Another thread in the saga filled up (so no forwards link)

I think maybe we're endurance athletes, or maybe multievent like a decathlon Grin

What are AD's Blush

smallandimperfectlyformed · 03/01/2021 18:58

@Iwonder777 there's an explanation on the first page, I can't do quotes so can't put it for you either but basically ad's stands for antidementors - a reference to the Harry Potter dementor creatures who suck all of the joy out of everything. @MrsMerrick good to see you! My children's teachers seemed to like seeing their students too!

Nordstrom · 03/01/2021 19:12

De-lurking to say hello. I've been reading on and off for some time and many of your chats have kept me feeling sane in this mad world!

MargosKaftan · 03/01/2021 19:12

Hmm, about as far from being an athelte as you can get - back in work tomorrow and trying to work out what I can wear without fear of buttons bursting.

I'm comfort eating whilst there's treat food in the house. Bad combo.

Sonicthehedgehogg · 03/01/2021 19:15

I used to love bodypump but don't want to spend the money on LMOD as it just wont be the same. I miss my lovely PT/pump instructor shouting at me and telling me to put more weights on, because she knew I wasn't challenging myself. I'll wimp out on my own.

Aztectrousers · 03/01/2021 19:16

Just looked at the ONS website and in my postcode we have had 9 deaths since March and nothing since June. There is a care home and a hospice in the area as well. Seems very low.
Anyhow, feeling very down today. It’s a complete farce and what the hell is going on with the vaccinations? Are they really talking about mixing them or is this fake news? I just don’t believe anything any more.
I’ve taken to watching horror movies on Netflix to cheer me up!!

llovetheshippingforecast · 03/01/2021 19:20

16 for me. No care homes. V rural East Sussex. Until Nov. Will be higher now as we are Tier 4.
69 In the local authority. Which for a rural area is shocking.

Reedwarbler · 03/01/2021 19:23

There have been 5 deaths in our area, and none since the Spring. (Thank you for that link). We have a lot of oap homes and the majority of cases have been in there anyway. This is a rural and sparsely occupied area with houses spread out, which I think is a real help in reducing spread among the general population. No public transport to speak of and one shop for 3 villages.
Are we getting that beast from the east, do you think? Been looking at the charts and can't decide if it's just (more) hype.

flower11 · 03/01/2021 19:26

I've had an email from school to say open as expected on Tuesday, they expect all children to attend. This is primary in tier 3. Head is a no nonsense, salt of the earth type. Has been can do throughout with bags and pe kit in as usual, they even had their Christmas lunch as usual. I'm lucky to have such a good school.

SufferingFromLongLockdown · 03/01/2021 19:26

4 here, in March, April and November. We're in quite a densely populated area with lots of Street houses and no gardens.
Our neighbouring more affluent area - large houses and gardens has 16.
I think they have at least two care homes in the nicer area.
Other than that, I wouldn't think the ratio of elderly to younger people would be much different in each area.

Just emailed by brother to ask if he's submitted his s44... just got back "LOL"
LivinLaVidaLoki · 03/01/2021 19:38

Our head sent a message out saying school was open just after 6.

To give it some context, 530,841 people died in England and Wales last year, that's about 1,450 a day. Deaths from pneumonia range from 25,419 to 29,847 a year, so 69-82 per day. The population of England and Wales is around 59.5m, so you'd expect a local authority area of 550k like East Sussex to have about 13.4 deaths each day in total, and using the lower figure, about 4.5 deaths from pneumonia each week, so something like 150 from April to November.

Checking in! I’m also doing much less exercise without the routine of school and work. DD and I are going to revert to my horrendous Jillian Michaels DVDs - there were several meltdowns about those in lockdown 1.

ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson · 03/01/2021 20:01

Oh, and 11 deaths for my area since March. That was worth it....

oldnormalplease · 03/01/2021 20:01

Hello all, long time lurker, thank you for keeping me semi-sane. I put my postcode into the ONS website and found we've had EIGHT deaths over all months. I live in a small commuter town on the very edge of London. Hmm

ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson · 03/01/2021 20:02

That’s London, by the way.

ISaySteadyOn · 03/01/2021 20:03

Yes, I am London too.

AaahWoof · 03/01/2021 20:03

Well one of my kids' teachers is now all over the school twitter account (she runs it and it's very obvious when it's her tweeting style) retweeting and getting involved in internet bun fights over how in peril poor teachers are.

Can see poor DD2 having a wretched time when she goes back - she's very anxious anyway and this cow filled her head with so much covid nonsense in September she was terrified of keeping to all the rules - but there's no way DD2 will consent to being off.

In a normal world the shit that this woman is tweeting in the bloody school's name would be grounds for being disciplined for social media policy abuse - but this is one of those "head's buddies who's been there 20 years and is untouchable" deals that happens in schools sometimes.

I think it's worth sharing that ONS link as far as you can. Obviously some people will hate it because they want drama, but there are scared people out there who will be reassured.

Also you could do the "have you SEEN the official number of deaths for your area" and wait for them to deflate.

I walk past four care homes en route to the station!

Why? Those are horrible, shit music too. So many fun options out there!
ProfessorRadcliffeEmerson · 03/01/2021 20:11

Exercise is never fun, and they have the benefit of being both short and really effective!

Sonicthehedgehogg · 03/01/2021 20:12

Jillian Michaels and Joe wicks can get in the fucking bin, the pair of 'em.

AaahWoof · 03/01/2021 20:13

Just a polite reminder to people - tempers are running high and people are feeling rather brave behind their keyboards tonight. Don't engage with those who decide to descend and explain to us how evil we are - just ignore, report any personal attacks or goady behaviour and let them get bored and bugger off... talk about rude shaped vegetables or soup recipes or something for a couple of pages usually does it.

Still more fun ones. I actually don't dislike JM, but the presentation, the music, just awful. I was particularly surprised by the music tbh.

I've never seen Joe Wicks but my sister said he's very annoying.
