Handhold DH heading to ICU covid

DH went to hospital yesterday for breathing issues. We’ve been unwell for a few days and we’re already awaiting covid tests.

Just been told he’s taken a turn and is heading to ICU. He is ECV and we’ve been so careful, we’ve not been out except to the supermarket, and we’ve avoided seeing anyone.

I’m just so worried and I know the next few days will be critical

Slight update - he hasn't been ventilated (yet).

His blood gases (used for measuring the amount of oxygen in his blood), were all over the place and he was placed on the largest amount of oxygen via CPAP. This is when the consultants were concerned about him needing to be ventilated. I had a very scary text last night from him saying he couldn't breathe and expect the call about ventilation.

and then nothing. I called the hospital at 4am and the nurse informed me that they've changed some settings to try and reduce the oxygen down but that he was stable.

He is also having problems with covid related clotting. This is causing problems with kidney filtration and kidney function.

So all in all not terrible. I am really not coping well today though - which is why I've only posted now. I also feel quite rotten, so am hoping for an improvement after some sleep tonight (if I can).

I’m not surprised you feel rotten, your anxiety must be through the roof.

Thinking of you, please be kind to yourself and just rest. You mentioned earlier you've got work stuff to do - can you not delegate or speak to a boss about time off? Sounds like you're ill yourself and I bet any GP would sign you off with that or anxiety and stress right now, its completely understandable.

Sorry to hear that you are feeling so unwell and exhausted and that things are so up in the air, which is to be expected really. It's still so uncertain for you and your children. Food, drink,sleep. That's all that you can do right now.

Everything crossed here that your DH doesn’t need to be ventilated and starts to really pick up soon, and that you also start to feel much better.

So annoying to have caught it when you have been so careful.
