Handhold DH heading to ICU covid

DH went to hospital yesterday for breathing issues. We’ve been unwell for a few days and we’re already awaiting covid tests.

Just been told he’s taken a turn and is heading to ICU. He is ECV and we’ve been so careful, we’ve not been out except to the supermarket, and we’ve avoided seeing anyone.

I’m just so worried and I know the next few days will be critical

You definitely have the right outlook OP
It is good news that DH is still on CPAP, albeit on high flow
Please be kind to yourself and keep doing the small important things which make a big difference, eating small amounts, drinking and allowing yourself to just be
Hoping your DH turns a corner very soon

HoofWankingSpangleCunt · 05/01/2021 15:37

Glad to hear that you are feeling a bit better. Everything seems so much worse when one is ill.
And I'm pleased to hear your DH is stable. Fingers crossed for you all. X

Fandaddydoozie · 05/01/2021 17:02

Fingers crossed that he remains stable. I've been thinking of you today!!

Fingers crossed for your DH and also for your swift recovery from this awful virus. At the time you should be resting yourself, you're unable to. Please make sure you get some rest and look after yourself as well as your DH Flowers

Egghead68 · 05/01/2021 18:19

Stable is good. Hope you can get some more sleep tonight.

Frazzled2207 · 05/01/2021 18:27

That definitely sounds like good news that he is stable. Hopefully he can start to improve soon.

Sexnotgender · 05/01/2021 19:14

Stable is good! He hasn’t deteriorated, he’s not ventilated and he’s absolutely in the right place. Hopefully he stays stable and starts improving Flowers

Trumplosttheelection · 05/01/2021 19:17

I think we'll take stable! Some patients deteriorate fast so the stability in his condition is defo a positive. As the op knows well, patients with big renal impairment as a chronic condition take a long time to get back from something like this. Patients like the dh here have a much, much longer length of stay both in icu and in hospital. We can't expect quick improvement though if it happens that's great, instead any slow, steady gaining ground is certainly to be celebrated!

Natsku · 05/01/2021 19:25

Stable is positive, I'm glad he's keeping stable and able to stay on CPAP so far

SupportingDoctors · 05/01/2021 19:37

Handhold here too. Your DH’s age is dramatically on his side. Take care of yourself and the children, and the medical staff will care for your DH. Treatment has indeed improved (looking out for clotting, proning, and giving dexamethasone being game changers). It must be so tough not being able to get IRL support. I wish we could all help you more. Flowers

101namesforme · 05/01/2021 20:51

Glad he is stable and you feel you have turned a corner too.

Take care of yourself.

nocoolnamesleft · 05/01/2021 21:37

Fingers crossed for ongoing stability.

ForeverWondering · 05/01/2021 21:45

Handhold here OP, hope he remains stable. Flowers

Tempnamelady · 05/01/2021 22:30

Love and prayers , stable is good .x

Ithinkim · 05/01/2021 22:49

Hoping for improvements for him soon OP, his age is definitely going to be helping him.

Wardrobes123 · 05/01/2021 23:23

@SupportingDoctors - yes they are already aware of the clotting - he's having kidney filtration, so they are aware but don't feel it necessary to treat the clots but it is causing a problem with the filtration process. He was given dexamethasone almost immediately. He's not needed proning as he is still awake and so they are moving him/sitting him out. He has had proning before due to a previous ventilation and he spent 22 out of 24 hours on his front. I think this is also a positive sign.

He does have previous lung damage which is a concern but I'm so pleased to hear that his age will be on his side.

No change, but still stable. I'm hoping to get more sleep.

did anyone hear from @Groovinpeanut? I'm thinking of her too and hope that her DH is doing better.

Handhold from me too 💐
It is good news that he is stable and not intubated.

Wardrobes123 · 06/01/2021 10:35

Morning update - still stable and on a tiny bit less oxygen through CPAP. They won’t say it’s good news, and they are being very cautious but I’m very happy.

Still not sleeping and still very drained, but ticking over. He’s comfortable in ICU and he’s probably likely to stay there for a while. But I do appreciate all the support we’ve had Flowers

Pleased to hear. My dad has been in a similar situation (though not due to covid, was pneumonia) and there were days on end it seemed like there was no change. Then the improvements were ever so slight at first.

Purplethrow · 06/01/2021 10:46

That’s great news and better small improvements than heading in the other direction.
I’m thinking of you Op and all others that are having a shit time xx

Echobelly · 06/01/2021 10:54

Everything crossed for continuous improvement x

Wardrobes123 · 06/01/2021 11:07

@Frazzled2207 I’m so sorry to hear about your dad. I hope he is doing much better now.

Yes ICU is a strange journey. It’s not quick but I’d take slow and steady progress every time. I’m going to keep coming back and posting very boring/samey updates (hopefully).
Until he’s properly out of ICU/out of the danger zone.

@Wardrobes123
this was some time ago. He made a slow but complete recovery. Hope your DH does the same.

101namesforme · 06/01/2021 12:06

So pleased to read your latest update OP. Still thinking of you both.

Fandaddydoozie · 06/01/2021 12:23

It was a long time before the drs dared to use the word, 'turned the corner' when my husband was so unwell, because drs are rightly cautious about the complications that may arise and it's still such early days, but right now your husband is not getting worse at least and that is the main thing to hold onto.
