe in it enough, pay the fucking fine.

110APiccadilly · 03/01/2021 18:33

My area has had one death on the map. Not this month, over the whole pandemic.

Weedsnseeds1 · 03/01/2021 18:34

3 deaths here, in April.
One of the schools threads had a put in your postcode to find cases near your school. Ours was about 300 (double the entire county figure) which looks alarming. Except it gives cases per 100 000 and our population is

I know, it's ridiculous. There is a thread about how the BBC shouldn't have run with the paeds matron story without checking it, as it's caused a lot of panic and worry and it is literally half full of posters being accused of being bots or plants or some huge conspiracy to silence frontline workers....
MaudesMum · 03/01/2021 18:39

I've never been athletic, but I do love walking. And my plan had been to get fit (and thin) enough for a walking holiday as part of my 60th birthday celebrations in the spring. I hadn't decided where, but I enjoy walking in warmer countries, so ideally it would be between April and June (as any later it would be too hot). However at the moment I have absolutely no motivation whatsoever to get fit, as I have no confidence that it will happen.
