Handhold DH heading to ICU covid

DH went to hospital yesterday for breathing issues. We’ve been unwell for a few days and we’re already awaiting covid tests.

Just been told he’s taken a turn and is heading to ICU. He is ECV and we’ve been so careful, we’ve not been out except to the supermarket, and we’ve avoided seeing anyone.

I’m just so worried and I know the next few days will be critical

I'm sorry he isn't doing so well. Hopefully tomorrow will bring better news.

CaramelCup · 03/01/2021 22:22

Sorry to hear things aren’t improving yet. I just came on to say I hope you get a good nights sleep l.. and also that your DC are able to concentrate on doing some work tomorrow. But don’t worry if they don’t manage it all. 🤞🏼 You get some good news soon x

Saz12 · 03/01/2021 22:27

OP, keep going, you’re doing great. Hope you manage to get some sleep tonight, for better news tomoarrow.

The children don't have to be up for school tomorrow. But if you want some normalcy for them, then get them to log in/set it up.
Ventilation can be positive as it gives a person a rest. And whilst initially, there were poor results associated with it, they wouldn't suggest it unless, on balance it would be the best option. That way they would be able to get oxygen levels back into 100%. Yes, it carries the risk of chest infection the longer you are on it, but a short spell on it might be what's needed. I appreciate the fear though OP.

If you can, download the calm app and listen to some sleep stories during the night. I find the long train journeys the best. I ever make it as far as the buffet car before I'm asleep. Fingers crossed for better news tomorrow. Recovery is never linear though. Even if things improve tomorrow, he could still face a detour/step backwards then another step forwards etc. It is likely to be an up and down experience. But hopefully with a big up at the end.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 03/01/2021 23:29

Sorry it's not better news today.. I've everything crossed that his SAT's pick up overnight Thanks

Wardrobes123 · 03/01/2021 23:35

I hate the ICU journey. It’s always one step forward two steps back. I can’t settle at all.

@Fandaddydoozie - thanks for the calm app suggestion I’ll have to give that a go. Last night was podcasts but they feel very jubilant and it just a bit jarring.

In terms of school the younger one is very keen. She’s very driven and won’t want to fall behind, but I’m going to email the school later just to give them a heads up.

The older one would look for an excuse to get out of work and if possible I’d rather we pushed on as he’ll only let it all back up (lazy teenager!).

I will also call the GP for some beta blockers tomorrow. I had to have them last time DH was seriously ill as it really makes me anxious. I think that’s understandable? Or maybe I’m just a bit crap at dealing with the life and death stuff.

FlowersFlowersFlowers to everyone whose held my (virtual) hand and wished DH well.

Let’s hope tomorrow is a better day. I’ll probably be lurking these boards all night now! Avoiding covid denying topics I thinkGrin

I’m sorry, that isn’t the update we wanted :( I reckon send the school a quick email now and then turn all the alarm clocks off so if you do have a bad night, you can sleep in a bit and just get the kids to log in when you’re all up and feeling ready tomorrow.

And good call on the beta blockers. Just get through x

Hollywolly1 · 04/01/2021 00:17

I am still thinking of youFlowers

QueenPawPaws · 04/01/2021 00:20

@Wardrobes123 second the calm app stories. Sometimes I have them on so quietly you can just hear murmuring. Or if I can't sleep I turn it up and listen to the stories which is relaxing anyway Thanks

Butterymuffin · 04/01/2021 00:34

Thinking of you and your husband OP. You're so right about the forward and back nature of it. We like to think recovery is a nice steady upward line but it's often more twisty. Definitely ask for the beta blockers. Flowers
Headspace have a few of their sleepcasts online as freebies - try those if you don't have a subscription.

CanWeHaveSnow · 04/01/2021 00:41

Is an Oxygen hood an option?

Florencemattell · 04/01/2021 00:41

Hope you read this in the morning OP and can get some much needed sleep. Hoping that your husband has a better night too. 🥰

relievedlady · 04/01/2021 00:43

Op I'm sorry to read your update.

I've got anxiety induced insomnia so il be around.

I also read threads like yours and then get frustrated reading people saying not to be so stupid it's only a virus blah blah.

This situation is exactly why the country needs to lockdown again

And before anyone jumps on me yes I'm a working parent with kids of an age I can't leave them at home and yes I would lose money. I've already lost financially since March but when I read threads like yours the finances dont matter.

ThanksThanks

nocoolnamesleft · 04/01/2021 04:11

I can only hope the morning brings better news. Try to hang on in there.

Silkiechickscat · 04/01/2021 04:53

Hope things start to improve and you manage to get some rest.
