Handhold DH heading to ICU covid

DH went to hospital yesterday for breathing issues. We’ve been unwell for a few days and we’re already awaiting covid tests.

Just been told he’s taken a turn and is heading to ICU. He is ECV and we’ve been so careful, we’ve not been out except to the supermarket, and we’ve avoided seeing anyone.

I’m just so worried and I know the next few days will be critical

The fact that he's doing ok on slightly less oxygen is very positive although I understand how slowly it must feel for you living through every moment whilst feeling unwell yourself
Thinking of you and your DH and however " samey" you feel the updates are, please do keep posting if it helpsThanks

MrsPerfect12 · 06/01/2021 13:15

Sounds positive to me! Hope you're taking care of yourself too. Flowers

Egghead68 · 06/01/2021 13:31

Glad there has been a little improvement. Look after yourself if you can.

Seems good progress. Flowers.

I randomly read the other day that cheap head lice tablets was shown to help. So strange what is out there.

We have a tentatively positive update! So DH is now day 11 in his battle with this bastard virus. He hasn’t got any worse so the main consultant had a chat with him about how they will be less worried about a further deterioration now. They’re going to try mixing CPAP with high flow, to wean his oxygen needs down. They are surprised they didn’t have to ventilate him.

He is very battered and bruised - they tried to give him some blood due to him losing a lot on a failed dialysis filtration circuit. The vein blew and his arm is very painful.

He will remain in ICU for a while still, but this is GOOD.

Meanwhile I’ve made more steps forward in recovering - no more headaches or nausea but I have no energy at all. I feel very tired even going up and down the stairs and cooking and cleaning makes me need a lie down.

It’s been a very long week (understatement) but I’m hoping that we continue to make progress forward.

And to get slightly preachy for a second, please stay safe. This has been so horrible and I’d hate for another family to go through it. For the last 9 months we have avoided supermarkets, friends and family, worn masks and hand gel every time we go out. And we still caught it. Please stay safe everyone Flowers

Ah op this is such a delight to read that he is doing well! I wish you and your family all the best in recovering, and I hope your dh continues to improve and is home as soon as he can be.

Make sure you keep looking after yourself and keep your strength up

mogloveseggs · 07/01/2021 19:19

Very glad to hear that Flowers

Sexnotgender · 07/01/2021 19:20

That’s very encouraging. I hope he continues to improve Flowers

OlgaDePolga · 07/01/2021 19:57

@Wardrobes123 that's a positive update... not kept up with the full thread but you have been in my thoughts the last couple of days.
Here's hoping for further progress tomorrow

SunshineCake · 07/01/2021 20:28

So happy to hear a more positive update.

Please look after yourself more than you are. Dh had a heart attack and I spent six weeks doing absolutely everything. We have three kids and several pets. I then spent two weeks in bed, with covid, and wonder if I hadn't been so knackered already I might have been able to cope with it better without being in bed and being sent and taken to hospital twice.

Purplethrow · 07/01/2021 20:34

I’m so pleased for you and your family, I don’t think anyone can know the hell of having someone you love in ITU . Going through something similar, dd’s dad was on life support, he survived but has irreparable brain damage.

Friendswithwhenifits · 07/01/2021 20:39

Very glad that he’s getting better.Hopefully everyone is taking the rules seriously now. Rest up and take it easy. Flowers

101namesforme · 07/01/2021 21:02

So pleased to read your latest update OP.
Look after yourself.

Tempnamelady · 07/01/2021 21:32

Really pleased to hear a positive update and glad you feel slightly better too. Prayers being said ongoing for continued improvement.

Some we know who lives locally, in his 60s but very fit albeit with existing health conditions , contracted Covid in the early summer and spent 39 days on a ventilator desperately ill. They were talking about discontinuing treatment - but he suddenly turned a corner and was eventually discharged and is doing great now. Was a lovely positive story and I’m sure it will be the same for your DH X

6demandingchildren · 07/01/2021 21:38

Hope things carry on improving xxx

Trumplosttheelection · 07/01/2021 21:41

Go wardrobes Dh! Sounds like a good day.

Omeara · 07/01/2021 22:09

Great update!

Egghead68 · 07/01/2021 22:44

Pleased to read this positive update. Hope you can get some sleep.

Ken1976 · 08/01/2021 00:06

Hope that your husband is improving. My daughter was on Cpap in ITU of the hospital where she works for 8 days in November. She had her phone and charger and was able to keep in contact with her husband . I was admitted to the same hospital with covid a few days later and once she was off the Cpap and into the high dependency ward , we were able to FaceTime each other. 💐💐🌷for you x
